Time's 'Misconduct Matrix' Lumps Clarence Thomas with Schwarzenegger, Gingrich, and Jefferson

Featured on Time Magazine's Web site is "The Misconduct Matrix."  Subtitled "Not all affairs are created equal," the graphic presents 19 men guilty of - make that allegedly guilty of in some instances- serious sexual misbehavior.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn is listed, as are Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Tiger Woods, John Kennedy and, of course, the president who gave phone sex a bad name, the impeached Bill Clinton.  Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is also included on the matrix.

Sharing the same quadrant (Doghouse, Massively Hypocritical) with Justice Thomas are Arnold Schwarzenegger, who's admitted to fathering a child with a staff member, Newt Gingrich, who's admitted to at least one affair, and Thomas Jefferson, who "reportedly fathered six children with his slave."  Even if Thomas were guilty of what Anita Hill charged, his conduct was not nearly as egregious as the others.  Talking about pubic hair on a Coke can isn't close to adultery or fathering children out of wedlock.

Two decades after Hill's charges, there's still no proof.  It remains a he said, she said situation, even though why Hill followed the supposed sexual harasser from one agency to another, and maintained telephone contact with him for years afterward are reasons to question her story.

Clarence Thomas's alleged behavior doesn't qualify him for inclusion in Time's Misconduct Matrix.  Not when Senators Teddy Kennedy (D-MA) and Chris Dodd (D-CT) didn't qualify for their infamous waitress sandwich.  Or Bill Clinton's alleged assault of Juanita Broaddrick isn't even mentioned.  And what about the late Congressman Gerry Studds's (D-MA) censure for having a sexual relationship with a young male page?  Or former Congressman Mel Reynolds's (D-IL) 12-count conviction of sexual assault with a 16-year-old?  The list could go on.

I suspect that Justice Thomas is included mainly because he's a conservative jurist who actually looks to the Constitution for guidance.  At Time Magazine, which now "partners" with CNN, that's real misbehavior.

The press gets so infatuated

Submitted by ant on Sun, 05/22/2011 - 4:59pm.

The press gets so infatuated and outraged by allegations of someone screwing around in private, but publicly screw the entire country, like O., Pelosi, Rangel, and many more, and the MSM is right there to spin it into glitter and rainbows.

Oh, Democrats screw around? Never heard about Democrats. Probably because they leave the word "Democrat" out of any damning article.

Time magazine's smear job

Submitted by Dr. Ron on Sun, 05/22/2011 - 5:10pm.

Is John Edwards in the matrix??? ...if not, just more double standard...no, make that no standard except to act as a running /attack dog for Dems. Thomas Jefferson and Clarence Thomas indeed!!!...especially as Anita Hill followed Clarence around as he did a lot for this no-talent lawyer and her career. Where is Bobby Kennedy who "shared" Marilyn Monroe with brother Jack???

You have listed the beginning of an endless list of Dems who should be in the matrix but , in the CNN/Time combine are exempt because they are Dems.

And that's where he may be going.

He's going to be somebody's bitch, soon. I hear he's positively suicidal about it. As well he should be.

That's not it....he's worried about the other "stylists" he's going to have. The rearranging his proclivities stylist, for one.

How goes it, Mr. Bates? Long time no see! Glad you are back, I've missed you.

Almost as bad as Fox's..

Submitted by NJRightWinger12 on Sun, 05/22/2011 - 5:28pm.

During some report on misbehaving elected officials -they were doing a pre-story about Ahnold-they posted pics of famous politicians whove dallied around. They posted Schwarzeneggar, Spitzer, JFK, Clinton, and Nixon? What did he do to warrant that? Geez, you think even Fox would know better, but I guess once you start lumping politicians whove done bad things together, they cant help but always put PRES Nixon in the mix! This reminded me of that-was it really necessary to pur CJ Thomas amongst those guys?

GHWB and Nixon

Submitted by CO2Maker on Sun, 05/22/2011 - 6:17pm.

Remember when WaPo or NTY or LaT tried to smear Bush 41 with the story of his liaison in Madrid? That story lasted a week before it flew apart like a cheap model plan in the spin cycle.

And back during Watergate, Nixon was roundly criticized for everything they could think of, including his *lack* of savoir faire around the women. Time or Newseek or one of those magazines ran a story that include a bit about how members of Nixon's guards or residential staff mumbled that they felt they had to show Nixon how to kiss his own wife, he was so repressed and hidebound.

Don't forget Barney Frank!

Submitted by Mary Louise Turner on Mon, 05/23/2011 - 10:59am.

Here's another bad boy the Slime folks conveniently forgot: Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), who was reprimanded by Congress years ago (and still gets elected - the voters in his district are incredibly stupid!) If the sex scandal involves a Democrat, the make believe media become the fire department, but if a Republican is involved, the MBM becomes the arson squad.
