You've probably noticed, but we've made the official transition over to our new, Disqus-powered comments on our blog postings. Please use this thread to ask any questions you still have about the switchover. I will be keeping an eye on it today and answering your inquiries.

Note: To make things easier, this blog post will allow for commenting by registered users of the old comment system.

There is no indicator of thread activity. Is there something I can set to show when new comments have been added?

We're going to have something that will look like this:
I was thinking of putting it in a little dropdown box that appears when you click a menu item in our orange bar at the top which would be labeled "Discussion."

Not to worry, Blonde, I looked it up for you. Your profile track section only shows 115 pages of posts. At around 25 posts per page, that's only around 2800 posts, or around 430 posts a year. That's not much more than one post per day. That's not too bad. It's pretty much on par as everyone else, I would say.

I'm still against the idea of disqus because of all the trolling going on, seems like the flood gates have been opened on that by using that.  That's when I can see the disqus stuff at work on my PC versus the mobile devices.

How will it work with some kind of real control over that, especially given the "flag" part of disqus being potentially abused by the libnuts that come in out of the wood work?

I had set up to use it, but since the mobile device issue came up, I haven't had the desire to touch it, so I might need some assistance with it or something to start using it.

DISQUS is fully locking me out, to replying, to trolls (Winning The Future)  why on earth do trolls, get the last STINKING comment?!?)..

So complaint so Squishy PC Disqus....I can post 2,000 comments down thread if I wish.

Now I get pop up windows, before posting.... Are you having problems with formatting.....NO Are you finding difficulty in linking ....NO

ANOTHER ONE I CANT REPLY TO CAJUN-2 COMMENT.....Hey ups...When conservatives here at NB see vile, vulgar, and insulting posts, we flag. When liberals see facts and truth they cannot dispute, they flag. Be proud, you spoke troof!

Read more: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/kyle-drennen/2012/07/18/wapos-chris-cillizz...

However you can not reply, to the person that had the last comment...Looks like a troll gaming disqus...Troll posts crap, commenting to your post, then flags you... then the reply button is non-functioning. Disqus still gets the volume numbers, because you can still post, a thousand comments down the thread.

Submitted by Radical1979 on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 6:04pm.

Yet we all try to make sense of it by blaming someone or something. Guns, movies, the Tea Party, OWS, mental illness. Anything so that we can tell ourselves that there was some fault we can blame and some corrective action we can take. That way it won't happen to us or our loved ones.

Right now it appears it was the fault of one man and a horrific chemical imbalance in his brain. Not very comforting in terms of preventing it from happening again.

I read earlier today about a young lady who was present at a shooting incident recently at a Toronto mall which claimed several victims [although I believe only one death] and she had posted or tweeted extensively and poignantly afterwards about the fragility of life...and then last night she was also a survivor of the horrific slaughter in Aurora!

Reminiscent of the woman who survived both the sinking of the Titanic and later the sinking of one of Titanic's sister ships during WWI.

sorry Jer*

Submitted by cajun2 on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 7:03pm.

Jessica Ghawi, an aspiring sports writer, was indeed at the Toronto mall shooting and survived. Unfortunately, her angel was not prepared for the shooting in Colo. She is one of the fatalities.

A young couple from this area are on their honeymoon in Colo. They were in the theatre last night. Word is they are both uninjured.

Like 9-11, events like this touch all of us in some way. Instead of focusing on political agendas taking precedence, we all should be praying for the families of the dead and the injured. Thanking the Lord for our own blessings and all the things we share or have in common. When the next act of insanity or terrorism occurs, hopefully we will draw together again.

Wonder how atheists deal with this kind of thing?

Cajun2, The weirdest thing

Submitted by Liberallies on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 7:14pm.

Cajun2,

The weirdest thing is that Jessica Ghawi wrote from her phone last night, while she was in the theater waiting to see Batman, that she was having the same sick feeling in her stomach as she felt in Eaton Mall in Canada while she witnessed the shooting there. Minutes after she wrote this, she was murdered. I have zero doubt that she felt the presence of pure evil, Satan.

We must pray today. No bickering, no fighting, no agendas, nothing about gun control or 2nd Amendment. Just pray. This nation's soul is in trouble. All day long I have been thinking of this horror. How fragile our lifes are and how many individuals waste their life and don't live it to the fullest.

Pray that God May Have Mercy on all of us and that we all have peaceful deaths worthy of sons/daughters of God. But we must especially pray for all those who died, are currently suffereing in the hospital and the loved ones who have been left behind to mourn the murdered.

