Dionne: Don't Let Paying For It 'Get In Way' Of Nationalizing Health Care

I don't take Ed Schultz too seriously. So when he says again tonight, as he did in the inaugural episode of his MSNBC show, that he wants national health care and doesn't care how much it costs, it's just so much noise.

But, at least in theory, E.J. Dionne, Jr. is a serious player, a card-carrying member of the liberal establishment. So when the WaPo columnist declares that he doesn't want nationalized health care stopped by the mere issue of figuring out how to pay for it, that gets my attention.

Incredibly, that's precisely what Dionne did on this evening's Ed Show.

E.J. DIONNE, JR.: You know what's frustrating about this to me, is that we go to war in Iraq. No one says we've got to figure out in advance how to pay for it. We have this huge tax cut for the wealthy under Pres. Bush, no one says, oh, we've got to worry about the deficit. But when you put health care on the table, when you say, we want to cover 50 million people without health insurance, suddenly everybody is a fiscal conservative. And I think what that is is a battering ram to kill health care reform.

Now I think you should pay for it. I think we should figure out how to make it budget-neutral [translation: let's raise taxes!] But we can't let this argument about paying for it get in the way of getting the thing done.

Talking Points

So this is the new line from the left. Now it doesn't matter what it costs. The end justifies the means. Typically ignorant talk from the "liberals" in America. At what point will they be stopped?

NEVER,NEVER trust a 'liberal"

The ends always justify the

The ends always justify the means with Socialist thinking.  Next time you're in discussion with a liberal who is in love with the stimulus package, ask them if they would have been FOR it if it was $50 trillion?  Or use any massive number, see what they say.  I'll bet it's still "yes" unless they're actually thinking a bit.

Re: The ends

Here's a big part of the problem, –people are so poorly educated that they don't know what a trillion is. They probably think that because the Bamster announced a budget cut of 200 million dollars that he is a big budget cutter.

Poll: How many millions are in a trillion: http://econ4u.org/blog/?p=587

The new line goes along

The new line goes along with the old line of "It's what America wants".

But I don't think this health care thing is going to go thru. Obama has, I think, reached his limit. Not only Americans are complaining about the drunken spending -- but now his communist pals, the Chinese, are also. And they're threating him with the dollar. People are beginning to pay attention. This venture is toast.

Liberals constantly demand that we accept a glaring falsehood as truth; Obama's elimination of the word "terror" will make terrorist acts less terrifying

But you're

But you're forgetting...Obama wants the Dollar to fail. He needs economic collapse to take place in order to "remake" this country in his image.

The Dangers of Barack Hussein Obama

Make no mistake about it - his actions and their consequences are deliberate...and there is a goal to be achieved. That goal was blatantly obvious to many of us long before the election. Obama has no intention to be fiscally responsible or adhere to the Constitution. To him, those are just right-wing "trigger-words."

The dollar and Sinophobia

Your trendy, way cool, shrieking Sinophobia aside...and that is REALLY starting to irritate me here...

Do you seriously believe His Majesty The Shahinshah CARES?  Do you THINK He wants the dollar to be a reserve currency?  HELL NO HE DOESN'T!  Why?  Because IT'S NOT FAIR to Him and His Socialist fellow travelers.

He uses two things....

He uses two things....

1)  defense of our nation (I know, some disagree with that but on Iraq, but that's not the point here) which is a Constitutional requirement of the federal government

2)  cutting the amount of income that government seizes from us, which gets the federal government a little bit off of our backs, as the Constitution is for OUR protection not government's amusement.

So he uses those two things in his rant on healthcare, to try and crap on those who are against government run healthcare, paid for by taking money from some to give to others.  The goverment already does TONS of that.

There is a difference, Mr. Dionne.  Pick different examples if you're going to make any semblence of sense.

My thoughts are

If one wants something, one should pay for it. Soooo..if the libtards want this so bad, they should anty up "their" money for it. Then, they could show the world how it is done, that their hearts and souls are in it. Sure between the Big OPRAH and Soros and H-wood elites, they could cover it. Hey, make yourself useful in life instead of just running your mouth.

BTW, I was in the 95% of Americans who got a tax cut under Bush. I have yet to get one under the Bamster.

You mean you didn't get your

You mean you didn't get your $13 a week check in the mail???

This dweeb is mimicking Obama

Obama said no more spending - except for healthcare.

Can anyone tell me if Obama and the Democrats can be stopped in their tracks from stealing our money, our futures, our children's futures? I don't mean by the next election, I mean by the law or by enough people signing a petition to have Obama impeached!

