Take Your Olive Branch and Shove It, Democrats
On the eve of a historic midterm election upheaval, President Barack Obama tried to walk back his gratuitous slap at Americans who oppose his radical progressive agenda. "I probably should have used the word 'opponents' instead of 'enemies' to describe political adversaries," Obama admitted Monday. "Probably"?
Here is an ironclad certainty: It's too little too late for the antagonist-in-chief to paper over two years of relentless Democratic incivility and hate toward his domestic "enemies." Voters have spoken: They've had enough. Enough of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner's rhetorical abuse. Enough of his feints at bipartisanship. Whatever the final tally, this week's turnover in Congress is a GOP mandate for legislative pugilism, not peace. Voters have had enough of big government meddlers "getting things done." They are sending fresh blood to the nation's Capitol to get things undone.
Just two short years ago, Obama campaigned as the transcendent unifier. "Young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled, Americans have sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of red states and blue states," he proclaimed. "We have been and always will be the United States of America." It's been an Us vs. Them freefall ever since.
"We don't mind the Republicans joining us," Obama taunted a few weeks ago. "They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back."
"They're counting on young people staying home and union members staying home and black folks staying home," the fear-mongering agent of hope and change jeered on the campaign trail last month.
"You would think they'd be saying thank you," he sneered last April, when millions turned out for the nationwide Tax Day tea party protests.
"I want them just to get out of the way" and "don't do a lot of talking," he scoffed in response to prescient critics of the federal trillion-dollar stimulus boondoggle.
In addition to labeling GOP opponents of his open-borders policies "enemies" who needed to be "punished" by Latino voters, Obama accused them — that is, us — of lacking patriotism. "Those aren't the kinds of folks who represent our core American values," he told viewers of the Spanish-language network Univision.
Democratic leaders have taken their cue from Team Obama's persistent politics of polarization.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called vocal citizens who protested the federal health care takeover bill during the town hall revolts of 2009 "un-American," too. Remember? "These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American," Pelosi and Hoyer blasted in an op-ed piece for USA Today last summer. "Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades."
This from the woman who called for a vengeful government investigation of grassroots opponents of the Ground Zero mosque.
Obama's pal Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida, whom the president hailed as an "outstanding" member of Congress, accused Republicans of wanting elderly people to "die quickly" and of presiding over a "holocaust in America." Vice President Joe Biden hailed Grayson as a "guy who doesn't back away from a fight, and doesn't back down from what he believes in" and told him at a fundraiser: "We owe you one, buddy." No mention of Grayson's smear of a female Federal Reserve adviser as a "K Street whore."
In California, entrenched incumbent jerk Pete Stark derided immigration enforcement activists at a town hall by asking: "Who are you going to kill today?" To an elderly constituent who opposed the health care bill, Stark retorted: "I wouldn't dignify you by peeing on your leg. It wouldn't be worth wasting the urine."
As voters who have been maligned by the ruling majority as stupid, unwashed, racist, selfish and violent headed to the polls Tuesday, Democrats released "talking points" attacking Republican leaders who "are not willing to compromise." But "no compromise" is exactly the message that un-American Americans delivered to Washington this campaign season:
No more compromising deals behind closed doors. No more compromising bailouts in times of manufactured crisis. No more compromising conservative principles for D.C. party elites. No more compromising the American economy for left-wing special interests. No more compromising transparency and ethics for bureaucratic self-preservation.
Let us be clear, in case it hasn't fully sunk into the minds of Obama and the trash-talking Democrats yet: You can take your faux olive branch and shove it. Thank you.

In the first place

It isn't that I don't want to compromise because I'm ornery, or that I hate Democrats, or that I've come up with some strategy that will succeed in future elections.
I just don't think that's why representatives are sent to Congress in the first place. They're sent to vote, not sell their votes.
If a bill comes up that addresses some issue, and I can agree with 50% of it, but the other 50% seems useless or harmful to me, I want my congressman to vote no. I don't want him to sell my district's vote for one half-assed bill so that the other guy will support yet another half-assed bill on some other issue.
The ability to vote no is supposed to motivate high quality bills. If you dilute the no vote by using it as barter, you eliminate the need to write quality legislation that will attract votes on its merits. When "NO" means "offer me more cash," the system loses all of its motivation for writing high quality law. That's why I don't think they should compromise in the first place.
If you want to counter-argue that political vote-swapping is the only way to get things done ... may I refer you to the abysmal quality of the bills that pass using that method? If you don't mind garbage, that's what you'll get.

Improper grammar! You can have a candy bar because you have the ability to possess it. However, permission to take the candy bar is obtained through the word "May", as in "May I have a candy bar?" In some cases, it is clear vote fraud is afoot. Dino Rossi comes to mind. I think Republicans did quite well, but it fell short of the sweep many NBers projected. Of course the results couldn't actually be true in favor of the Democrats, though the results did match poll numbers leading up to election day. I don't receive a single government benefit, and I only stand to gain from a Republican controlled congress whose objective is to lower my taxes. I'm proud to have voted against Fiorina and Whitman, though my choices were limited.
So on to your proof that vote fraud has negatively affected Republicans in this election. Was it the hanging chad?