I have been reading the local Colo news outlets. They are generally without politics. The one thing they are reporting is the police are still trying to id some of the victims. Until they have those and the injured properly ID'd, they are not releasing any names or confirmations. Let the families know first before the media sounds very compassionate to me...Lets not mention any names, even the one's we may know until the authorities have done their job.

I"ve been wondering why I

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 12:37pm.

I"ve been wondering why I couldn't comment on some of the threads that intererested me in the past 2-3 days - I thought it was because I'd been sick and wasn't doing something right, or my computer wasn't working correctly, or that NB was having some kind of problem displaying 100% of their activity......................but I guess it was because the 'comments' section (old style) was being phased out, or something like that.

As long as there is the standard way of commenting, I'm gonna be around...................as for this Disquetech thing, color me gone. I can go on Yahoo and get the same result, with a lot of the same useless comments. I enjoy NB because it seems to me that the intelligence and quality of the majority of posters was way above what I see on most other commentating sites, and I've had a great time in my tenure here, and learned a lot of things, and met some great people.

That's what drew me to this place, there were a lot more intelligent people here than a lot of these other sites that I've checked out and I kept thinking "finally, like-minded people that I can relate to" instead of all these knee-jerk liberal reactionaries that we are seeing in disqus.

I explored this place for a long time before deciding to join up, and here we are today.

I really wish the admins wouldn't do the disqus route, but hey, I don't own this site, I'm just privileged to be here.

A lot of the libtrolls I'm seeing on disqus make me not want to be on it, it's like an influx of madness that won't go away.

I dunno.  Time will tell, I guess.

Biggest worry right now is what will happen coming up to the election, if we even have it.

Yeah, Jon-E-Boy, I read NB,

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 1:24pm.

Yeah, Jon-E-Boy, I read NB, and others, for some time before I ever decided to enter the fray myself. My reasons were a little more practical - I only learned how to use a computer about 4 years ago, so I wasn't particularly savvy about that end of it. As far as my own thinking went - I wasn't worried about it too much, but I wanted to find a place where I might be able to have some interaction with others who wouldn't write me off as some kind of a complete whack-job..................and even when I came onto NB, I got the 'new kid in town' treatment from a few selected people - and probably as a result of my own animated mindset, my 'unusual' writing style, and the fact that I've believed in where I'm coming from for a helluva lot longer than just last week - and combined with the fact that there are some 'hard-asses' here on NB also - who possess a little bit more than a touch of xenophobia. But, hey, it all worked out OK..................and I've had a great time.

I still will be looking at the subject matter and the stories - that is the main reason that NB is successful, I think - because they bring what Paul Harvey used to say (with a lilt in his voice) - 'the REST of the story'!!! And I'll check out the comments to see if there is anything funny or interesting or informative.............which is what I was doing before I joined the site. But I'll probably be getting a lot more other things done around my house and in my life too!!! Hahahahahahaa!!!

Yeah - I thought the last election was the most crucial in my own lifetime - much less the country's.........................and given the results and residue of the last election, I'd have to say that this upcoming one is THE most crucial X 1000000000!!!! We're staring at the end of the USA, as we knew it.........................and even though it's been raped, plundered, pillaged, chiseled away, slapped around, beaten up, ripped-off, taken advantage of, extorted, scammed, and sodomized from WITHIN for many many years - it's still managed to keep itself moving forward and staying respectable.........................but there is a limit that can be reached, and I think we've just about run into that limit anymore.

I finally got the disqus part working at least on the PC, so I'll use it when I have time to at work.  At the moment, I signed on from home just to get it going.  Just do like a lot of people say, create a bogus account and let it go.

One thing's for damn sure, I will not respond to anything via disqus on any other site.  I still plan to get a tablet/iPad device soon, so using the PC at home will be come less and less frequent, hopefully the PTB here will have resolved that issue.

Believe me, I understand the desire not to want to do it, but if you do it right, it ain't so bad.

I just don't trust the people responsible for disqus, I fear there might be some foul play as we get closer to November, trust libs to do that.  So we'll see.

One suggestion, Mr Sheffield, should that happen, please keep the old system around just in case, the way things are going, you never know.  There are plenty of reasons to be worried down the road.

Me, 'scream'......GG????

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 10:44pm.

