'Go Nancy'? CNN's Kathleen Parker Admires Pelosi, the Democrats' 'Mama Grizzly'

By Matthew Balan | December 10, 2010 | 13:38

Kathleen Parker, CNN's resident pseudo-conservative, gushed over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday's Parker-Spitzer, trumpeting how the San Francisco liberal stood amongst her fellow Democrats: "She's the 'mama grizzly' in this crowd, is she not?" Parker also stated she had "great admiration" for Pelosi, and even cheered her on: "Go, Nancy!" [audio available here]

The host, along with her on-air partner Eliot Spitzer, shared yet another moment of mutual agreement during the lead segment of their program, ripping President Obama for his proposed tax compromise with congressional Republicans. Spitzer wasted little time in launching his attack on the executive: "He is like a school kid who's been sent home again to redo his homework because it was that bad the first time around. And you know what? They're right. He embraced George Bush's economic policies, and the Democrats in the House are saying, start over."

Parker agreed with him to a point, but tried to emphasize a possible long term benefit for Obama:

[Video embedded below the page break]

PARKER: I have to say that just objectively looking at this, it looks terrible for the President in the moment....But I have to say, in the long run, it could actually help him, because the truth is, the President has to get elected in 2012- reelected, that is- and he's got to get the moderates and the centrists and the independents back. So, he may end up looking good in the longer run, but for right now, it seems like he's is in a terrible bind.

The former Democratic governor continued his fire at the President, which ultimately drew out his co-host's superlative for Pelosi:

SPITZER: No. He looks weak. You can't come back from looking weak, in my view. He has no strength. He stands for nothing. He has forsaken ideology for cutting any deal in sight. He did it initially with the Republicans on the stimulus. He did it on health care. He did with Wall Street. He does it with anybody who walks in with a deal. He doesn't know how to negotiate. He doesn't know how to walk away. He doesn't know how to say- no, here's a line in the sand, and I think that the House Democrats are finally standing up and saying, we stand for something and that's important.

PARKER: You know who does know how to draw a line in the sand? I just want to say this-

SPITZER: Yeah?

PARKER: With great admiration- nonpartisan.

SPITZER: Yeah.

PARKER: Nancy Pelosi.

SPITZER: That's right.

PARKER: You know, Nancy Pelosi is just- she is- she's the 'mama grizzly' in this crowd, is she not?

SPITZER: Well, she-

PARKER: No, she's backing the caucus, rather than the President. She's clearly made a choice-

SPITZER: Right. That is her job, and so, I'm not surprised at some level she did that. But I think you're exactly right. When it came to health care, she is the one who puts some backbone in the White House that was wavering about what to do. She is the one who has marshaled the Democrats in the House of Representatives throughout this process, and even at the moment of a lame duck Congress, she is saying, we believe in something- we're going to act on it.

PARKER: Go, Nancy!

It's no surprise that these two CNN hosts are on the same side. Just over a week earlier, on December 1, Parker agreed with Spitzer to a point about how the country is apparently "being held hostage by 42 Republican senators" and cracked back, "I got stuck on the image of being held hostage by 42 Republicans- talk about a bad date." Before their program started, during an appearance on Anderson Cooper 360 on September 9, the hosts were unanimous that "well-spoken" Imam Feisal Rauf had changed few minds concerning his planned mosque near Ground Zero in New York City with his Larry King interview.

CNN, you're pathetic

Dear CNN:

Is Parker/Spitzer still on the air?  I guess CNN is still trying to pretend they have a chance, despite rather bad ratings..

Much like CNN pretends Parker has any ability to represent the conservative point of view.  I know she looks "right wing" from your little bubble guys, but cmon.  You are NOT fooling anybody else.

Yours truly,

The Public

Parker's a silly scrunt who tries to trick us with her "Look at me! I'm a Conservative" trick. Why are they still on the air? Isn't CNN losing money on these two or did Obama's Fed give them a secret loan the same way they got one to MSNBC via GE and NBC?

You have to laugh, SoL

Submitted by Blonde on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 2:10pm.

Sarah Palin inhabits the media's head, rent free, 24/7.

