Arianna Huffington trying to be funny. That's scary as a concept, in actual practice it's simply unfunny as you can see by visiting 23/6, her new comedy site. Ace pretty much sums it up:
Why 23/6? Because it's not 24/7, and see their motto is "Some of the news, most of the time."
Note that the 1/2 Hour News Hour took quite a shellacking for its uninspired time-based gag name. Arianna Huffington decided that that well wasn't quite dry, and tried her hand it.
Enjoy the ineptness. The next time a liberal claims that liberals are funny whereas conservatives are dour, just shoot him the 236.com url and collect your big pile of win.
Please also note the hugely outdated "SwiftKids for Truth" ads which are parodying something from the 2004 election. Guess no one forgot to tell them comedy does have a shelf-life.
If we had even one-fourth of their budget for NewsBusted...

humor requires truth - this site will be funny - not the way they intend that's fer sure:) hope it stays up through the elections
eh
November 13, 2007 - 11:47 ET by candanceSo I checked out that page and it all looked pretty contrived. There wasn't much in the way of real humor, either - it looked like the same subjects they cover on all their other leftie sites. Either their sense of humor is different from mine, or I missed something.

catch the red eye!
November 13, 2007 - 12:04 ET by Jack Bauerbal -- check out Red Eye. It's scatalogically funny mainly because Gutfeld is a genuinely funny and iconoclastic kinda guy.
And he ain't scared to have mostly liberal guests and has 2 fairly liberal co-hosts.
The scary Michael Masden was hilarious last week, and he truly ripped the Dog. Greg makes Stewart look like the comedian your aged great-grandmother likes.
Oh -- and he's read out a couple of my emails, so clearly he's a genius.

November 13, 2007 - 18:08 ET by LeonJack,
Generally I find you to be a funny guy, so I have to admit, I was shocked to learn that you like RedEye.
I can't stand the show myself, but I'm curius to ask a question of someone who can. (I didn't even know there was anyone that watched this show, let alone thought it was funny)
How can you stand that insanely offensive, never funny, token gay guy?
Leon .. I seriously don't
November 14, 2007 - 12:14 ET by Jack BauerLeon .. I seriously don't understand your point here?
So you don't like RE. So what. Why wouldn't I like Red Eye? It's actually topically and improvizationally funny.
Unlike the totally contrived John Stewart -- who has his moments, but can't open his mouth without 20 writers having decided what he's gonna say. Hence him being off air.
I also think Robin Williams stand-up is scatalogically and surreally funny too. Hardly a conservative. I used to work for John Cleese. Personally the guy is nuts -- but he was a comic genius.
And if you don't agree with me you are worse than Hitler, and the terrorists have won.
How many gays have to be on the show so he would not be a "token."
In fact, what does that "token" crack even means. How about all the black guests on Red Eye. It's like an Urban League convention... Are they just "tokens"?
Greg Proops is a regular. Isn't he some crazed liberal gay guy? I guess your just too prudish for Red Eye. But that's okay.
By the way... RE is on prime time on Saturday -- so I guess there must be more than me watching.
Toodaloo Big Boy.

November 13, 2007 - 12:38 ET by MikeBUmmm... this is funny? Did they claim it is a humor site? Perhaps they have as much difficulty defining humor as the Great Stainmaker had with defining "is". I would try to add "humor" to my Democrat Newspeak English Dictionary, except I haven't figured out what their definition of humor is.

November 13, 2007 - 14:25 ET by third eyeMe - So Mr. Bush, whats you opinion of the new comedy website Big Red just put up, 23/6?
George W Bush - “23/6 is not funny at all my friend. I
could replace them with a small group of sub-Saharan monkeys, and it would be funnier.
In fact, I’ve personally seen several Asian primates from the phylum pandiasisas who had
better material than they do. Who did they learn their jokes from, Alan Colmes?
Me - I believe several of the contributors studied at the John Kerry School of Advanced Windsurfing, sir.
George W Bush - Well even with those fine credentials, I still laugh harder than a tree dwelling Berkeley hippy on crack whenever I watch the the unscripted rantings of Big Red on MSNBC. And that my friend, is no joke.

November 13, 2007 - 18:12 ET by LeonI wish they hadn't done this. There goes our lock on the comedy market.
PS Matthew, I notice you've adopted my statute of limitation on jokes argument. Nice. Although, I distinctly remember many of the NBs (including yourself) arguing that comedy does NOT have a shelf-life.
You say a joke about 2004 is too old? I agree, but it would be nice if you all applied this principle to Newsbusted.

November 13, 2007 - 18:20 ET by LeonBT,
If you agree with Matthew that the SwiftKids joke is old, that means you've changed your tune about a joke's shelf life and you agree with my original argument against Newsbusted.
For your reading pleasure
Just follow the thread. You'll see I challenged Newsbusted for old jokes. I knew I was right. I'm glad everyone fought against me only to have Matthew come out and agree with me several weeks later.

November 13, 2007 - 19:47 ET by MikeBPoor Leon. Let me explain it to you slowly: some humor is timeless, some is not. "Who's on first?" is timeless and funny no matter who you are. Swiftkids wasn't funny and never was. Was it supposed to have been funny?
Some of the jokes on NewsBustes were very good, some of them bombed...one even the laugh track groaned at. Nothing at the 23/6 site was the least bit funny. And, it's not because it is a liberal site, it's because it's an unfunny liberal site. Some of the stuff by Leno and Letterman are funny, even some of the stuff aimed at Republicans and/or conservatives. Huffington and her group aren't funny.