Me, 'scream'......GG???? ME??? Hey, I've said this before - I try to write just the say I talk - you've got to let your eyes become your ears when you're reading my idiocy!!! Then it becomes a little more animated and interesting than just some flat, boring words on a screen. I've mentioned this before - I'm related to Mark Twain on my father's side............hell, my Dad LOOKED a lot like ol' Uncle Samuel!!!

Anyway, I'm flattered by any comments in my favor - they counteract any comments I've recieved in my DIS-favor!!!!! I'm gonna get myself back to health, after almost a week of some serious flu that put my on my ass for a number of days, and then I'll see about re-joining NB, if it's not too much of a hassle. I think some of my 'pals' might need to give me some tips - yuo all know what a dummy I am.

I'm even going to miss KORE tomorrow - there is no way that I can go down there, in the weak and meager condition that I'm in, and play and sing and be an 'uptime guy' for 3-4 hours - because it takes genuine dedication and positive committment, plus - I'm still hacking and sniffing, and my head still feels like it's still in a vise. And you KNOW how much I love doing that KORE thing!!

Like I said - I enjoy NB for the subject matter and the direction, and I 'know' a lot of people here allready who I have high respect and regard for, and I have learned a lot of things that I otherwise wouldn't have been exposed to - especially living over here in the boonies of Asia/Hawaii. And I enjoy the myriad of various personalities that I have met here - I love it when I can get the jist of a person's personality by they way they think and they way they write.

Hold down the fort, boyz and gurlz (ah, I LOVE the NB gurlz!!!! - MY kinda gurlz!!! Even Ms. Caj, who continues to threaten to beat me with her nightstick!!!)....................and if anyone's got any easy tips for that dumb-ass blue-collar country-boy Killa, clue me in on my PM or my email or here on the thread - as of right now, I don't think there are any more 'extinct' comment threads in the traditional style.

As in - you've 'foxed yourself up' all girlie and pretty and sweet-smellin' (Obamaspeak), but you're still clickin' that nightstick on the sides of your patent leather spike high heels!!! And we both know that the pointed toes are made from sharpened sterling silver, and the heels have stainless steel spikes embedded in them!! And, HEY - I DID go to work yesterday and today, and managed to get through the day, although there was nothing fun about it!!! And I am pretty morose about missing KORE tomorrow - but I just can't imagine tryin' to pull it off, and also exposing any remnants of my conditions to anyone else. Hell, even when I was flat on my ass this week, I was a lot more fortunate than those people that come down there for their day of fun and relaxation - so I've got a lot of nerve to complain about it, huh???

You are NOT dumb. I am much more of a computer airhead. I've asked several people the same questions over and over about this Disqus thing (poor BK, poor UpNorth) because when it comes right down to it, I'm not at all sure it's going to work for me and I tend to very cautious on things like this. I have my reasons, like everyone else dragging their feet.

But I also feel like I just can't abandon my NB pals, and I would really miss it. So I am honestly going to try something out that more cells in my body scream noooooooo than okie dokie! ;) Some things I really go with the flow with/am laid back about, and some things I'm not. Probably half the NBers who have read any of my posts on this think I am making waaay too much out of this, and the other half probably get my reservations.

As for you, just get better. And I will hope it works out for you to stay here, if you are comfortable. You add personality to the site! And you really would be missed. :(

Being a techno dummy, I was one of the first to whine about the change. After trying it out at DC for awhile, I brought my learnin' to NB and it aint so bad. What concerns me is so many of our NB regulars are going to fade to the netherworld and NB will then be overun with the trolls.

Come on guys. Whatever happened to STAND YOUR GROUND!

If an old lady like caj can do it, I know you can do it. It took me 4 months to figure it out so I must thank ScubaDude, Bkeyser, Blonde, and a few other NB experts. I could never fight Obamabots all on my own so I am re-training with new weapons...;-)

Come on, you Anti-Disqus peeps....

Submitted by Blonde on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 2:00pm.

Cajun is right. We need to stand our ground and shoot back (politely and without vulgarity) at the DNC talking points.

Plus (I know, I'm the glass half full lady)....go read some of the comments on the ABC/Shooter is a Tea Partier threads.

There are a whole BUNCH of new conservatives posting in Disqus, who maybe never bothered to sign up here. And actually, the liberals we are getting on non-Drudge threads are pretty funny (stupid, but funny). But I'm enjoying some of the "new" conservies on the board.

