If there's a bigger sourpuss in Congress than Barney Frank, I wouldn't want to meet him. On MSNBC this evening, the dyspeptic Member from Massachusetts got into it with, of all people, Ed Schultz. You might think the two libs would make beautiful progressive music together, but what made this spat especially entertaining was that Barney found himself being attacked . . . from the left.

The topic was the billions in bonuses awarded by Wall Street firms that had received TARP money. Schultz's beef was that Congress blew it by awarding TARP dough without obtaining advance agreement limiting bonus payouts.

Barney's basic response was that any excessive compensation could be recaptured via taxation.

Dispute details aside, sit back and enjoy as two libs lambaste each other.

Kinda makes you wonder who else he'd like to recapture taxes on, right? Obviously, he thinks its completely within the parameters of the constitution to resolve personal grievances, enact personal vendettas, and pilfer funds from people he doesnt agree with.

Frank is the #1 reason we are in this mess now. He wanted to give EVERYONE a mortgage when he knew they couldn't afford it. The housing market collasped and the economy followed.

Well, that was an oddly entertaining interlude. I hold Barney Frankincense responsible for making the housing bubble possible and for protecting the bubblers where it was expanding, and then for demonizing Wall Street and others (except Franklin "Cooking up more bonuses" Raines, one of the protecteds). But you gotta give him props for being smart, knowledgeable about tax and fiscal policies, and not reticent about mixing it up in an adversarial exchange.

You just don't expect that to happen with Ed "I hope my face doesnt' freeze like this" Schultz.

Schultz is an a**hole, and Barney may even like him for that, but he's an overbearing, dense, unthinking, stoopid one-note-Johnny, and Barney made Schultzy look like the boor he is.
