First GOP Presidential Debate Canceled Due to No Candidates
A tree falling in a forest with no one there does make a sound but it's a little hard to hold a presidential debate for Republicans when none of them have officially declared their intention to run.
This morning, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation announced that it had rescheduled a debate which was previouly supposed to be held for Republican presidential candidates in May to September 14. The forum is also being sponsored by the newspaper Politico and NBC.
Scuttlebutt has it that no one has thrown his/her hat into the ring as everyone is waiting to see what former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is going to do. Things are a bit murkier for her given her standing contract with Fox News as a paid staff commentator. That lucrative revenue stream for her would cease if she files to run for president.
Side note: Is it just me or does it seem odd that Republicans are teaming up with the corporate parent of MSNBC, television home of their most fecund haters?

A complete lack of candidates.
If, indeed, the GNoP'ers are waiting to see which way Duh Guv'Nor jumps, what more do you need to know about the Fox Party?

The initial post with needling taunts was designed to elicit an emotional response. I am surprised he did not have more insults thrown at him.
GNoP'ers is a taunting derivation of GOP with the word NO inside.
Duh Guv'Nor is a needling taunt of Governor Palin.
Fox Party is a derisive taunt relabling the Republican Party to subservience of Fox News.
I believe if trolls were refrained from issuing needling taunts like this, any name calling would be kept to a minimum. As it is, j. frank wilson's nearly every post is taunting by relabling every conservative, talk show host, Fox News show host with derivations of their names - Bull O'Reilly, Sheer Insanity, Ann Falter, BlunderRush, Lou Doggs, Glumm Bleek etc. I will be more than happy to send you links as this is his style to open his posts with taunting labels of whatever particular conservative happens to be the topic of the blog.
If I may take just a few more seconds of your time. I have documented the nearly 150 instances of continued lies, slurs, and slander to this site, its posters, its contributors or whatever right wing topic happened to fall under his sights. Including you yourself telling him to tone it down and Mr. Sheppard telling him to stay out of his blogs. It is only but for the grace of God go I that it was matthewdean and not myself that is responding to yet another opening shot chock full of needles and taunts. I believe there is a limit when it comes to lies spewed on a site and it seems to be somewhere around 115.
Thank you and I hope I did not take up too much of your time.
Sincerely,
A Veteran of a 1000 Psychic Wars.

Why schedual a debate this early?
Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 4:59pm.
Why would ANYONE schedule a debate this early, just to be the "first?" Most potential candidates haven't even made a decision as to their actual candidacy, and that's true with BOTH major parties. No one with any intelligence whatsoever would attend a debate before they even decided to run. That's just pure foolishness on the part of the people who "scheduled" this debate. They could at least wait until we know who the actual candidates are before scheduling a debate. Ronald Reagan would be laughing his butt off over this.

... by the all of the future Republican candidates and the country country as a whole, by throwing cold water on the whole notion of having such a debate so ridiculously early.
Many of the issues discussed now will be different by a year and a half from now.
This so-called "debate" was actually a "set-up."

I think it's good strategy for the GOP candidates to delay announcing. The msm is just dying to start picking them apart, and not on matters of importance. Why give them that advantage?
don't rush the stage while obama is onstage ducking tomatoes
Submitted by MidAmerica on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 5:59pm.
I totally agree. The longer the MSM cannot focus on destroying any Republican contenders the more all the focus is on obama. And obama is obama's worst enemy.
There is plenty of time for Republicans to introduce themselves to the voters. Besides the election will be about obama so Republicans can run "Anybody but obama" and win.
That is a good point. Obama
Submitted by Matthew Sheffield on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 6:30pm.
That is a good point. Obama certainly benefited from a lack of scrutiny by the press. Delaying for time is the best way that GOP candidates can get that slack.