The only down-side (for us, as the "NB community"....or clique as the jealous dude posted) is that when there is a linked-to-Drudge article, the floodgates open and the nasty trolls flood through the door. Fortunately, we have a "flag" and those can be dealt with as they deserve to be. As for the Volt drivers....I just let them blabber on, no one reads that nonsense anyway.

All good things come to an end, and the old NB was totally unique. But the database format and server maintance has to have been an iron clad b***** to maintain (thank you Matt). Plus, in this day and age, clicks = revenue. And this is no doubt an expensive site to maintain.

Okay, I'll climb down off the horse now (wish it was Anne's dressage horse, but I probably would confuse the poor beast as a dressage horse is to a regular horse as a Formula 1 car is to a Volkswagon).

Until the thing about droid devices being forced to redirect to the mobile site with no option to get to the full website gets fixed, I can't really use it and I'm trying to stay off my PC at home unless I'm playing a game or something which is less and less frequent.

I'm still in the market for getting a tablet, not really keen on the idea of using an iPad, but that's in the plans to move away from the desk at home because it's too much like being at work.  If I get an iPad, that'll take care of one thing, but am interested in the droid tablets so I'm still trying to decide which one to get.(too many pros and cons to either one)  I saw what someone said about the Kindle and I almost got one of those once.

So that's where I stand on this.

Submitted by Jer on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 2:14pm.

I reviewed a whole bunch of Disqus comments on various threads yesterday. Most threads had maybe one or two lib posters at the time of my checking and some had none. cajun directed me to the George Lopez thread and, true, there were a fair number of new libs commenting there, but they were overwhelmed by the number of new [and old] conservative commenters blasting away at them.

I don't know how this will all shake out--and I'm not a fan of the changeover--but so far I think this massive lib troll invasion is mostly in your mind. I doubt the overall ratio of conservative to lib posters will change dramatically.

You have nothing to be jealous about over new troll competition.

However, you did disregard the conditional statement of flooding occurring after an article hits Drudge.

Because of your penchant for the minutiae and outlier to prove your point, the count of only 1 Lefty comment in 300 total may merely mean the Lefty slackards have not woken up, finished watching cartoons, or read their subversive web sites yet to leave messages on the forum.

My comment banning philosophy so far.

Submitted by Blonde on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 4:44pm.

Racist comments....delete, ban poster
All curse words except ass, hell and damn....delete ("****", or self-editing, is okay, depending upon the context). I don't think "smart ass" is horrible, but a***h*** doesn't pass muster. If the comment is marginal, I'll edit it and leave a "watch your language, please" post.
Threats.....delete & ban
Repeated name calling....delete and ban
Disgusting screen names (FU**wordswords)....ban and delete

I try to view the comments in context, and that comment re: Brian Ross was immediately shot down (*ahem*) by a long time NBer...so I let it stand. I usually let STOOPID (Dave's word) stand on its own.

There is an option for "approve all comments by a poster"....so I've been trying to flag all of our known quantities (including you and balboa, you might be interested to learn).....so that if we get a Kos invasion, they won't be able to flag comments which are offensive only to the leftist fever brain. However, I still will be happy to delete comments which are offensive (foul language) by "trusted posters".....which is why I've posted several times to "govern yourselves accordingly".

So far, I'd say the deleted comments have been about 70/30 liberal/conservie. But the liberal comments are about 1,000% more vulgar in tone.

Trust me, the ban hammer is a double edged sword. There are many comments that give me a huge amount of personal heartburn, but which do not violate the terms of service here.

Having said all that, I still don't read any of the usual bickering between you all. It bores me to death.

One more thing, strat..

Submitted by Jer on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 4:21pm.

Having now pored over dozens of "Obamacare" blogs and numerous comments posted by me on the topic I can state with certainty that I have NEVER--neither in the original forum nor at any time since--claimed health care is a "right". [I did, however, repeatedly express my support for tort reform and limitations on medical malpractice verdicts, and praise your valuable input on healthcare matters.] Your flat contention that I had done so was sheer fabrication employed to make good on your assurances of linking [absurdly, as it turned out] the issue with McCarthyism; and then to use me as a 'whipping boy' to lash with your rage and despair. Shame on you.

And, for the record, whether or not it is a "right" is academic. [In the nearly 200 page SC decision, that issue isn't even addressed by the majority or the dissent.]

You Didn't Print It Out, Haven't Found It Yet, Or Forgot?

Submitted by stratman on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 9:21pm.

