CNN's Sanchez: Conservative Lying About True UK Health Care Horror Story

Rick Sanchez, CNN Anchor | NewsBusters.orgOn Friday’s Newsroom, CNN’s Rick Sanchez implied that the president of Conservatives for Patients Rights was lying about how “under the British health care system...health care has become so scarce that mothers are now forced to give birth to babies on sidewalks.” A woman in the UK did deliver on a sidewalk recently, but Sanchez complained, “As...you might expect, that statement went unchallenged.”

The CNN anchor made this accusation 18 minutes into the 3 pm Eastern hour of the CNN program. Just before this, he used the occasion of a new “attack ad” from Conservatives for Patients Rights to re-air the bulk of his August 6 interview with the organization’s president, Rick Scott. Sanchez questioned the credibility of the ad: “It makes the questionable charge that health care reform will raise your taxes on everything- everything, it says- and it comes from a group whose track record, as revealed on this newscast, is dubious.” In his view, CPR is “dubious” because their president Scott “does not really seem to want the government getting in the way of his profits....He got rich beyond imagination, while his health care chain was ripping off the federal government. And remember? Scott admitted to me that his company paid a record fine of $1.7 billion for defrauding Medicare.”

After playing about four minutes from his earlier interview with Scott, Sanchez gave an update of sorts on the CPR president’s whereabouts: “By the way, we should share with you this- Rick Scott appeared last night on a conservative news program, and he agreed with a suggestion that under the British health care system- which he maintains the United States will adopt- health care has become so scarce that mothers are now forced to give birth to babies on sidewalks. And as it- you might expect, that statement went unchallenged.” As the anchor said this, the graphic on-screen read, “Untrue, Unchallenged” [see above].

Scott’s anecdote actually took place. An August 17 article from the UK Daily Mail reported that on August 2, “A young mother gave birth on a pavement outside a hospital after she was told to make her own way there. Mother-of-three Carmen Blake called her midwife to ask for an ambulance when she went into labour unexpectedly with her fourth child. But the 27-year-old claims she was refused an ambulance and told to walk the 100m from her house in Leicester to the city’s nearby Royal Infirmary.”

So what is there to challenge, Mr. Sanchez?

I agree.  He is playing in

I agree.  He is playing in his own little world.

Had lunch today with a friend who married a Brit. He says that the horror stories are true and they're just starting to fix the mess that he's been familiar with since the 80s.

He said, "You've got the world's best medical care and people from all over the world fly over here to take advantage of it. Obama's solution is to fix something that's not broken."

I guess the Democrat war cry in general is, "If it ain't broke, break it!"

I think that is how they

I think that is how they plan on doing everything.  Break it and then rebuild it in their image.

You mean like how your media buddies can

trot out the Southern Poverty Law Center hacks and act as if their "analysis" is gospel truth?  Funny how Sanchez is quick to point out the shadiness of Scott's background (as he should), but the SPLC people get to claim they're non-partisan, and aren't challenged at all on their leftist affiliations.  This, however, was such a transparent attempt at a smear since he never produced any evidence to refute Scott's story.

What?  You swift-boat an Hispanic "journalist" by proving him a liar?  Raaaaacccccciiiiiiissssst! :D

Yeah, Sanchez. Like liberals

Yeah, Sanchez. Like liberals aren't given to hyperbole, like "back alley abortions" and "sixty people dying every day because of lack of health insurance" - and like the media doesn't dutifully repeat their myths without any questions as to their veracity.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Doesthis count Sanchez?

I guess this is a lie too: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/6049942/Family-told-by-NHS-Alzheimers-is-not-a-health-condition.html

How about this Sanchez? Is this irrelevent too?

In fact, it's no leap whatsoever [death panels], as would be apparent to anyone who has been paying serious attention, as opposed to media-level attention, to the problem of health care. The British National Health Service, the mother of all nationalized health systems, has had what amounts to a "death panel" system since 2005. Under the terms of the Mental Capacity Act, patients unable to communicate with hospital personnel are considered to be "due to die" and are removed from all forms of life support, including  food and water. In other words, given the same treatment meted out to Terry Schiavo.

The most notorious recent case involving this act occurred last year when Mrs. Ellen Westwood, an 88-year-old retiree, entered Birmingham's Selly Oak hospital for shoulder surgery. While recovering she caught the inevitable iatrogenic "superbug" infection, a daily occurrence in British hospitals, and one which costs up to 30,000 lives a year. Without further ado, the Selly Oak doctors declared Mrs. Westwood "due to die" and began the process of shutting her down.

