Open Thread: A Stalled 'Green' Agenda

As the science behind the global warming fear machine continues to disintigrate, the many enviro-activist hangers-on who have made hundreds of millions scaring their fellow humans are beginning to realize something: while many politicians like to pretend  in public that they are in favor of stopping the supposed crisis, almost none of them actually ever bother to do much of anything about it. The realization comes in conjunction with the "Rio+20" conference, yet another lavish conference to promote climate alarmism which this time is having trouble getting world leaders to attend:

It’s easy to see why there is so much skepticism about this week’s meeting in Rio, officially called the UN Conference on Sustainable Development or “Rio+20.” When leaders met in the same convention centre 20 years ago for the first Earth Summit, they signed Agenda 21, a series of pledges for the 21st century to protect biological diversity, curb climate change, eradicate poverty and stop desertification.

Today, almost none of those pledges has been fulfilled. A recent report by the UN’s Environment Program tracked 90 goals from Agenda 21 and hundreds of other international conventions. It found that significant progress had been made on just four; reducing ozone depletion, removing lead from gasoline, improving access to water supplies and boosting research for marine pollution. Some or no progress had been made on 64 targets and there was further deterioration on eight, such as increased destruction of coral reefs. Progress on 14 others couldn’t be measured because of a lack of data.

There’s isn’t much hope that Rio+20 will change things. Several leaders have skipped the event, including U.S. President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Those who did show up are expected to sign a 53-page statement that contains no specifics. There had been hope the leaders would agree to “sustainable development goals” but that fell through and the statement is so weak it was greeted with boos by some delegates when it was unveiled at a preparatory gathering Tuesday. “There is no action. It’s very disappointing,” said Aleksandra Nasteska, co-founder of We Canada, a coalition of activists that was among some 50,000 participants in the preparatory meetings.

Dead Issue

Submitted by libBuster on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 10:01am.

The leaked emails and Al Gore's bimbo eruptions have all but killed this scam. Rumors were that the emails were purloined by a foreign intelligence agency and sent to US Media outlets. When US Media refused to publish, the documents were put on a website and went viral.

Imagine the New York Times, which has no problem publishing the intimate details of a "virus attack" on Iran would not publish "stolen" emails.

This was predicted...

Submitted by c5then on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 10:49am.

This is the best evidence yet that there is something MUCH bigger and more important being covered up than just what is known about the F&F scandal.

What could possibly have been "discovered" by allowing drug cartels to straw purchase the best weapons that their money could buy in the US and then "tracking" them after they were smuggled into Mexico? We already knew they were criminals. We already knew that they were ruthless and would kill people for the slightest infraction or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. What is it that could possibly have been learned and used in any kind of law enforcement action? The answer is basically nothing.

But what could have been alleged and used was that US guns were "flooding" over the border and arming the drug cartels and, therefor, the US needs to clamp down on gun sales in order to deal with the "crisis". IMO this was going to be used to gut the 2nd amendment and place the same restrictions that apply to handguns on all fire arms. This is the info that the administration desperately wants to prevent from seeing the light of day.

The ONLY reason

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 11:14am.

The ONLY reason that the WH would do such a thing is because they are directly involved in this whole thing in the first place after all, despite their public announcements saying as such.  And when I say directly, I mean O'Bambi himself is directly involved in it.

This is going to make Watergate look like a picnic.

Reps say: Go for it!
Dems say: No need for it!

What a Surprise! It’s just another pro-forma waste of time (imho) – just refer it to the floor for a vote and be done with it!

There's nothing more weak than threatening to do something and not following through. I realize this could get messy even for Repubs in various ways (hello, MSM spin), but sometimes you just have to do what is right. Holder won't comply. What choice do they really have, unless they want to teach the O Administration they can just do whatever?

"Until now, everyone believed that the decisions regarding Fast and Furious were confined to the Department of Justice,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement. “The White House decision to invoke executive privilege implies that White House officials were either involved in the Fast and Furious operation or the cover-up that followed. The administration has always insisted that wasn't the case. Were they lying, or are they now bending the law to hide the truth?”

Don't write off global (BS) warming yet.

Submitted by Newsbubba on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 10:43am.

I have a feeling that with all the crap that Bambi is pulling in just the last couple of weeks to gut the Constitution and eliminate separation of powers, it could get really, really hot soon.

The world is watching the USA disintegrate before their eyes, and our enemies haven't even had to lift a finger.  Their "agent," Obama is taking care of it for them.

Whether he wins or loses in November, this country is likely to explode.

Republicans in Congress need to get in his face now and stay there, or he will grind us all to dust with his BS version of a dictatorship.

No more smiling; no more "my friends across the aisle;" no more "the President is trying;" no more RINO/McCain politics or politicians!

If Obama doesn't destroy us himself, the vultures of the world are waiting for us to become so impotent that they can fight over us and destroy this country in the process.

Don't think it can happen here?  Read a history book!

This is why we can't wait

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 12:21pm.

Waiting till November as people keep saying isn't going to help us, it'll be too late and for the reasons you stated above.

I've been having a bad feeling the last couple of months that something's going to happen before then and all the stuff we're seeing, including today's "executive privilege" for F&F is leading up to it.

It absolutely INFURIATES me that people even at this point and time just don't seem to get this!

We are in danger NOW, and we have seen this coming for a long time.

We are being sold down the river and in full view of anyone who wants to see it.  And that's the problem, too many people don't want to see it, so they stick their heads in the sand or close their eyes, stick fingers in their ears and scream "Lalalalalala!"

Well what did they expect?

Submitted by c5then on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 11:13am.

When looked at objectively and logically, a warmer climate is good for the vast majority of the population. From the records that we have we know that civilization was able to thrive and make astounding advances historically when the climate was warmer, wetter and more freindly to the human species. After we had attained a certain level of technology, the climate became less of an issue. Now they are worried about it going back to a better condition?

Hw long will it be?

Submitted by Newsbubba on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 12:09pm.

I've been watching the three-ring circus on Fox about F & F, and I've noticed one problem that will rear its ugly head before dark today, I'm betting.

Everyone on the Democrat side who seems to be speaking in defense of Holder (black), and Obama (black) and his "executive privilege," appears to be black (is that acceptable terminology nowadays?).  All of the mean old Republicans on the other side are white boys.

How long will it be before MSNBC, NBC, CNN, and all other official Democrat organizations invoke "Racial Privilege?"

The White House, Justice, and all minority members of Congress are obviously being pursued by a pack of RACISTS!!!