No, Jer.  I asked you point blank and you answered you believed health care is a Right.  Are you also claiming you did not tell me your story about a friend financially devastated due to medical bills?

I'll post additional remarks later on.

- Jer  7/16/2012

Is this your idea of keeping your word, Jer, four days later repeating yourself on a different thread?  Why didn't you post this reply in the appropriate McCarthy thread? Posting smacks of attention-seeking behavior - more readers on this fresh thread to witness you beating your breast and garner sympathy.

It matters not whether the SC addressed the issue of a specific Right for our discussion. Would there be a requirement of standing in order to argue my points before the SC?  Who thought any of the Justices would argue the "penalty" was a tax and not a tax simultaneously.  No one else on either side even argued it a tax besides Roberts.  Regardless, your lame diversion failure is duly noted and recognized as another thread bare tactic of yours.

No matter your memory, or lack thereof, your support of ObamCare is an assault on my liberty.  For this, shame on you, Jer.

Justify how your support of ObamaCare does note endorse infringing on my liberty and confiscating the fruits of my labor as discussed on the McCarthy thread, whether or not you deny health care is a Right.  Be a mensch and post on the McCarthy thread where it belongs.

None of the above.

Submitted by Jer on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 11:09pm.

.No, Jer. I asked you point blank and you answered you believed health care is a Right.

Please stop lying, strat.  At the conclusion of a series of exchanges, you did ask me the question point blank.  I did not answer, however, due to a.) your stating that you were moving on, and b.) the increasingly hostile tone of your comments.  Instead of engaging in a civil discussion, you resorted to ridiculing me and disparaging my profession.  And despite my continued efforts at reconciling our differences, you really have never let up.  Accusing me of McCarthyism on the other thread was profoundly offensive, but I had decided to just drop it and forego "additional remarks", that is, until your resumption of gratuitous taunting on this thread [troll competition?] prompted a reconsideration.

Are you also claiming you did not tell me your story about a friend financially devastated due to medical bills?

No.  I did tell you that story.  It was my friend's father, however.

Posting smacks of attention-seeking behavior - more readers on this fresh thread to witness you beating your breast and garner sympathy.

Classic projection.  Attention-seeking behavior has been your gig--on this thread and numerous other threads ever since you decided to sever our once-friendly relationship a year and a half ago. [Even advising posters not to be deceived by my smiley or winking emoticons which, according to you, were only intended to disarm my victims.]  And as far as garnering sympathy, do you really think I'm going to be the recipient of it to any great degree at this website given the respective ideological considerations?  Please.

If I post anything further about this matter, it will be on the McCarthy thread.

edit.  I take it back.  One more comment:  Does the following look like it was posted by a strong Obamacare supporter?

In the past few days some articles have had provisions for Disqus-powered comments only, there were provisions for traditional comments. (I was not keeping track of when this happened, but I have the impression that it happened more than once).

There was an article in your NB Videos section for which there were no provisions for either Disqus-powered comments or traditional comments. There article was in some way about Palin, but I cannot trace to it now.

Adios

Submitted by Clyde Gatton on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 11:11pm.

Sorry to hear this Matt.

While I don't post often, mostly because I'm not a drive by poster and try to shun agreeing for the sake of agreeing, I do follow the articles and read the comments daily - well almost daily. Since you announced the impending change over, I have monitored sporadically the Disqus garbage, and feel my initial assessment of the change was correct - it's a foolish mistake. Anything that ties in to the social media blather is wrong on many levels; so many I won't even go there. Whether the original MySpace, or the current Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn or whatever, They are an IT disaster, a family destroyer, a mediocrity enabler, and an all around insult to rational thought.

If you think otherwise, then you are blind and deaf.

I'll miss a lot of the comments I joined here to see, as well as a lot of people, some of whom I agreed with, others with whom a cheerfully disagreed, since I won't register with Disqus, nor will I wade through the morass of throwaway crap that it generates.. However, you have taken the easy road, and listened to people whose main desire was to take your money and do as little as possible, rather than actually provide you with the tools to keep NewsBusters unique and well functioning. As a web programmer who still codes from scratch, and that includes database management and BBS (comment) systems, there were other options. The programmers who told you otherwise lied to you, plain and simple.

When I first started coding for a living, the first thing I discovered was that IT departments and professionals routinely lie to their bosses, because what they do is typically so arcane that they cannot be called on their delays and missdirections. Since I see you are listed as president of an internet marketing and design firm, Matt, I cannot help but wonder what your path was. Best of luck, regardless.