It's hilarious that they'd use the term "mama grizzly", which was coined in re: Palin....as a complementary term when applied to Bela Pelosi.

Palin has put her stamp on the lexicon of American politics.  Death Panels.  Mama Grizzly.  Lipstick on the Pig (politically speaking).  Hockey Mom.

Rock on, Sarah Palin.....keep poking the media and the liberals with that stick of yours.  If nothing else, it keeps us amused.

Democratic "Mama Grizzly" alright

Submitted by Galvanic on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 2:55pm.

The House Democrats elevated her to 'Mama,' and on Election Night 2010, things got grizzly.

The good news is that she doesn't know when to fade away, so as Minority Leader, she'll continue to amuse with crazy quotes like, "Unemployment benefits are the best stimulus for the economy," and "We have to pass this (health care bill) so we can see what's in it."

No Kath, San Fran Nan is Not a Mama Grizzly.  As (Mama) Grizzlies don't "Do" Botox.

However, You could have one of your Proggie friends try to apply an injection or two, or twenty-two of them into a Grizzly, up close and personal, if they'd like to.  Fine be me.

In fact, I hear that the Hollywood set is especially great with animals - when they're not being tested to see if that sets ridiculously fake breassss, and their collagen shots, and Yeah, even their Botox injections and such, are gonna be safe for Them to 'wear'.  Go figure.

We Get the Point Libs...Conservatives are Evil....

Submitted by gruyere cheese on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 4:22pm.

Yada, yada, yada. Kathy,  let's have constructive, factual arguments instead of this never ending rhetoric you and your cohorts spew over the TV airwaves constantly about Conservatives vs. Liberals.

In their world no matter the issues facing our troubled country; Conservatives will always be the "evil ones" who are trying to destroy the world. Liberals are the saviors of our  nation and therefore; we must all convert.

Kathy took the expression "mama grizzly" from Sarah Palin. If this term is applied to a conservative woman; it means the grizzly bear is going to eat you and the rest of your family. When applied to a wing nut like Pelosi it implies she is protecting her posse.

These liberal men and women are on a never ending LSD trip.

HA HA HA HA

Submitted by Cho Yi Fan on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 4:46pm.

Being a long time resident of the SF Bay area I have been watching the exploits of Nancy Pelosi- the san francisco treat-for decades. From her rise to power in the California democratic party-she sucked up to a powerful democratic congressman to get where she is.- to her current Witch of capital hill status she has always been consistant in one catagory. She has always been and will always be a radical left wing nut. She is no more a Mama Grizzley than Sponge Bob Square pants is.Pelosi a mama grizzley???? I would give that title to Sponge Bob first!!! ....HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!

The left hates-or so they say- Sarah Palin but  they adopt one of her favorite slogans as if using the slogan will make them seem tough. Progressives do not understand the spirit of what mama grizzley is and they can only misapply the term. Palin shooting that caribou was the spirit of a mama grizzley. It's about the spirit one needs to survive. It's not about the nerve to tell the prez of your own party to F&%K Off.

Now that the progressives are facing some legislative adversity they have become a nation of whiners. As Sarah would put it," Time for progressives to man up!" ...you betcha!!!

This is where Spitzer has it wrong

Submitted by ThisnThat on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 7:32pm.

..."He embraced George Bush's economic policies, and the Democrats in the House are saying, start over."

Wrong, Spitzer. The remaining democrats in the House are saying start over. And the remaining democrats have absolutely no power come January. All you're doing is trying to convince everyone that there was no election. Nothing to see here. Just keep moving in the same direction. And that's exactly the attitude that clobbered the dims in November, and is likely to do again come 2012. We want change, and we want it now.

Rick Sanchez.....Eliott Spitzer....Kathleen Parker.....and the soon-to-be tanking Larry King Show host Piers Morgan....Does Time Warner invest any strategy in their programming arm whatsoever...remember, this is the Network that debuted a crappy show right after the Sopranos when the HBO universe was turning off their TVs with the Sopranos artistically crappy sign-off.

This Network and Company is a joke....now the news comes from the internet and we got rid of their crappy cable as well