Liberalism produces the exact opposite of its stated intentions. Obamacare will fulfill this axiom in many ways. Obama has stated that everyone will be covered. In fact, everyone will NOT be covered. Obama says all pre-existing conditions will be covered. We have already seen that some will not be covered. Obama has said it will reduce the Deficit. The CBO has clearly stated it will increase the Deficit. Obama says it will reduce medical costs. Again as a result of CBO projections we see that it will increase costs. et cetera.

No idea. But in the end, I don't really care that much about legalization. When the government gets involved, the quality declines, quantity is limited, and prices go up. I think voters realized in the end, it doesn't look good for California, plus the factor that Holder said he'd shut us down. People who smoke get their pot, regardless of how - legal or not. Had this law passed I'd get mine from the same place tomorrow.
As far as the Senate, House, and Governorship go, we're a liberal state. We just tried a Republican governor and he didn't work out. So it shifts Dem again. Fiorina had no shot. Californians knew what was at stake, and we showed up to support liberalism at its finest.

Yes, BK. Such short-mindedness as calling all pot users "stoners" is equivalent to calling all alcohol consumers "alcoholics." But you know that. Calling us stoners is your way of proclaiming social superiority over us. But we know better.
There is no denying that legalizing marijuana means less arrests, trials, convictions, and incarcerations for possession and distribution. Much of the pot sold in California comes from local growers, and not the cartels as you have stated. And anyone who wants good pot in California knows where to get it...it ain't from the cartels.

I think the the penalties for distribution (depending on the legality and amount) will probably go up. You think tax man is going to let people steal his cheddar?? I remember the crackdown in California on people buying cigarettes on-line. I can only imagine what they will do to people stealing pot tax revenue. I live in California and work in law enforcement. You are obviously speaking from personal experience but "many people" is not a verifiable statistic. Allow me to speak from my own. I have never, in the years I've worked, ever arrested someone solely for having a small amout of pot on them. I may have tacked on the possession after making an arrest for something else, but never just for the pot. Also, I don't know a single guy I've worked with that has. I've probably stomped more pot in to the gutter than I should admit. Too much time and paperwork for such a minor offense. I also did my time in the jail. I'm sure you have the statistics for potheads going to jail (dish 'em) but rarely do I see anyone come to jail for pot only without having a lenghty criminal history, violating probation, or popping on a pee test while on work release. Jails are too crowded and the justice system too full. Basically my point is that guys that go to jail for pot are not just there for personal use issues. It's for selling or for the reasons stated above. They are bad people and belong in jail. Legalizing pot won't have the effect alot of people think it will.Well let me thank you and

I actually didn't mention alcholics, you did. However, I agree that if you knowingly put a harmful substance into your body and there is a strong liklihood that it could cause you or others harm, then intellectually, you're inferior to those who don't on those same grounds.
And if you don't like the term stoner for your level of pot use, which would you prefer? I'm open to your perferred moniker. But, if you're over the age of 25 and still smoking pot on a regular basis, not only are you a stoner in my book, your an immature ass with a Peter Pan complex.
As for your link- Prop 215 made the pot crop in Cali what it is today so I don't think it's all that relavent to my rebuttal of your claim to the effect that Mexican drug cartels have a minor role in the the marijuana industry in your sorry state. The fact that one tunnel was found containing 20 tons of marijuana headed for your State's teenagers and aging hippies clearly indicates that cartels do play a role.
But don't take it personally, you're free to never grow up. I won't hold it against you.

Beer on occasion (once a month, maybe) but not more than 3 at a sitting. I always end up driving -even to things like Raven's games or concerts- since I'm not adverse to staying sober.
My father is an alcoholic, though to my knowledge hasn't had anything to drink since 1986 when he hit bottom and quit. I drank pretty heavily and did a lot of really stupid things involving alcohol and my 67 Camaro as a kid. And I was known to take the long way back to the ship from the bars in Olongapo, PI. (The long way was from one side of the street to the other...)
Then I had a son and that's when I grew up.

I was there pretty often in 71/72 when we would go to Subic for repairs. Were the kids still in boats on the river asking for coins? We would head away from the base going down the left side of the street going from bar to bar, and then turn around and go back down the right side. I think I recall there was a bar called "The Cave" that was one of the few air conditioned places in town. Just about every place that wasn't on the main road was off limits.