Be well all, and enjoy...don't let the fools in Disqus get you down...I'll think about y'all occasionally.

Blonde, it's been great...take care, and may we meet in DC for a party next January.

*sigh*

Submitted by Mr. Bishop on Sat, 07/21/2012 - 4:07pm.

This is a very interesting thing for me to read really...

The reasoning is multi-fold. For one, as many know, the Clydester (as it were) is my father. I can literally say I have known him all my life (depressing as that might be at times). Thus, knowing that he will not be responding any longer to this, is somewhat depressing as it was nice being able to jab at him in a public forum at times.

For another, while he codes in various web languages, it was I who ultimately got him hooked on it. Like him, I code from scratch, and do so in a varied amount of venues, including PHP and MySQL. Unlike him, however, I like the availability of various bases that allow me to code faster (Codeigniter for example). Thus, he and I differ from that.

On the other hand, I am totally in agreeance in one specific area, and that is social media is getting entirely too large, too fast. While I have a Facebook account, I am gradually stopping my use of it since it is beginning to become a pain to me. I have recently had to delete my daughter's account because of the amount of people out there, that are trying to (essentially) coax a 13-year old girl into things she should not be doing. While she makes the decisions, she is being helped to make those decisions by people who don't care for her well being, as well as those claiming to be someone they are not. So, the spread of Facebook, has become the bane of my existance, and an even easier playground for pedophiles who wanted an easier hunting grounds then chat rooms or stalking schools.

The bottom line, is that while I agree in that regard, I disagree in leaving. I agree that Disqus is not the best way to go, but I would much rather deal with that, then not have a voice at all. Thus, I hope that he will eventually change his mind on this (I'll leave it up to everyone reading to decide which "he" I am referring to). Until then... talk to you later pops!

d1carter-

My observation is that a small number of posters have driven many other posters away. As a matter of fact, I just popped in for the first time in about four weeks. Some of those posters who left can be found at a few sites and that is where I spend my time. Lebowski has his own site as do a few others.

This small group reminds me of the old scorpion/frog fable.

I also, when communicating with bygone members, I refer to them as the Jer fan club. Though they may challenge and argue with him, he has been an active fixture here. I have seen this group jump all over Bigtimer, misterbill, ( a special very old friend of mine), and a few others.

It became particularly virulent when , I have forgotten her name now, joined and came down hard on BT for a "racial" slight against another member.

Enough of that. I will just say that I believe that this small group will finally kill all interest in the site.

It's sad because there are, still, a number of excellent posters here and the NB staff is top notch.

See you on the other side.

milo, tell misterbill Jer says "hi" and that he may be comforted

Submitted by Jer on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 3:18am.

to learn my fan club has been hard hit by a number of defections since he last posted at NB. In fact, the annual convention this August will be held inside of a phone booth near Akron, Ohio. [It's a bit congested but the price was right..and we can keep any change still lying around from the era when such edifices were actually used for phone calls.]

NOBODY drove misterbill away. I and others pleaded with him to stay. He and I had been involved in a dust up over his claim that Hitler had demonstrated courage during his final days. I disagreed, and two or three commenters endorsed my position. misterbill misconstrued that support for my argument to be a rejection of him personally.

Around this time misterbill and I exchanged PMs.  I must tell you that his heart-wrenching, emotional, and painfully detailed account of the life-altering, almost incomprehensible challenges he and his family had faced over the years was impossible for me to read without choking back tears. Over the next couple of days I composed a very lengthy reply only to discover upon attempting to send it that he had disabled further PM communications.

misterbill has rarely posted since.  On a couple of occasions he made brief appearances for the sole purpose of taking a shot at me and then just as quickly fade away.  I wanted so much to have an opportunity to smooth things over and hopefully convince him to resume regular posting, but I guess his negative opinion of me was and is unshakeable.  If so, I truly regret it.  I wish him well.  I wish he were here.

weekend thread and consequently was unaware of your question until checking on it a few minutes ago after seeing your above post. It appears that Cool Arrow had already responded on behalf of the resident libs [who, by the way, are fewer in number than at any time in my five years at this website, the others having been banned, chased off, or made to feel like intruders despite Noel Sheppard's assurances that contrarian opinion and liberal viewpoints were welcome at NewsBusters. They are not. The Tenebrous Injuction: All liberals, just LEAVE!...appears to have prevailed.]

