February 5, 2008 - 22:03 ET by HermanoI would love to be able to say this was dirty pool, but I have been thinking about it for some time now. If McCain supporters want Romney out of the picture, then this is a very good way of approaching it. Now had it been Huckabee supporters doing the same thing in order to get McCain the win, then it would definitely been dirty. Had the McCain leaders not said anything, then Romney likely would have pulled some of the caucusers his way to get to 50+%. But since the "perceived" social differences between Romney and McCain are lesser, a closer to 50-50 split of Huckabee's delegates would be divided among McCain and Romney giving Romney the win. So I am cautious about calling this "collusion" although there are other things that suggest it is the case.

so there is no issue with potential bribing of officials. i am probably wrong but i understood that campaign staffers and politicians are suppose to schedule their voting times and get in and out of the area without any campaigning(i think handshaking counts as campaigning) and they are suppose to only be in their designated voting site right? so what is she doing in ct smoozing and sucking up despite it being before the poles open, she is still smoozing the officials. imaging if a conservative did that.

I had the feeling the Chelsea Election Law Violation story would crash (or be pulled), so when I sent it in to you, I pasted in the entire story, including the part where someone from the Clinton camp "apologized and said it wouldn't happen again", which is Clinton-spin for, "Yeah, we did it, and you can't do anything about it."
See if you can find the story that I sent in, and post it for us, will you?

Chelsea at the Polling Place
By ConnPolitics.tv Editor, on Feb 5, 2008
(WTNH) _ This might cause a headache for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign in Connecticut. The picture above is Chelsea Clinton inside a New Haven polling place at 6:00 a.m.
So why might this be an issue? According to state law, candidates or a candidate’s representative, such as someone wearing a sign, have to stay 75-feet away from polling places “on the day of any primary".
Here’s the link to the statute – Sec. 9-236.
The daughter of the Democratic presidential candidate was delivering a box of coffee to poll workers and talking with a firefighter in New Haven. According to a News Channel 8 photographer who was there, when the moderator announced that the polls are open, Clinton immediately went outside.
“I did not consider it an issue because she didn’t come here, as far as I’m concerned, to influence anything here or disrupt us,” said New Haven election moderator Nilda Torres.
The Clinton incident prompted an e-mail from the Secretary of the State’s office to the New Haven Registrar of Voters, reminding them of the 75-foot law.
In a statement from Clinton campaign, spokesman Philippe Reines said “a live TV interview being conducted by WTNH at the site delayed her departure until just after 6, at which point she immediately left the station.”
The WTNH news crew says there was ample room for Ms. Clinton to leave the voting area during their live report.
In a live interview on News Channel 8 at 5:00, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said, “I did speak with the Clinton campaign this afternoon and they apologized and said it wouldn’t happen again.”
No one has filed a formal complaint with the state Elections Enforcement Commission about Chelsea Clinton’s early morning visit.
The Elections Enforcement Division says it’s never had to interpret whether “on the day of any primary” means when the polls open at 6:00 a.m., or when the day starts at 12:01 a.m.
“Any citizen can file a complaint with Election’s Enforcement, and they are in charge of enforcing the election laws in our state,” Secretary Bysiewicz said. “It’s our job to advise people what the law is and we did do that early this morning.”

Republicans North and South are joined at the hip, but in denial
February 6, 2008 - 03:05 ET by BritcomFiscal conservative Republicans have rejected Social issues.
Social conservative Republicans have not rejected Fiscal issues, just relegated them to second place.
Fiscal conservatives are discovering that they can't win an election, or even a majority of primary delegates while at the same time ignoring or insulting those who support social conservative issues in their party.
The Whig North can't win without the Christian South. If they remain at odds, the (Socially and Fiscally) Moderate West will win. The tragedy is that the North and South issues are not incompatible at all. But the North covets the secular independent vote and has attempted to create a coalition with them that jettisons the Christian South. But the South is a rebel state and is not afraid to dump the party if the North tries to push them aside.
So, the system rewards a Western candidate like McCain.
The South just cannot understand why the North continues to treat the Christian South like a red-headed stepchild.

I thought I heard someone
February 6, 2008 - 08:34 ET by LeonI thought I heard someone talking about 11 v. 12 states.
Does that person realize that the number of states is irrelevant.
The number of delegates is what matters.
Romney had 200. McCain had 497.
That's a slaughter.
Leon, stop with the shallow analysis, look a little deeper
February 6, 2008 - 08:50 ET by JayTeeRomney won his home state by over 50% of the vote, but McCain got 18 delegates in Mass to Romeny's 22.
McCain didn't even win his home State by 50%, but McCain got ALL the Arizona delegates.
So Slaughter doesn't enter into the equation, but winner take all does.
As you look at the closeness of the Clinton/Obama delgates, except for the winner take all dominance of the Republican primaries the republican race would be very similar.
A slaughter by someone who has NOT even hit the high 40 percentile in popular votes ? I don't think so.
McCain is Half way there in Delegate count.