But the Westwood family refused to cooperate. After demanding that treatment be resumed, they were threatened with law enforcement action and effectively chased from the hospital. Returning with another doctor, they obtained a second opinion and had their mother released into their care. Once home, she recovered in short order and survives to this day.

Yes, once the ...

Yes, once the government has control and the ability to enforce their edicts the citizens no longer have freedom. If "the one" obama's healthcare agenda gets passed, "We the People" will lose our freedoms.

Obama wants controls of the lives of all citizens. "We the People" need to use every legal means available to prevent obama from taking control of our lives.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.

Also remember folks, that the way to SUPPORT THE TROOPS is to support their mission. Anyone who says that they support the troops but don't support their mission is lying about supporting the troops. And if you want to know, yes I do have a dog in the fight, he is a United States Marine.

I wonder how long that poor

I wonder how long that poor guy that a drunken Rick Sanchez ran over would have lasted under the British NHS.  Surely not nearly as long as he did here.

FITZY...

A couple of things...

1. The guy he hit Jeffery Smuzinick died about 5 years after Sanchez run him over. My guess is he would have died with a year under some version of Obama-care. He was in a coma for 2 months after Ricky plowed into him. Here is a story about the victim before he died. It absolutly pissed me off when I read it...

http://www.miaminewtimes.com/1991-08-07/news/the-forgotten-man/

2. Fitzy, your boys earned the 3 points last Sunday at White Hart Lane. Well taken goals, Spurs did'nt luck into anything, job well done. The only people who looked like competing for the Reds were Gerrard(as always)& Glen Johnson. I was'nt too overwelmed when Rafa signed him, but he's looking like the $H!t already. He was great vs Stoke(yeah, I know it's only Stoke), but he looks like money well spent.

Yeah, I didn't think

Yeah, I didn't think Gerrard made much of an impression last week.  Beyond the penalty, I don't remember seeing him at all (and even then he hit the crossbar with a gaping goal at his mercy in the follow-through).  Reina was impressive and continues to get better.  Burnley's victory over Man United warmed my heart, though.  I think it's Liverpool or Chelsea for the title this year, though I'll be pulling for Man City to win it (sure, Spurs are my team, but I have to keep my expectations realistic...they are simply not built to break into the top four).  Did you hear about the demise of World Soccer Daily on Sirius?

FITZY...

No I had not, now I have satellite radio, but I have been with XM, WorldSoccerDaily has been on Sirius. Now I did notice that Steven Cohen was no longer on FoxFootball call in on FSC, replaced by Eric Wynalda.

So I looked into what you asked me about, it did'nt take long to see that Liverpool & Hillsborough, & Cohen's remarks about that disaster were at issue. I know he holds same LFC fans for triggering the disaster, & on some level, he may have a point. I generally don't go to an event without a ticket unless I intend to find someone selling. I'm sure some LFC fans went there without tickets. On the other hand, I have looked into Hillsborough & other soccer disasters, & security did'nt seem to be ready for what might happen. Also, back in those days, the fans were in sectioned off pens, much like farm animals, with the big fencing along the front. So when/if something happens, you are screwed if you were in them. Everything that could go wrong that day, did, & 96 people died that did'nt need to.

Now, Hillsborough changed everything involving security & safety at soccer stadiums in the UK. All seaters, no terraces, they got rid of the big sideline fencing, high tech video to pinpoint troublemakers, & better trained staff to deal with potential problems before they become riots & disasters. Just like all things in life & sport, it takes a tradgedy to force needed changes, safety changes in particular.

Now, Steven Cohen is a very opinionated guy, he stands his ground, & I like that, even when I disagreed with him. He also took on a subject that is of EXTREME SENSITIVITY to Liverpool fans, & made the mistake of opening himself to misinterpitation by a hardcore element of LFC fans. The open wound of the 96 bit Cohen in the @$$, & if Reds fans had just given him some flack & moved on, that would be fine. But there were/are elements who harrassed him & his family in totally unacceptable ways. Bothering his stepkids & using anti-semetism to go after Cohen is way out of bounds, & considering that he felt that is was not worth it to carry on is sad. I can only wonder what it's like for guys like O'reilly, Hannity, Beck, Dobbs, or anyone running for high office.

I am saddened that it came down to this for Steven Cohen, Kenny Hassan, & WorldSoccer Daily. This is the USA, & speaking one's mind is a constitutionally protected right here. This also includes protesting the actions/speech of others, but that never gives one the right to threaten & harrass someone for their opinion. As a proud Liverpool fan, I'm ashamed of the actions of those who chased Cohen & WSD off of the air on Sirius. I will stress I had NOTHING to do with any of this, & as a person with many on my dad's side of the family who are practicing jews, the anti-semitism pisses me off. Those people need to be pointed out & shunned by not just Liverpool fans, but all soccer fans.