Cool Arrow summarized the liberal "vision" essentially as follows:

1. To invest themselves with a sense of moral superiority via the enslavement of spineless freeloaders

2. To target and steal from the financially successful in order to maintain the allegiance and obeisance of the unproductive servant class

3. To revel in their exalted status as a more highly evolved species than those whom they both enslave and exterminate

That is of course a malignant slander, enormously divisive and deeply offensive. Unfortunately it is an opinion which I have found to be shared by many if not most at this website. And if I haven't been able to even slightly dislodge the notion in the past five years, then spending the next five minutes in the endeavor would be a waste of time.

Excuse the interruption,

Submitted by 26CX on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 3:49pm.

but when a liberal says "That is of course a malignant slander, enormously divisive and deeply offensive" that is a clear sign that the statement(s) is true. Bob Beckel often uses that rhetorical tactic to try to throw off people who are getting the better of a discussion, so I suppose it's a staple of liberal discourse.

Given your admission that you haven't been able to change the opinion of most at this website in spite of 5 years of effort, you might consider the possibility that they are right.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Not quite the response expected, Jer

Submitted by creekrat on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 4:46pm.

My questions were sincere, just hoping to get a glimpse inside a dedicated liberal mind.
I have several what I call union lib friends who make no sense at all. Ask them any question and the immediate reply is how they are all the same. Meaning repubs and dems. But the dems are pro union. My immediate next door neighbor has stated several times that he does not care about this country or anything else as long as his union has work.
A recent visit to my attorney revealed a statue of BHO on his shelf. He calls him his chocolate jesus. Smart guy, late sixtys, completely shuts off any ideas not far left, hates the Bush's, loved Clinton and adores Obama. Could answer no question as to why and could not care less about the policys they support. Democrat and liberal is enough. Very strange. At first I thought he was kidding but soon realized he meant every word and was angry at my asking questions and then proceeded to tear me a new one. He had zero interest in anything I believed.
I used to have a good engineer friend, motorhead, boater, fellow yacht club member, former military, ect. Back during the Bush reelection period, his wife directed me to remove him from my contact list, they were tired of my position, and hated Bush for his belief system. He has never made an effort to reestablish any relationship since. Sad, we used to be able to discuss things.
Anyway, thanks for responding....I think. Know no more now than before, though. Used to follow you around the threads but grew weary of it and seldom do that these days.

Did not mean in any way to suggest that. But after an early dust up with you when I was new, you became my go to lib because you did not seem like the unreasonable ones. I'm not new anymore but you are still here with an unchanged mindset. Course, so am I.
It is easy for me to explain how I believe....it is the founding principles and the belief system that worked for a very long time and got us to greatness. In my mind liberal/progressive ideals will destroy it all, and quickly.
For example, Obamacare has absolutely zero to do with healthcare. It is about securing power and controlling poeple. Why do you think the veep called it a b f'n deal?
Thanks again.

Well...confused, again.

Submitted by GG_NB on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 12:49pm.

I'm having a tough time as well. If any of you guys can explain this to me...

First off, I'm on an iPAD, which is the only way I can currently access NB.

So...today, I come on NB and it's different than it's been. I no longer see "Read More" or "Comments" to click on the articles...but when I click on the headlines, the articles come up. So, after I clicked on a headline (on a total whim), for the very first time, it looked like I was Disqus-enabled.

The blog I clicked on is the July 22 "Congressman on Blaming the Tea Party for Aurora," and I posted a reply to the only comment that was on there, just as a test. It was a poster named "fuzzlenutter," and it was a conservative type of post, so I replied back to him. My reply posted okay.

However...while trying out different things (don't ask me what I did because I don't know), I discovered that it is almost like there are two separate comments sections for the blog I posted on -- just me and this poster -- and then a much longer listing of comments, where neither my comment nor this other guy's comment are even there. So I am apparently still in some alternate universe.

Anybody know what is going on? Can you guys see my comment and fuzzlenutter's on that blog? I just don't get it.

Matt is still working on the coding to make the i gadgets work for the Disqus comments.

The NB "old style" comments are no longer being enabled on new articles, except for the OT's this weekend (due to the style bar thing, I think).

I'd imagine at some point the comments for ALL old NB articles will be turned off (only the spammers leave anything on the old article comments)....Don't know if they'll enable Disqus on those or not.

Hang in there.

