MSNBC SOTU Promo Omits GOP Presidents

By Mark Finkelstein | January 13, 2011 | 10:17

A  A

Guess MSNBC missed the part of Pres. Obama's Tucson speech decrying the way our politics have become "so sharply polarized" . . .

During today's Morning Joe, MSNBC aired a promo for PBO's impending State of the Union that featured video from previous SOTU speeches. Notably missing were any clips from past Republican presidents. Instead we were treated to a montage of JFK, LBJ, Clinton, Obama and even Jimmy Carter.  Think Ronald Reagan, or W just a few months after 9-11, might have said something inspirational in their SOTUs?  Not in the mind of MSNBC.

View video after the jump.

What does it say about the intensity of MSNBC's partisanship, and its view of its own audience, that it doesn't dare besmirch its promo for what is meant to be a solemn national moment  with even a fleeting image of an ee-vil Republican?

This is the MSM equivalent of Kremlinology, in which disfavored figures were erased from the historical record.

Perhaps his being a Jew hater helped.

The Ass Clown didn't say

Submitted by Barack_must_go..... on Thu, 01/13/2011 - 10:50am.

The Ass Clown didn't say anything about overtly racist or bigoted commercials.

The funny thing is MSNBC's rabid left wing viewers arrested development precludes them from noticing anything wrong with this shameful propaganda display.

Call Me Paranoid

Submitted by Gothampc on Thu, 01/13/2011 - 11:03am.

It sort of makes you wonder what the media already knows about the State of the Union.  Is Obama going to announce that he has decided to reimplement the Fairness Doctrine by Executive Order?

Obama's Rottweilers

Submitted by MidAmerica on Thu, 01/13/2011 - 11:20am.

Yep, it will be interesting to see obama's juggling act as he tries his version of Clinton's triagulation trick.  However Clinton didn't have the rabid Left-Wingers that obama has unleashed onto the political scene.  Now in order to save his job oabama has to appeal to normal Americans without being savaged by the  'Dogs of Hell'.

They are putting up sandbags.

They are losing their minds over there.

That network is definitely going into bunker mode. It would probably be easier to sneak onto a plane than to get to the third floor of their building.    By the time the SOTU address rolls around Chris Matthews will be wearing a helmet and a kevlar vest during his show.  I bet Keith Olbermann has a security detail that would make the Prime Minister of Iraq jealous. I also bet that both of them have to take pills to go to sleep.

Keith probably even has someone to taste his food before he eats.

Personally, I'm surprised...

Submitted by falcon on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 12:51pm.

...that someone hasn't tried to take out Olbermann or Matthews yet.

There are probably plenty of disgruntled MSNBC staffers at 30 Rock. Or women that the mysogynist Olbermann has encountered.

Heck, I bet Dan Patrick would be encouraged, since ratings for Football Night in America are in the crapper, even though pal Keefie is no longer there. (Then again, all of NBC's ratings are swirling around the bowl.)

When Comcast takes over NBC Universal (which hopefully will happen soon), I look for a wholesale house-cleaning. I wouldn't be surprised if MSNBC was shuttered, and in its place - Universal Sports! (Hey, why not? It's already on a lot of NBC O&O subchannels.)

Microsoft pulled its investment out of that mess a while back. Time for Comcast to do the merciful thing and pull the plug, not only on MSNBC but also on "NBC Nightly News" and "Meet the Press" (the longest-running news program in TV history, but sometimes advanced age can lead to dementia, dontchaknow). News these days is what is referred to as a "loss leader" anyway (kind of like an oil change at Jiffy Lube), so Comcast should cut its losses and do away with NBC News as an organization. The other networks will soon follow suit, because network news is fast becoming irrelevant.

PULL THE PEACOCK'S PLUG!

“I will not stand by and watch this great country destroy itself under mediocre leadership, that drifts from one crisis to the next, eroding our national will and purpose.” – Ronald Reagan, July 17, 1980.

Hey Seashell is "Lean Forward" anything like "Bend Over"  ? seams to me that a taxpayer has to do that everytime a Democrat is elected somewhere.

I only saw a partial of the clip but noticed there were NO Republican Presidents featured.  Not that we need further proof but we all know where MSNBC stands.

Can't you guys get the story straight?

Submitted by TheHistorian on Thu, 01/13/2011 - 7:19pm.

MSNBC is just hyping Jimman Carter's second term.  Or is it Bill Clinton's third term?  Or maybe the worst of both?  THAT is why only Democrat Presidents.

Let's face it; the Republican Presidents have been head and shoulders above those two and Obama.  To put them into the same advertisement would be denigrating (no, that is NOT a variation of the n****** word to you partially-educated liberals).

“Liberals tend to put the onus of your success on society and conservatives on you and your family.”

Dennis Prager

Maybe they weren't being bias...

Submitted by superdough on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 12:16pm.

Maybe they could only find "tomorrow" quotes from Dems.  Typically Democrats in power have "today" so screwed up, all they have to offer is a flowery speech about "tomorrow".
