CBS's Pelley Covers First Day of Sandusky Trial; Ignored Edwards Trial Until Verdict
The weekday edition of CBS Evening News with anchor Scott Pelley bizarrely paid no attention to the campaign finance trial of 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards until the jury declared a mistrial on all but one count on May 31, 2012. By contrast, the evening news program devoted a full report to the first day of the trial of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky on Monday.
Pelley's omission also stands out on his own network. CBS This Morning aired multiple segments on the Edwards case between April 23, the first day of the trial, and June 1, 2012, when the morning show aired a full report from correspondent Ann Werner, along with a discussion segment with Erin Moriarty of 48 Hours.
Even the Sunday edition of CBS Evening News covered the story. Anchor Jeff Glor brought Moriarty on the program on April 22, the evening before opening statements in the trial.
Pelley's competitors on ABC's World News and NBC Nightly News also deemed the Edwards case newsworthy. The two evening newscasts ran 34 segments on the story between April 12 and May 16, 2012.

....that Sandusky was a Republican. What else would elicit that type of coverage? Certainly not the child molestation charges. Libs think that pedophiles can be rehabilitated.
Yes, because...

Yes, because conceiving a child and fu%@ing one should be treated exactly the same.

The headline gives a false comparison because if Edwards was guilty on all charges, it would have been ignored and unreported.

Catholic.
His mother was, and Maureen Dowd—never one to shy away from slamming the Holy See—wrote, "Like the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, the Penn State hierarchy appears to have covered up pedophile crimes to protect its brand." (NYT, 11/9/2011)
The media will ignore the prosecutor*

Having an interest in the Sandusky trial, it was a joy to see the prosecutors opening day's work. He made everyone remember what this trial was about. He showed photos and gave information on every single one of Sandusky;s victims. THIS is where we must focus and good for the prosecutor to shove it to the media. Now slant that Pelley.Trash those kids.
I don't think he will

They're victims of a pedophile. That's bad. The alleged pedophile is a white man, to be expected, but still vile. And a Catholic—well, where's the surprise? And they play a violent, brutal game, which is in itself brutalizing and dehumanizing and exposes children and young adults to a deplorable ethos of spartan rigor, a brutal punishing regimen of practices, and brutal violence. Did I mention violence? And white male predatory pedophile, almost like a priest?
Nah, they won't go after any child outside the womb.

I usually agree with NBusters analysis of biased media but the Sandusky trial is a big story. This man was a monster and those who knew of his activities including Paterno should be totally discredited including their careers.
cbeyer, I could not agree more!

cbeyer, I could not agree more. Edwards is a slime bag but if these charges against Sandusky are true, this is a crime of historic proportions. This transcends politics.