If you click on your Disqus Avatar, you will get a pop-up box that has your profile, and then next to it, the word "Activity". If you click on that, you'll see a chronological list of your comments (both at NB and other Disqus enabled sites). You can click that to take you back to an old comment/convo.

Hope that helps.

Yep, there it is, as though I really did make one!

So what I am beginning to think is that there are still some glitches with the mobile version that Matthew is working on...my husband doesn't get why nobody can see me on the Disqus thread either -- or why I can only see one other poster. Or why I am not really, truly "upstairs" yet, but I am signed up fine.

I'm just going to hang in there and give Matthew more time. It's just got to be something about my iPAD, don't ya think?

I know this sounds truly weird, but I can comment in Disqus -- but nobody can see my comments (people have checked), and I can't see anyone else's comments on Disqus either...except once in awhile, on only about one or two threads in a "blue moon," I can see about one or two comments from Disqus people I do not know. I can NEVER see more than two comments, ever. And almost all threads are blank...blank, blank, blank -- for just about the entire page all the time. I see none of NB's regulars.

Yeah, it's weird. I'm in...but not really. I am in "Alternate Disqusland." Pretty much, all alone. Nobody can see me; I can't see anyone else.

For now, I'll just try to get well and see what happens later for me on NB.

Try the following.

Delete all cookies. If you can, just delete Disqus cookies so you don't disturb your other cookies. Also, delete your browser cache. Now you need to sign back into Disqus.

There are several ways to sign into Disqus. First is as a guest with any name you want. You do not want this if you want to keep track of Likes and Replies. The second way is to sign into your registered account. When you go to post something and you are not yet logged in to Disqus, a window pops up that you fill out your registered user name and password. Note on this window are icons for the various portals like Disqus, Yahoo, etc on the left hand side. In order to sign in as a registered user, you need to choose the portal icon on the left that you originally signed up and registered through. A third way to sign into Disqus is go to Disqus.com and then sign in. Afterwards, when you go to NewsBusters you will be automatically signed into Disqus.

From what I have read, during certain times, when you;re not using your desktop, you're having problems. Are you having problems when you use your desktop? If not, then its a problem on Matts end, i.e. programming for other devices, mobile, etc.

If you're having problems when you're using your desktop, then my guess would be, it's on your end.

Matt has said that he/they are trying to do the programming for mobile device access.

So, my question is, when you're on your desktop, does that work?<./p>

My take is, (1) it could be a setting in your discuss account, (2) it could be be that NB hasn't done the programming for your mobile device yet (the IPAd), (3) You have a security setting on your IPAD that limits your access, (4) and last, but not least, you have an add-on in your browser that is limiting your access, i.e. Ghostery or NoScript.

Looks like it is hard to catch people in a lie now

Submitted by shawn. on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 4:55pm.

.........I loved the fact that when I caught somebody lying about something they said, I could link them back their prior post, it looks like people can made edits anytime they want now, even if somebody has responded to their post.

Doesn't the timestamp change if they do that after someone has replied to them? That should make it pretty obvious. If not, that's really not a good feature.

I'm not sure GG

However casual posters will not notice a timestamp and it will harder for a person to back up their point if they do not have evidence. In the past some individuals can just twist your words, now they can straight out lie.

Well, guys...the Apple must just be a tough one to implement on here. Here's the latest. Sorry if I am boring you. Feel free to skip this post!

I also made a comment a bit ago on the Muppet blog (I had to click the headline again to get that or any article to come up), and there were no other comments on the Muppet blog...that I can see anyway. So my short comment posted fine, and when I went back to Disqus I saw that it recorded it. But the NB comment thing shows 0 comments on the Muppet blog after I did that, and I am fairly confident that I am also "invisible" to any of you on there. Gee, I am the only one who can see myself, amd I can't see anyone else. How lonely!

Here is something weird though...when I went back to check to see if the Muppet comment was recorded on Disqus, it showed I have six "thumbs up" (I assume that means approval of what you posted) for the only other blog I mentioned I posted on -- with that one other person -- and you guys can't even see me on there! So how can I have six "thumbs up" on that other blog? Is that other poster the only one who can see me on there? But why would he/she give me six thumbs up? Can one person even click that button more than once anyway? It all just makes no sense to me.

Well, this is all too much for my Apple-headed brain. I will just leave it at posts on those two blogs, and will someone let me know if they ever SEE me show up on either?

I have ad-blocker, and a cookie killer thing, and I need to sign in and make sure I'm not a guest too...Sounds like you are close to figuring out this disqus suckus.