Sorry about being long here, but it's a point I felt I needed to make.

Yeah, it's interesting.

Yeah, it's interesting.  On Friday's show, Cohen made mention of the Glenn Beck boycotts...although it was difficult to tell whether, being a liberal, he actually got the irony or if he was somehow suggesting that what Glenn Beck said was more offensive.  Having met Cohen on more than one occasion, I can tell you that he's no dummy, but it'll be interesting to learn if he can see beyond his ideology to know that he's getting a taste of the Alinskyite medicine his hero Obama got famous dishing out.

good theory, sanchez

Appaerently those people at CPR are so powerful they paid the UK Telegraph to lie about the story too. And then no one in England was able to get the truth out, and only one plucky journalist on CNN has been brave enough to confront the lie.

Thank God CNN is kind enough to hire drunk drivers, or the truth of this would never get out!

As a Latino born in

As a Latino born in Venezuela, I can tell you that Ricardito Sanchez is a perfect idiot. He represents Latinos that are ashmed of being Latinos and who feel that they aren't good enough to be someone in life without the help of government aid. He is the type of Latino that gives us a bad name.

The man is a pro-Obama fool. I have read his twitter y el pendejo, admits it.

Incredible that the son of Cuban exiles can be such a radical socialist. I guess he didn't mind what happened to his parents and to his family in Cuba.

Not to mention that this is the same guy that had a hit and run while being drunk. He used his political and police connections to get out of it.

he is what we call in Venezuela, and pardon my french, "un come mierda!"

Well said, except in Sanchez's case

"la mierda" tends to go out whenever he says anything on CNN.  :)

Hey Sanchez...

...Goonie goo goo...

2010: A GOP Hill

We don't deliver on your side of the street...

"I went into the bath and realised she was going to come quickly. I didn't think I'd be able to make it out of the bath, so I phoned the maternity ward back and told them to get an ambulance out. They said they were not sending an ambulance and told me I had had nine months to sort out a lift."

Sanchez is not a real doctor but he plays one on TV.  But not to worry says Rick.  The British Government will review all healthcare compaints against themselves by themselves.

Once again, I must ask - why

Once again, I must ask - why is this man even on the air? When has he ever shown remorse for driving drunk, fleeing the scene and leaving a pedestrian to die in the street ten years ago? Where is his heart? Where is his conscience?

Where is his conscience?

Right alongside Ted Kennedy's, where else?

Interesting how ...

Interesting how they turn on their own. Britian is a country which has many socialist ideas in place. They are liberal in their thinking. Now the liberals are telling us not to follow in their footsteps with regards to healthcare. Many, many, many healtcare professionals in Britain along with the common folks are telling us that their system is broken.

But here in the US we have people like Sanchez who are pushing "the one" obama's plan (sorry, obama doesn't have a plan, just an agenda). These MSM madmen and women keep putting the failing socialist system forward as the model to follow. And in order to do that, they have to marginalize the critics in Britian, who have actual experience with their failed government run program.

That's what is awaiting "We the People" here in the US if the obama healthcare ploy if passed. Remember, this healthcare ploy has changed names several time already. This plan does not address what needs to be done. The plan that is currently being pushed is HR3200 and it only addresses what obama wants to push on "We the People" to get control over our lives.

Obama and his cronies what to have total control over the lives of every American citizen. These people what to establish a class system here in the United States where there are only 2 classes; the elite (obama and his rich friends) and the serfs (the rest of us).

"We the People" need to use every legal means available to get these people out of office.

Remember folks, Freedom isn't Free. It was bought with the blood and sacrifice of the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Truth Challenge

Like all socialists, Marxists and Communists, Sanchez simply states that events he disagrees with, or wants to cover up, didn't occur. This is called NEWS SPEAK. Remember, Pulitzer Prize winning writer for the New York Times, Duranty, stated categoricaly that the Soviets under Stalin NEVER engaged in any purges or Pogroms in the 30's; that he knew personally, and was a friend of the Psychopathic Butcher Joseph Stalin, and that all reports of such were simply lies to hurt the noble progressive soviet cause. Untold millions died as a result of the New York Times perfidy and pro communist propaganda, lies and conspiracy They still have the blood of millions on their filthy paws. The msm are following a similar course. Now they are trying to convince us that Obama isn't a communist, well, they said Joe Stalin was a great guy too.

Wake up and smell the

Wake up and smell the coffee.  Nobody died because the NY Times lied or was perfidious.  These people died because the Stalinists killed them.  Whether the hacks at the Times reported this or not would not have changed the course of history.  Stalin could not have cared less about what the NY Times thought about his regime.
