CNN’s Cafferty Exposes Trouble in ‘Hillary Land’

NewsBusters.org - Media Research CenterLess than twenty minutes after Paul Begala appeared on Monday’s "The Situation Room" and defended the popularity of Hillary Clinton by comparing President Bush to venereal diseases, CNN’s Jack Cafferty highlighted some of the troubles in Hillary’s own campaign. Among these, a focus group of Democrats found that the former First Lady is "devious, calculating, and a divisive figure."

Cafferty, quoting from a piece by Bloomberg’s Albert Hunt, went on to say that the same focus group found that if Hillary won the presidential election, she would be "demanding, difficult, maybe even a little scary." Hunt’s piece also described some apparent "political strains" within the Hillary’s campaign, such as Bill Clinton "bouncing off the walls" at her campaign’s "ineptitude."

JACK CAFFERTY: Wolf, things are tense in Hillary Land these days. The headline on an interesting piece on Bloomberg that I read this morning by Albert Hunt, focuses on the situation in which Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton currently finds herself. It describes a focus group of Democrats in Philadelphia. After talking with participants, a Democratic pollster found concerns among the focus group about Clinton. These concerns included that she is devious, calculating, and a divisive figure in American politics. The focus group also said that as president, Clinton would be demanding, difficult, maybe even a little scary. These are Democrats.

Meanwhile, Clinton's once commanding lead over Barack Obama in Iowa and New Hampshire is evaporating. An average of polls taken in Iowa in mid to late November shows that Obama appears to be leading Clinton now in Iowa, 28 to 25 percent. In New Hampshire, an average of polls shows Clinton leading Obama by 10 points, but that's roughly half the lead she had earlier this fall. In the past 30 years, no candidate has lost both Iowa and New Hampshire and gone on to win the nomination.

The Bloomberg piece also suggests there are some political strains within Hillary's camp over, among other things, her greatest perceived asset, that would be her husband, President Bill Clinton. Top campaign officials apparently furious when the former president said a couple of weeks ago -- quoted as saying he had opposed the Iraq War from the beginning. And one close associate says that President Clinton is bouncing off the walls at Hillary's campaign's ineptitude over the last few weeks. There's even talk, apparently, according to this piece, of making some changes within the campaign. But that's risky this close to the Iowa caucuses.

The question we have then is this: With three-and-one-half weeks until the first votes are cast in Iowa, what should Hillary Clinton's campaign do to stop the bleeding? E-mail your thoughts to caffertyfile@CNN.com or go to CNN.com/caffertyfile. You know, this once was -- they didn't think twice about this last summer. They figured Hillary would cruise through these primaries and these caucuses, merely an inconvenient impediment on her way to the nomination. They're not sure at all that's going to happen anymore.

WOLF BLITZER: It was supposedly inevitable...

CAFFERTY: Yeah.

BLITZER: ...but it may still happen, but it's not necessarily inevitable.

CAFFERTY: It doesn't look like it at this point.

BLITZER: Jack, thanks very much.

Hillary:  If I've lost Jack

Hillary:  If I've lost Jack Cafferty, I've lost the country.

.

Hillary: If I've lost Jack Cafferty, I've lost my base.

Fixed.

Thanks ... Was paraphrasing

Thanks ... Was paraphrasing the whole Walter Cronkite thang ...

I know. :)

However ...

Does that mean if you have Jack Cafferty your base is

certifiably insane?

Yeah, I'm sure that has her

Yeah, I'm sure that has her down. LOL  But if she heard Rush's first story today, she would be furious! Explaining that the Dems want Huckabee to be the Rep. nominee, It had to do with a poll showing that he would lose to all three of the Dem biggies; HRC would take 55%, Obama, something like 52% and Edwards 60%!

Does anyone in their right mind think that Edwards could win 60% of the vote, even if the other candidate was Bullwinkle?

Makes you wonder about polls, doesn't it?

"a focus group of Democrats found that the former First Lady is "devious, calculating, and a divisive figure."

 And those were her supporters.

Maybe even Dems have their

Maybe even Dems have their limits on facing another 4 to 8 years of scandals.  They know very well Hillary will galvanize the Right like no other figure could and the worst part would be everything the Right would say about Hillary would be perfectly true and in context!

Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. dscott's corollary: The line between malice and stupidity is called depraved indifference.

Not all Democrats have

Not all Democrats have their heads in the sand (or another dark place).  In spite of the LibMedia hiding or downplaying Democrat scandals, the rank and file Dems know about Norman Hsu and illegal Chinese money going to the Hilldebeest's campaign.  They know about the dishwashers and waiters making minimum wages supposedly contributing $2500 to the Hillary campaign, and they don't like it. They see the stupidity of the Hillary campaign bringing up what Barak said in kindergarten.  (I would be willing to bet that during that year Barak also said he wanted to be an astronaut or doctor or fireman or policeman.  I don't know of any kid who sets a real occupational goal in kindergarten.)

Didn't a recent Zogby poll have Hillary losing against all of the top five Republican contenders in a head to head race?  The more Hillary opens her mouth, the more of her marginal voters are turned off by her, and either decide not to vote, or decide to vote for her opponent.  And, the more Hillary opens her mouth and screeches and cackles, the more the marginal Republican voters are energized to vote against her.  They might not be enamored by any of the Republican candidates, but decide any of them would be better than Hillary.

Campaign ineptitude

It's not "campaign ineptitude" that's got Bill bouncing off the wall. It's that he's watching America see Hillary as she truly is--something he's known all his adult life. They can't keep it a secret and all his blathering about what a wonderful gal he's got is not going over with the American people. The wheels are falling off the Hillary Express. HA!

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

HILLARY "ROTTEN" CLINTON

iveseenitall,

Your point is maybe her biggest problem, people will finally get to see what Hillary is all about. This is also why she only goes into HIGHLY CONTROLED interview settings. She needs her script because she sucks when she has a fluid situation.

I don't know, but it seems

I don't know, but it seems at times the media is so in love with Bill that they pander to Hillary when, in reality, they can't stand her guts. This is why the truth slips out every now and then.

Blood in the water --

and here come the sharks.

Blitzer's smart enough to put a smiley face at the end, though -- if Hill DOESN't lose, pieces like this one will come back to haunt them.

Bill going Bonkers because her loss is his loss

Bill is going bonkers because his wife is going to lose, and lose big. He understands that her loss is his loss as well. No more control over the Demo Nat'l Committee. No seat to the UN. No ability to fix his legacy. No way to exert any influence what so ever in the political process.

Further, this kind of loss makes her Senate seat vulnerable. New York isn't Massachusetts and Hilary is no Kennedy. If they think that she can't hold her own, they will find someone who can. Can you say Bloomberg?

Please go away

The Hillary campaign knows that her loss is also the end for all those clowns that surround her. Will any one ever listen to  Wolfsen, Podesta, McCaulliffe, Carville, and the rest of the clowns. These folks are on their last campaign. They know it.

If they lose they will have to become commentators for the alphabet networks,,so called experts. OH...sorry.. they already are.