The media is to blame

The media, the press are the only ones who could stop this. Of course, they won't and there's the rub. The state-run media is denying its Constitutional responsibility to seek the truth and protect America's freedom. We are on the road to complete financial collapse and they just do not seem to care. Their ideology trumps all. Sad.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Yeah, WHERE IS MY TAX CUT? I

Yeah, WHERE IS MY TAX CUT? I thought we were supposed to start seeing them in April? I still haven't seen it reflected in my paycheck. Also, when are our Scrotumless republicans going to challenge these idiots on this "50 million uninsured" lie? It's 47 million according to the Census; 11 million of those are illegals. 15 million of them make more that 50k a year and can afford their own insurance. 15 million are young people between 18-35 who don't feel the need to purchase it. Where exactly is the health crisis?

"15 million are young

"15 million are young people between 18-35 who don't feel the need to purchase it."

Yet could afford it if they chose to. Folks in that age group can often get insurance for $75/month or less, which is probably less than their cell phone bill.

My wife and I just recently

My wife and I just recently graduated from college, but making just over $12 an hour at our jobs, with a baby on the way and we manage to pay $150 a month for her health insurance. Plenty of these people, even the illegal ones, could pay for health insurane EASILY if they wanted to.

Heck, average out the amount of money that people spend on cigarettes and beer every month and you could probably get health insurance for a whole family.

A penny for your thoughts

Folks in that age group can often get insurance for $75/month or less, which is probably less than their cell phone bill.  The difference being that I actually USE my cell phone.

Since I only visit a dentist twice a year, and that costs me about $150 a year, why should I pay $75 a month for something I do not use otherwise?  If I pay as I use it, I come out way ahead.

Say, there's a thought, you Leftist idiots (not you, ckc1227: the Leftist idiots out there who are doubtless reading this).  Instead of punishing me for being healthy, and stealing from me to coddle and baby people who never heard of the concept of (gulp!) budgeting, why not simply get the hell out of my way and leave me alone?  And if people NOT having a doctor so FILLS you with painful guilt and has you sobbing your way to sleep every single night...well, why not set up a CHARITY at your nearest hospital to pay for the medical bills for those who well and truly CANNOT afford it?

Re: a penny

The truth is, this is not about insurance, it's about transfer of wealth. The liberals and their grifter constituency base subset don't want insurance, they want free stuff. As affordable as you might make insurance, they don't want their people to have to pay anything for it. They don't want any copays or percentages. And they do want to extend this entire debate to dental care and mental health care, which is a financial black hole.

The illusion that the democratics and their allies in the liberal media have created is that there is some kind of crisis in health care. There isn't. Republicans have to go to people and ask them what they think of their own health care, in terms of quality and cost and availability, and not to believe the crisis propaganda.

The number of people that really do have a problem with health care is tiny, maybe 3% of our population. Destroying the entire system to remake it for that 3% is completely foolish.

POWER (and the lust for it)

It's not even a transfer of wealth thing to me either.  It's about POWER.  The Leftists in Congress and His Majesty The Shahinshah want to be worshipped as royalty in the days of old.  Congresscritters behave as if they are princes, and His Majesty The Shahinshah behaves as if he is a king (or a king of kings, hence "Shahinshah"), and demand to be treated as such.

If we have to assume the role of infants and toddlers as far too many in government want (and WAY TOO MANY VOTERS want), we'll all be bowing towards DC the way Muslims bow to Mecca.  This is what they want.

The number of people that really do have a problem with health care is tiny, maybe 3% of our population. Destroying the entire system to remake it for that 3% is completely foolish.  R D Helm has a GREAT tagline about this, and I have a similar thought.  It is as if I have a fly in my kitchen and I decide that instead of swatting it, I go and burn down my entire apartment complex to kill it.

If this health care issue

If this health care issue isn't stopped, it's over for this nation. The "Land of the Free" will be but a distant memory, as the government will have a direct line to controlling every aspect of your life. And with folks like Obama in charge, don't doubt for a second that they won't use it.

Help me with this argument I

Help me with this argument I am having with my wife; we barely get by from month to month, but I want a '64 Vette. Honey, let's not let paying for it get in the way of me driving a classic American automobile!

The argument over "national healthcare".......

The libs have essentially already won the fight over national socialist "healthcare".  Rather than arguing over the constitutionality of the federal government legislating funding for such programs (and in case you went to a public school, the 10th Amendment specifically forbids such federal spending), our elected representatives are now simply arguing over just exactly how massive the program should be.

Every member of every branch of the federal government took an oath upon entering office to uphold the US Constitution, including Article 1, Section 8 and the 10th Amendment.  Thus every federal office holder has a sworn obligation to stop this type of unconstitutional federal spending.  Failure to do so is a breach of that oath, and should rightly be seen as neglect of duty by a civil officer, which is an impeachable offense.  The oath of office demands, exclusively and above all else, that the official will support and defend the Constitution.

