On CNN Newsroom today, anchor Kyra Phillips interviewed Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele on the topic of President Obama's healthcare push. Part of the interview:
PHILLIPS: But whether government-run or private, I mean, no one's going to demand that you go one way or another. You're still going to have a choice.
STEELE: We don't -- maybe we do. I don't know. We haven't had that debate. I mean, you're talking about -- you're talking about the possibility of reorienting one-sixth of our economy with legislators who haven't even read the legislation. I mean, are they going to do to health care what they did with cap and trade? Are we going to get amendments at 4 a.m. in the morning and no one reads them? And then only after the Health and Human Services Department has to begin to implement this craziness, we're going to find out exactly what's in the bill?
Steele was exactly correct, of course. No one knows what Obama's healthcare program will ultimately mandate. That's because, like the economic stimulus, Obama left it in the hands of his Democratic comrades in Congress to put something together. There are currently three versions in the House and another two in the Senate. None has been voted on by either the full House or the full Senate.
That didn't prevent Phillips from speaking with certainty on the matter again during the conclusion of the interview:
PHILLIPS: Want to point out, though, we're still talking about the fact that people will have a choice. They won't be told to go one way or the other.
Really, Kyra? How could you possibly know that? Looks like on the subject of ObamaCare, you've bought the Obamaganda. Big time.

July 21, 2009 - 22:53 ET by mattmOr you can either be sick, or you can die. Take your pick.
Once the government is "paying" for it, their role will be to deny care, not provide it. Major "insurance" companies have been getting ready for this for years. A consultant friend of mine told me that a major "insurance" company hired him to help create a computer system which will facilitate the most economically efficient means of running a "healthcare" system which will tell them how to minimize costs by denying care.
One insurance company paid a bonus to one of their employees who saved the company $1.5 mil by denying coverage to a patient (who died soon afterwards) - then the company put up a big statue in front of its HQ - Guess what it cost....yep, $1.5 million.
When the government's in charge, this dysfunction will be systemic.
Choices!
July 21, 2009 - 22:57 ET by blazermaniacAs American's, we have many choices. Choices, like not watching your lousy CNN show. But we have no choice, if this horrible idea of a health care plan, passes.

July 21, 2009 - 21:54 ET by R D HelmYeah, I guess when she looked at the cover and saw, "PRESIDENT OBAMA'S HEALTH CARE REFORM PLAN" in big block letters, her eyes glazed over and she went into some sort of Obama Kool-Aid induced trance.
-Never mind that it isn't even his plan, as he is apparently completely clueless as to what it actually contains.

Most of us ...
July 21, 2009 - 22:53 ET by SentryDanMost of us ("We the People") said "NO!!!" to the stimulus bill. Then we said "NO!!!" to the omnibus spending bill. And next, we said "NO!!!" to the Can and Trade bill. Finally, we are saying "NO!!!" to Obama's healthcare idea.
What doesn't Obama understand about the word "NO!!!"? He can't be that thickheaded, can he? Or maybe he is just plain stupid.
Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.
Also remember folks, that the way to SUPPORT THE TROOPS is to support their mission. Anyone who says that they support the troops but don't support their mission is lying about supporting the troops. And if you want to know, yes I do have a dog in the fight, he is a United States Marine.
The After-Comment = rhetorical cowardice
July 21, 2009 - 23:37 ET by KC MulvilleYeah, this tactic drives me crazy. The "after-comment" is when the news person contradicts the guest, but only when the guest has no chance to respond. The host adds a rebuttal while transitioning to another segment, or to another guest. Stephanopoulos does it several times every show.
The after-comment, and similar tactics, are just rhetorical cowardice. It condemns what the guest said, without explanation, but without giving the guest a chance to defend himself. You may trick some people, but most people realize that if you have to stoop to such tricks, it's because you don't have the firepower to defend the comment on its own.
It's like badly-written courtroom dramas, where a lawyer snidely makes an argumentative comment, but then says, "I withdraw the question," before the opposition can object. In real life, when lawyers do that, a good judge slams them in front of the jury, and fines them for misconduct. The rule is simple: if you aren't willing to defend what you say, don't say it.
It's a cheat. It's cowardice, because you try to sneak the comment in without defending it.

Obamacare Bill
July 22, 2009 - 07:34 ET by ricklailObama has admitted that he does not know what is in the bill. How can this woman say we'll have choices? The bills are still being marked up with admendments. There is no bill in print to look at. All we know is what the Dem propaganda machine is putting out or what little the Rep on the committees are telling us.
Anyway this thing is going to put together, rushed to the floor and we will never see it in print until it is too late just like they did the "cap and trade." The thing about Hillarycare was there was something writting that we could read and debate.
Even here in the state of NC that has the worst legislature we can read any bill that has been filed. It may not look the same after it goes through the committees but at least we have something to read.

July 22, 2009 - 10:17 ET by jessieHI have never had healthcare. If obamacare passes, I will be forced to buy it or face a fine. Just like car insurance, the cops will ask for your license, registration, auto insurance, and your obamacare card. And just like when they made it mandatory to have auto insurance, the prices will double. The sooner the govt. gets out of our lives, the better off WE'll be.