The kids in Sh!t River? Yep, there were some, though most of them were just outside the gate selling gum. And of course there were the shoeshine boys and old women beggers.
In '87 our unit found an out-of-the-way bar on a side street to the right after leaving the base and crossing the bridge into the city. It was called the Airport Inn. We even coined a new drink there called JP5 (jet fuel) which had an orangy color to it. Don't remember what was in it though - for some reason...
It was pretty safe there in the late 80's but of course, Viet Nam was long over. We did have to patrol Cubi Point for a couple of days when the NPA got all uppity, but nothing came of it. Olongapo was one of our favorite stops on float since we could off-load our howitzers there and get some field time. A PI trip was usually 3 weeks or so, with 5 days or so of that in the field. It was nice to run 3 miles on dry land rather than around the one helo landing pad of our LSD! Lot of boring laps on the Germantown and Anchorage while at sea!
Boy, I miss those days...

Carol Shea Porter, telling her I was celebrating her loss, and wishing her well in the '99 club. I also explained why I was so happy -- she didn't even try to represent me or New Hampshire in Congress. She voted for Pelosi all the time. In fact, in her very bitter concession speech last night, the only positive words were for her "Party": "I'm very proud of me," Shea-Porter continued. "I'm proud of you and I'm proud of my party. I'm especially proud of my party." Now I ask you -- isn't that kinda weird? She also said this:
"I look at this as a temporary blip. Score one for the corporations." Meaning, of course, she's going to try to regain power. She thinks she only lost because of "special interests" -- not because we all woke up and said "no more".
This ain't over, folks. We pushed a few of them out, but they are dead-set on tearing this country apart at the seams. These are no ordinary democrats. They are socialists, through and through. Angry, dangerous socialists who don't -- and won't -- recognize and abide by American laws and values. I'm as sure of this as I have every been about anything.

Unlike me, a bitter clinger....Ron Klein is a BITTER LOSER.
He didn't even give a concession speech to the victor, LTC Allen West.
Buh-bye Ron....don't forget to kiss Charlie Crist on your way out.

He just eliminated one more of America's enemies.
Yes, NL, I am a happy camper today.

I may not take my West signs down for a bit.
Senator Rubio, Congressman West, Governor Scott, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
For those of you who haven't heard, Pam Bondi was a big win here in Florida. She was running to replace our AG Bill McCollum (who lost the primary to Rick Scott)....he filed, on behalf of Floridians, the lawsuit deemed highly likely to succeed against Obamacare. A democrat AG mightn't have pursued it.
So yes, I am quite pleased with my results.
Debbie Wasserman Shultz represents the south west part of my county. I'd love to see her tossed next, she's a Pelosi doppleganger.

You need to be corrected.

You need to be corrected. After surveying the political dust that has settled from this election, I think you may have one of those titles wrong. As of Jan 20, 2013, I do not think it will be Senator Rubio...

I expect him to replace the current star of that noted reality series, "The White House". Seems the show has been getting crappy ratings lately and I understand the critics have recently panned its leading man.
Kidding aside, NL...

You could be right. Rubio is impressive.

For my money, he is a rock solid Constitutional Originalist, someone who believes in American Exceptionalism. Better, he clearly explains to the people what Conservative principles are and how they are beneficial to everyone. I think he'd make an excellent leader.
I just hope we are not in the throes of a full blown depression by the time we can fully oust these Democrat majorities and replace Obama. The economic data are not looking good and this policy of Quantitative Easement, this is complete BS. It was tried in Japan about 10 years ago and was an unqualified failure. So what do the Dems and their twit bankers do? Emulate a prior failure.
Not only that, NL....

He can articulate his ideas and ideals in complete sentences without a teleprompter, sans five hudred and forty seven "uhs" per para.
Marco is the real deal....as is LTC West.

...so, maybe no more FloriDuhs!?
I'm really disappointed in Massachussetts. How could they possibly send BFrank back to Congress? And re-elect every single other dim in that state? At least NH threw everybody -- and I mean everybody -- out. Except the Gov. But we now have a veto-proof house and senate, so there's gonna be some changes here real quick.

I've waited for a a long time to post this.
America is special. America is not Europe -- and we don't want it to be. I'm not afraid or ashamed to say that America is an exceptional country. History shows that. And we prove it, over and over again.
Most Americans are compassionate, reasonable, generous, innovative, spirited and wise. We know we have to work hard for what we get in this world. We value the Constitution and appreciate the many sacrifices of our military -- we know they work daily to defend our freedoms and protect us. Many of us also have a personal faith that guides us. We are not ashamed to proclaim "In God We Trust." Americans aren't perfect. We make mistakes, but we also rise to the occasion of righting wrongs.
What no presidential administration can do -- what no Congress can do -- is ignore/ridicule the will of honest, hardworking, freedom-loving Americans, without paying a big price. We will stand up and fight back. We will seek justice. Simply put: we'll do what's right.
Usually, humility is in order after success. In this case, the "We told you so" message must be sent -- with a sense of humor, of course.
A government that is supposed to serve the American people should never, ever bet against them...
You thought we'd forget. You thought we'd get distracted. You thought you could weasel your way out of it. You thought we didn't have the strength to endure. You were wrong. We have completed the first (big) step in taking our country back.
This is for all those who played a part in dismissing and mocking the will of the American people:
