Zbig Brzezinski: 'Ignorant' Americans Susceptible to 'Simplistic Slogans'

By Mark Finkelstein | July 13, 2011 | 09:18

A  A

You mean, like the Americans who made president someone who two years before had been a state legislator and ran on "hope and change"?

Seriously, just who did Zbigniew Brzezinski have in mind when he said this on Morning Joe today?

"We have a large public that's very ignorant about world affairs, and very susceptible to simplistic slogans by candidates who appear out of nowhere, have no track record, but mouth appealing slogans."

View video after the jump.

Brzezinski repeated the notion a bit later: "We talked about the candidates earlier. It's amazing to me that some of the leading candidates are people who absolutely have no track record and have no serious ideas other than a lot of slogans."

Question: just what track record did Barack Obama have when he ran for president, beyond voting "present" 130 times in the Illinois State Senate?

Actually, he was Carter's National Security Adviser

Submitted by Galvanic on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 10:06am.

Brzezinski is another PhD who screwed things up in his government tenure, but is now celebrated as a wise old sage on foreign policy as if he brough about world peace.

He seems to appear only in friendly venues where no one raises questions about the Carter years and his impact. He got Iran wrong. He got Afghanistan wrong. And he got the Islamic world wrong.

Submitted by Gat New York on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 9:35am.

If I recall it was during Zbigniew Brzezinski's tenure that we had the most incoherent and inept foreign policy until Obama. How inept was Brzezinski to believe that kicking out the Shah of Iran and allowing the radical Muslims to take over Iran was sound policy? So Zbig who exactly is the lightweight here?

It looks like we found out

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 9:48am.

It looks like we found out what side of the family Mika gets her "brains" from.

We have a large public that's very ignorant about world affairs

I beg to disagree.  If anything the people in this country (especially those on the Right) are even more informed about what is going on in the world than ever before.  It is the libturds that prove time and time again to be the ones that follow the Pied Piper because of what they hear and not what is said.

"The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." President Ronald Reagan

Why are all these old Carter and Clinton hacks appearing on TV regularly? They can't (and shouldn't) be taken seriously, especially old goofballs such as Zbigniew Brzezinski. He and his boss wreaked havoc with our foreign policy and were the worst in this category until Ears & Co. showed up...

The beautiful part about being on the left in 2011 ....

Submitted by Kenyon Schraeder on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 9:51am.

... is that you never have to justify, quantify, qualify or support what you say with verifiable facts, especially to the faux "journalists" who are already on "the payroll". Truth be darned at all costs.

As long as what is being said discredits or maligns conservatives and/or their beliefs, and as long as it feathers the left's nest, it's considered warranted and tolerated, then embraced and preached as being "the truth".

Considering that the media, entertainment industry and educational system here in America all march solidly left, "the truth" is indeed a very rare commodity to come by. One must diligently and continually search for it among the piles of journalistic, entertainment, academic and political dung being deliberately tossed out in our midst each day.

Who's to blame?

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 11:46am.

"We have a large public that's very ignorant about world affairs, and very susceptible to simplistic slogans by candidates who appear out of nowhere, have no track record, but mouth appealing slogans."

If this is true, then who's to blame? It's the press, the journalists, that reduces everything to 15 second sound bites and 5 minute "analysis" of "world affairs," correct? It's the press, the journalists, who repeat campaign slogans incessantly, who minimize and simplify everything they report to fit into their allocated time slots. But, thanks to the internet and the vast stores information available to anyone with a connection, this is rapidly changing. More and more people are becoming more and more knowledgeable about domestic and global "affairs " despite of what I like to call "popcorn journalism," (ready to eat in five minutes or less), the kind your own daughter practices. So, take your condescending attitude, your personal 15 second analysis of the intelligence level of America in general elsewhere, you pompous jackass. Your opinions, and those of the journalists themselves, are of little consequence these days.

If it weren't for the 'ignorant' people who inhabit this country, and specifically Ronald Wilson Reagan (yeah, the guy who stomped your former boss' ass flat in the 1980 election), your erstwhile Polish comrades would still be living in slavery to the USSR, as neither you, nor Jihad Jimmy, had the foggiest idea how to do anything about it, other than kiss the asses of one fossilized Soviet premier after the other.

And if you don't like it here, comrade, then be my guest and get the F out, and take your spawn with you.

The difference

Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 07/14/2011 - 12:26pm.

Brzezinski is a naturalized American and an academian who prefers socialist agendas because he has never had to work under one; he is financially successful and set for life, so he can afford to pontificate about socialist programs.

Ask Polish nationals who suffered under years of Communism what they prefer, and they'll likely tell you it's capitalism.
