Bozell on 'America's Newsroom' Discusses Meeting on Conservatism's Future

  • Bookmark and Share

Brent Bozell, president of the Conservative Victory Committee, as well the publisher of NewsBusters and MRC president, appeared on Friday's America's Newsroom program on Friday and discussed a recent meeting he hosted with the leaders of other conservative organization: "The purpose was to look at the election results and take stock of where we are and where we're going" [audio available here].

As he pointed out in his Fox & Friends segment earlier in the morning, he stated how voters thought Barack Obama was the fiscal conservative in the presidential race. He also emphasized how "conservatives didn't play a role in this campaign."

Towards the end of the segment, Bozell highlighted how exit polls indicated that the U.S. is still a center-right country, and that because voters thought Obama was the fiscal conservative, "Barack Obama does not have the mandate to enact the left-wing agenda he wants to enact."

Interesting

But I don't think Mr. Bozell made the case that we are still where we've always been "conservatively".

Furthermore, his notion that the moderate "wing" of the Republican party has been smashed by this election just doesn't fly.  Which true conservatives were elected this go round?

We still have a whole bunch of RINO's out there, and we know what they'll do....collaborate.

I hope he's right that Obama has no mandate to enact his left-wing agenda, but I think he'll be just like Clinton, who endeavored to govern from the middle....but was driven left by the democrat congress-critters.

Barry's not going to be running the show....unfortunately, Nanny Pelosi is going to be the ring master.

call me a pessimist

but I am not certain if there are enough people that watch tv anymore that can grasp the 'big picture' in 3 minute interviews.  Especially when the person doing the interviewing doesnt appear to even get it.

In a sense I am pleased to see the Democrats finally and completely get their own way.  America needs a wake up call of the most desparate kind then perhaps they will be ready to listen.

I don't recall conservatives doing anything.

I don't recall conservatives doing anything this election. They didn't put up any strong candidates. They didn't get behind any candidate in a timely manner. They didn't raise any money to speak of. They were pretty much non-existent except to criticize what others were doing.

I don't know if conservatives' voice is being drowned out by the mainstream media, if conservatives are just lazy in regard to politics, or they don't have the intelligence to compete in modern politics. We have a lot of fault in this. If we try to pass off the responsibility, you might as well stick a fork into conservatism. It is ducking responsibility that lead the excess in congress that got "conservatives" voted out.

Perhaps its time to stop flipping off George Will and reclaim a respect for intelligence. Dumb ain't working.

Well

Let us make it clear, their is a difference between Republican and Conservative, I am a conservative, not a Republican,  Josh SN or whomever may be a Liberal and not a Democrat or you may be both, I don't know, I'm not judging, just commenting.  Most conservatives "did nothing" this election because the guy that was nominated was not a conservative, he has actually been a thorn in conservatives side since he entered congress.  The republicans who were voted out and lost their seats for the most part were not conservatives, those who kept their seats, Paul Ryan comes to mind, are "conservative" Republicans.

When Republicans run on a conservative message, and govern in the same way they win, ie Reagan in 80 and 84, and George HW Bush in 88, Bush JR in '04.  When Republicans run as moderates, they lose, Ford, Bush '92, McCain.  In my opinion George W Bush's low approval ratings since '04 are because he abandoned conservatives, liberals never liked him so it was simply the "other shoe dropping", when he abandoned conservative principals with out of control spending, immigration and the like, the conservatives turned away.  In the end, I voted for McCain, pretty much because he wasn't Obama, and he was more conservative than Obama, but thats really not saying much.

If the Republican party wants people to be energized and interested and get a movement going they need to stop nominating the next guy in line, please stop rehasing the same people every four years.  There are some great young conservative republicans in the party, lets start highlighting those people, Paul Ryan, Bobby Jindal, Michael Steele etc.

I  called Michael Steele's office today and asked what I could do to help out in his "quest" to become the head of the RNC.  Time for some new "blood" in the Republican party.

Yes I know

Republicans put up a candidate, put on a bad campaign and raised little money. Conservatives did absolutely NOTHING but complain. Did it work for you? Will it work next time?

No it won't

No it won't work next time either.  How do you know conservatives did absolutely nothing?  Did we make calls? Did we work on campaigns because we thought it was important to defeat Obama, even though we really didn't like McCain.  4 years ago after Bush won, I called wrote letters to the republican committee urging them to choose Michael Steele for republican chairman, when Ducan Hunter ran for President I supported him made calls etc.  The problem is I can make all the calls I want and write all the letters I want, I don't live in a primary state, I can't vote, I can make calls, thats about it.  If you keep putting up Bobby Milktoast you are not going to get the response from conservatives that would benefit you in a Presidential election.

Your plight shows the problem of no leadership

Your dilemma is a direct result of no leadership in the conservative *non* movement. Without a focal point, I don't know what you could do even on a grassroots level. Your plight is a great example of what happened during the Republican primaries. Conservatism is so individually defined ( rightly or wrongly) people identifying themselves as conservatives couldn't settle on a candidate! That is before Rush Limbaugh put a big old USDA purple stamp on Mitt Romney.

So is Rush the leader of the conservatives? Well if so, we are in trouble. Even Rush states he is primarily a broadcaster, and his only job is to hold the largest audience for the longest time as possible. He's not a political leader and anyone confusing him as one is making a huge mistake.

The one person I can see who has the intelligence and leadership ability to focus conservatism is Mike Huckabee. I really don't understand the calls for Palin and Jindal in 2012. We don't need exotic candidates. We need smart candidates.

Anyway, being overly antagonistic is not my goal. But I do want to create some heat. I am a little annoyed there is more pointing at external problems than the obvious problems of no leadership in the conservative wing of the GOP. In order to solve this problem, we need accountability, not finger pointing of external forces.

nwahs, fergit Huckabee

his shenanigans gave us McCain

Do you think the Flordia trick gave us McCain?

Huckabee didn't give us McCain. Lack of focus gave us McCain. People waiting for Thompson to arrive on a flaming chariot or for Reagan to crawl from the grave, gave us McCain.

nwahs, Hucksterbee and McCain worked in tandem

in West Virginia to keep Romney from winning.  Thick as thieves, McPain and Hucksterbee.

This election was lost in 2006

When the country found out that, even for the GOP, power corrupts and the House and Senate were for sale to the highest bidder.

Luckily through no action of the RNC the country is still center right. In order to be successful in 2010 and 2012, the RNC has to clean it's own house and for the good of the party bring in new leadership in order to convince the voters that it has returned to the Reagan values that led to the capture of both houses and the presidency.

 ""Barack Obama does not

""Barack Obama does not have the mandate to enact the left-wing agenda he wants to enact.""

Sure he does. Him winning gives him the mandate to do whatever he and congress want to do, and can get passed. We might not like it, and he may ultimately pay for it in 2012, but that doesn't mean he can't do what he wants.

Josh SN: "Obama is one of the smartest lawyers of his generation."

Ack!

Surely I meant to say Barack Obama was one of the smartest law students of his generation. I think David Boies, a Republican, is the smartest lawyer. I think he's pretty close to Obama in age. Close enough, anyway.

I think David Boies, a

I think David Boies, a Republican, is the smartest lawyer

Oh that is a riot joshie-pooh...did you not watch all of the cases, all of the procedures during the 2000 BS debacle when Gore lost that were presented daily on our screens...yeah Boies did a magnificent job...LMAO!

Besides that...if he is a repub...that is hilarious, it must be another case of RINO...matters not to me what you say regarding this piece of work...he is what he is...and he is no friend of real conservatives.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

Yes, I did watch

And David Boies impressed me, markedly. He is definitely a Republican, just not a fervent supporter of the Bible Belt.

I read an interview with him in a lawyer's magazine last month. His intelligence should hardly be questioned.

His intelligence should

His intelligence should hardly be questioned - and that is the stupidest statement from anyone ever.  We should look at and question all.  We should have standards to which to hold them to and compare them to.  But I guess that is why you are an Obamatron.

Personally I believe all lawyers have poor intelligence and should be taking dirt naps.  I have a poor esteem for them.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Barack Obama was one of

Barack Obama was one of the smartest law students of his generation.

Huh??  Says who? Prove it. Where are his essays, his transcripts. How did he get into college.  Where are his SATs. Who did he clerk for?

Show even the vaguest paper trail to back up your ludicrous claim.

If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same...
Yours is the earth and all that's in it...

Darn Right

Of course he does. Remember when Bush, with a considerably smaller victory in 2004, announced that he was going to spend some of that "political capital" he had supposedly won?

This whole conservative talking point about how Obama didn't really win a big victory and how he is somehow obligated to govern from the center is a talking point with no grounding in logic or reality. Rachel Maddow characterized it as the "audacity of mope."

I'm glad Obama won

But it wasn't a particularly large win.

Smaller than the average of the last 108 years, I read.

Geesh

I don't know Leo, but the rest are not the future of the Republican party.

The part about Reagan Republicans will take over this country reminds me of Chuang-Tzu and the story of the farmer and the rabbit.

George Walker claimed he had a mandate to do what he wanted in 2004, when he won the weakest 2nd term victory in our lifetimes.

McCain on Leno

That loser has a lot of nerve. I respect his service, but he started off on Palin-shifting the blame for his loss.

Go back and enjoy the fruits.

"voters thought Obama was

"voters thought Obama was the fiscal conservative"

Gore would have not put into this finacial mess and we wouldn't be involved in this war for the profit of large corporations in Iraq. By taking us out of this war think of the billions of dollars we will save!

No Randy he just

No Randy he just would have sold what was left of our missile technology to the chinese for some more campaign cash, and bankrupted the economy to save the spotted owl!

And the voters got suckered! What Obama is going to do is sign very expensive legislation that Nancy Pelosi writes, visit with foreign leaders, make good speeches, and in general look as presidential as possible.

  Iam,The voters were

Iam,The voters were suckered 8 years ago and 4 years ago to allow the most expensive legislation financially and morally ever for our near bankrupt country..

The world is happy for a president that is not a war monger  who was eager to spend our tax money on a war that was only profitable for the large oil corporations and the military industrial complex.

The voters made a choice in 2000 and 2004

The voters made a choice in 2000 and 2004. Just because they have buyers remorse doesn't absolve them of those choices. The reasons for our economic mess are complex and rooted in actions that occurred long before "W" was elected. Ask any reasonably well educated economist. And if you dare, follow the money trail from Wall Street and Fannie/Freddie to then senator Obama.

The world is happy today, let's see how happy it is in a year or two when they find out Barack isn't the Messiah after all but just a guy who wanted to be president.

C * H * A * T

Let's rant and rave and poke our heads out of the winding and scream from the top of our lungs, "We're evil, hate-filled, divisive right-wing neocons, and we're not gonna take it anymore!"

You're the next contestant on...
THE MESSIAH IS... LEFT !!
