Ed Schultz: GOP Victory Will Be a 'Rebirth of the Birthers'

By Matt Hadro | November 02, 2010 | 21:21

A  A

Warning that victorious House Republicans may be conducting an investigation of the actual birthplace of President Obama, MSNBC's Ed Schultz called a possible GOP victory a "rebirth of the birthers."

"There is nothing good about losing the House," Schultz remarked Nov 1, on his Monday evening MSNBC show. "[House Republicans] may even be launching an investigation into the President's birthplace. It will be a rebirth of the 'birthers,'" he warned.

Schultz even went as far as to think the Republicans might try to impeach President Obama. "I think these radicals plan to impeach the President," he spat.

The House GOP will be all "about power and not governing," if they hold the majority, Schultz complained, ranting that "Michelle Bachmann wants to subpoena the entire administration."

A transcript of the segment, which aired on November 2 at 6:18 p.m. EDT, is as follows:

ED SCHULTZ: Well there is nothing good about losing the House. This is, as I've said all along on this program, about power and not governing if this is what happens. House Republicans are promising, what, subpoenas? They may even be launching an investigation into the President's birthplace. It will be a rebirth of the "birthers," I think. And I think they might go so far as to impeach President Obama. This is who they are.

(...)

I want to know why people keep saying that a Republican tidal wave of the House is a good thing. Michelle Bachmann wants to subpoena the entire administration. I think these radicals plan to impeach the President.

At the very least I believe

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Tue, 11/02/2010 - 9:37pm.

At the very least I believe congress should look at all the Presidents records to make sure he is elegible.  It is strange Shultz is worried about an investigation as it will surely exonerate the President ... right?

...believe his own baloney?  Seriously, does he?  They are cheering O'Donnell getting beat tonight, which is all they got.  Of course crazy larry is asking his typical moronic questions.   Tingles is actually being the most pragmatic of the bunch.  KO is be a sarcastic AHole.  As usual. This is a crushing defeat for Obama.

Schults is an idiot.

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 11/02/2010 - 9:46pm.

Lacking anything of substance to say, he decides to go with  the most outlandish accusations he can fabricate.

The likelihood of them happening is about equal to that of the president going on TV tomorrow and pledging to work with Republicans, and to possibly modify his agenda in light of what the results indicate the voters want.

There's no way on God's green

Submitted by Jer on Tue, 11/02/2010 - 9:48pm.

There's no way on God's green earth they'll commence a full-scale investigation into Obama's constitutional legitimacy--unless they wish to be viewed by the majority of Americans as a bunch of petty screwballs determined to become one-term wonders.

You're right . . .

. . . especially since he may have only two years left in office.

Their best bet is to have the House pass a repeal of the health care reform act  not once, but several times, forcing the Democratic Senate to reject it to protect Obama, but also putting them on record before the 2012  elections.

That's because the alternative -- letting the Senate pass it and then have Obama veto it -- may save some Dem Senate seats, but dooms Obama in 2012.

Jer at teh very least Obama could produce a valid BC.  I want them to ask him to produce one, publicly.  And if Obama refuses it will be halarious.

Well, Dan...

I started to explain that your suggestion would still not satisfy the "Obama illegitimacy" crowd.  But I noticed mattm's post down the thread and so no explanation is necessary.  But, if the new Republican wave has a death wish, then bring on the investigations.

Jer, I dont think it would be

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Wed, 11/03/2010 - 10:25pm.

Jer, I dont think it would be a death wish to ask Obama to open his court sealed records.  It would not have to be an investigation.  All that would be needed is for a congress critter to publicly ask Obama to open his records up to show all those birthers how wrong they are.  When obama refuses then he will have to explain why and the ball will naturally roll downhill.

And the big question is why doesn't Obama want to open his records?   Only criminals close up their records like he did.

Democrats opening records?...

Submitted by gfrrman on Wed, 11/03/2010 - 10:41pm.

You gotta be kidding me!!!  I'm STILL waiting for John "I was in Vietmam" (twice over gigilo) to open his medical records.  He DID say, "it was forthcoming" and that was many years ago.....well I'm STILL waiting, coward boy!!!  Teleprompter BOY will never acquiesce.  He's a bigger coward than John "I was in Vietnam" Kerry.

The key is getting Barry Boy

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Wed, 11/03/2010 - 10:48pm.

The key is getting Barry Boy on record one way or the other.  Either he opens them or he does not.  If he doesnt open them it is damning evidence and then a possible investigation and possible impeachment.  The President while being apart from congress is still susceptable to its "charms".

Either way the issue will be fixed.

..but remember that BjClinton did the same thing during his trial where, yes, he was impeached.  These d'bags have no shame.  I agree, like you, that Teleprompter BOY needs to be put on the record one way or the other like BjClinton and whether or not impeachment begins(I think it will be useless, especially with the media lapdogs covering every Dim move) at least the onus will be on him.

Clowns like this fool

claim to know who the "true" parents of all of the Palin kids are, yet they call someone else "birthers"??? The left are clowns to the nth. But, I don't mind being a birther, at all, if that means that I don't believe anyone who is honest spends a million $$$, plus, to hide his long form BC. Actually, I consider it a term of endearment. If 0bama, the clown, was born in the US, I would trade him for a hundred "hard working" ILLEGALS, who wanted to EARN American citizenship in a heart beat. At least they would be proud of their country. He could take his un-proud wife with him. And his kids. I doubt that they could be proud of his vision.

'Rebirth' of GOP

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 11/02/2010 - 10:58pm.

This is the party that was featured on the cover of TIME magazine with the title "Endangered Species" after the 2008 election.

But the GOP will have to demonstrate over the next two years that it understands what is happening in the grass roots and aligns with it vice try to corral it.

Recent history has shown that the GOP's senior leadership is arrogant and ignorant enough to fail to grasp the reality.  I'm not sure Boehner is up to it; he's a typical Beltway blowhard.  Paul Ryan would be the better Speaker.

Birther Schmirther

Submitted by mattm on Tue, 11/02/2010 - 10:56pm.

Being born on U.S. soil is not the only criterion for being a "natural born" citizen.  The parents have to be citizens also.   Obama's father was not a U.S. citizen at the time of his birth, so if this interpretation is correct, and I think it is,  it really doesn't matter where he was actually born, he's still inelligible for the office of the presidency.

McCain was ruled a "natural born" citizen because both his parents were U.S. Citizens;  A distinction Obama cannot claim.
