Morning Joe Lavishes Love On Kathleen Parker, Dumps On CNN

By Mark Finkelstein | March 08, 2011 | 08:59

A  A

All you need to know about why people on the right were dissatisfied with Kathleen Parker as the supposedly conservative counterweight to Eliot Spitzer on the pair's recently-canned CNN show was crystallized on Morning Joe today.  The panel unleashed an absolute gush-a-thon over Parker, Mika Brzezinski declaring her "one of my favorite people" and Willie Geist describing her as "a great writer."

For good measure, the MSNBC folks delighted in dumping on rival CNN.  Mike Barnicle took top trash-talking honors, claiming Parker had been "brutalized" at the network.

View video after the jump.

Watch the Morning Joe crowd shower Parker with accolades while pulverizing poor CNN.  Parker's name arose in the context of Mika displaying a column about "born-again feminism" Parker had written in the current Newsweek, edited by Morning Joe guest Tina Brown.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: One of your writers in the very first issue is one of my favorite people, Kathleen Parker, has a piece --

TINA BROWN: She has a great, great piece about how getting to know these women in the Middle East and what they're going through has really sort of re-energized her as a feminist, which is very interesting. The American feminist movement got a little stale or a little self-regarding. It's by learning more really about what these women are going through --

WILLIE GEIST: She's a great writer.

BRZEZINSKI: I can't wait to catch up with her. I'm so glad to see her emerging on a number of different fronts.  [Inaudible] she has her column.  We're trying to get her on the show.  I'm just, you know, I'm so glad that she's done with that [makes sound of disgust], that situation wherever she was before--at an unnamed network.

MIKE BARNICLE: She was brutalized by her professional experience.

BRZEZINSKI: She was.

BROWN: She was wearing her abaya on that show; it was pretty tough.

H/t to readers Andrew M. and Motherbelt for helping me hear "abaya," a burka-like gown.

Parker is far

from being a conservative.  She wears the label, but doesn't bother to defend that label.  CINO comes to mind.  Just another way to decharacterize a true conservative from the lefty efforts of CNN and pMSNBC.

comraderie of faux conservatives

Submitted by thescoots on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 9:18am.

Neither Kathleen Parker nor Joe Scarborough are conservatives...both claim to be. Yet, when have you ever heard them defend a conservative?  Both have Palin Derangement Syndrome...both spend all of their time predicting the demise of Rebublicanism....yet they expect anyone to take them seriously with that designer-conservative schtick they are selling? They are both counterfeits who serve the interests of the left for money. Its all about the benjamins, as usual.

Scarborough was quasi-useful as a Republican congressman...but apparently, he didn't have the stomach for defending the Constitution. Kathleen Parker has made a pretty good living hitching a free ride on conservatives by pretending to be one in order to write her phony tripe about them. Both are shills....hired hacks. No wonder they are supporting each other....they are both phonys.

DON'T ASKE ME, to weep for

Submitted by buddyc on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 9:28am.

DON'T ASKE ME, to weep for thee, Kathleen Parker.

You sold your integrity for money for pretenting to be a republican, when you are not one.  On top of that you took money for giving legitimacy to a sexual pervert who dumped all over a faithful wife and family.  I hope the money was worth it.

Frankly, you deserved much worse.

Kathleen Parker sold herself in order to make Spitzer's transition from "Client #9" to a journalist.  In Texas, we have "ladies" like her.  We call them hookers.

I think she said "she was wearing her abaya on that show."

As in Muslim garb.

Meaning she was being subservient to Spitzer???

Thanks, MB.  Reader Andrew M. also emailed me with 'abaya', and that's surely right.   Just short of going full-burka ;-)

I'm trying to figure out what

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 9:42am.

I'm trying to figure out what she meant by that.

she must have meant that Parker was being too self-effacing. Because she couldn't possibly have meant she was allowing them to treat her with disdain, the way Muslims treat their women, could she???

Nah.  She wouldn't say that. ;-)

Parker - so smart, so

Submitted by Van Halen on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 9:50am.

Parker - so smart, so lavished with awards from fellow Liberals, so with the 'in' crowd. Yet she couldn't hold her own on a worthless little show with no ratings. What did she do for her side? Picked up a few checks, bashed Palin, split when the going got tough.
Palin, on the other hand, stood strong under relentless and unwarranted attacks from the Left. Was instrumental in getting us an 800+ seat win last November. Ran all over the country bringing in millions of dollars for generally good Conservative candidates. Brought Conservatism back into the national dialogue. Stood up to Obama and forced him to go on defense. And was generally a pain in the @ss to the Left. Oh, and she got no awards. And she's still going.

Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 11:04am.

. . . Parker is what the Left consider "conservatives" and not "Far Right Wing" nutjobs.

Morning Joe's cast celebrates her in the wake of her burning crash on CNN because they need her to be their 'rational' conservative.

In actuality, the show failed because it was hosted by a disgraced liberal ex-governor and another liberal.  Real conservatives need not tune in.

Neither One

Parker and "Joe" are anything but conservatives, neither one should be referred to as such or call themselves that in any way.

OK, so now we know she'll be the next ' go to girl ' filling in for errent nightly hosts. If all goes well, she'll have her own gig as a Fall replacement for whomever ( Chris / Ed ) melts down first. Well good for her.

Speaking of CNN & Spitzer....

Submitted by Blonde on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 11:48am.

...has anyone seen ED Hill on this show yet?

Because I recall her as a pretty fiery conservative, and I wonder how well she'll sit still and let Spitzer spew spittling liberalisms, while trying to walk all over her as he did with Parker.  Of course, Hill may be desperate for a job and toe the line.  I'm curious (obviously not curious enough to watch, oops).

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Tue, 03/08/2011 - 12:04pm.

Hill, unlike Parker is actually an all American conservative. She will be the perfect foil for the narcissistic, know it all Spitzer. One thing ED is incapable of doing is keeping her mouth shut, especially in this sort of made for her programming that pits 3  pig headed liberals against one conservative. She'll clean they're collective clocks, no matter how management feels about it.

I used to read this beyatchs column in my liberal paper-Asbury Park DePress-and couldnt believe the spew coming forth from her pen-first about Pres Bush, then it was Gov and VP candidate Palin, THEN I find out shes considered a"conservative"- WTF? Stopped reading any semblance of anything with her name attached, then she comes on CNN with that show, which of course I never watched, except clips on here! What a whiny awful sounding voice! And not too easy on the eyes, either! Good riddens to bad rubbish!