If members of the military can be imprisoned for similar (or even lesser) derelictions of sworn duties, then so should Congress.  In fact, elected office holders should be held to an even higher standard than military members, since their official powers enable them to inflict far worse damage to the citizens of this country.

Whenever any lib brings up the issue of national "health care", the only response from conservatives should be, "Please point out what part of the US Constitution authorizes federal spending for such a program".  Then they should simply shut-up and let their lib opponent proceed to embarrass themselves with their lack of knowledge on US civics.  After the lib runs out of breath, the question should then be calmly repeated.

It's time for conservatives to reframe these arguments in the terms that they should be debated- Constitutionality.  That would be an argument that the libs could never win.  At least as long as conservatives remain intellectually disciplined and don't allow libs to change the terms of debate.

"Fascism is rightly seen as the merger of the Corporation and Government." -B. Mussolini

It's over

I truly believe that the "liberals" no longer care about the Constitution. They are in power now and anything goes as far as they are concerned. Remember a few years back when the Dem legislators in Texas walked out to the room and refused to negotiate if they didn't get their way. Now it's come to the entire nation. "Liberals" are gone ---in our government,on t.v, in the press, in the universities, in your neighborhoods. In the past few decades, they've pushed the envelope and seen that basically there were no consequences for their words or their actions. Look at the financial "crisis"-- corruption, theft, monumental injustice for the comman person. Moreover, the press has the libs backs. I don't know where this will all end. But, guaranteed, it will not be pretty.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

Hi,BT...

For years I've thought that if this left-wing crap goes too far, we'll have a terrible backlash, a la Hitler. We are such a divided nation , something has got to give. And it will. I believe people are getting fed up very quickly now. If the right person comes along, watch out. Sad.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

"health insurance" is a debit card

And to add 55 million people will add 1 trillion more PER YEAR, to our already huge 2.5 trillion/yr bill.
That's why the smart people ask how we pay for it.
This isnt chump change, especially for a country ALREADY with a 2 trillion deficit.

and all of a sudden

we are diluged with messages of SLobamas fight to make certain we are all healthy, and have access to health care. Preventative measures like eating right and not smoking will become not only recommended, but required on a govt plan, I guess that the only people that this really applies to is those that are already born. I mean seriously this guy cannot really think we believe this crap? He does not give one drop of sweat from a rodents weddingtackle about the health of the average american, if he cared about the lives of all citizens, he would be fighting to stop abortions.

This move is all about govt control over ever aspect of our lives, what can we consume, what can we buy, what schools can we attend, who gets life saving medical attention,

Unfortunately, for the pain

Unfortunately, for the pain it will cause, the stock market is going to drive the failure of this initiative.  If you look at the 10 and 30 yr treasury auctions the last couple of weeks, you see tremendous spikes in interest rates.  As these two treasuries spike up in rates, it will ripple throughout the economy.  For example, we are already seeing the slowing of mortgage financing.  At some point, people will adandon the stock market as rates climb to the extent that one can make more money in bonds then in common stock.

As I write this, the market has been struggling.  For example, the party is over in finacials - a key industry that historically leads the market out of a recession - have been trading in a range for the last three weeks.  They lead the market to the downside today.

Meanwhile, commodities, of all types, are soaring.  Gold near $1000; oil over $70 and up over 60% since the beginning of the year; and copper up 50% since the beginning of the year.

Gasoline has spiked 50 cents in the last month and expect it to go up another 50 cents over the summer.  Meanwhile, Congress is scheming to raise gasoline taxes - by as much as another 50 cents.  Expect $3+ plus gasoline by the end of the summer.

Had enough, yet?  Dims - do you think you have made a BIG mistake?  Any "community organizers" out there for Republicans in the 2010 elections?

Hope you’re right.

The unemployed conservatives I know would sooner seek family help and/or ‘pound the pavement’ a little longer if a depressed stock market would SLOW DOWN the President and the Congress.

There is so much going on, I struggle to be on message…. when the Congress was slamming Porkulus, I called, faxed and emailed (where possible)… just trying to slow the train.  (Did the same thing during the recent California budget stalemate.)

But now do I fax a message about healthcare or card-check or cap-and-trade or Congressional Motors or bailing out California or the latest rush to seat another lib on the Supreme Court or abandoning our Allies or closing the border or what?  This is more than a two-front war.

I'm going to buy a house...

This is the kind of non-thinking that socialists indulge themselves in...so childlike.  The thrill of shopping should never be diminished by thinking about where the money comes from!

jd...I think the goal is 5 dollar a gallon gas.  This will be done under the guise of forcing the generation of "alternative energy sources..renewables" if they get popped doin' it, but will mainly aid in the crashing of the economy.  One must first destroy what's standing to build anew...to bring "fundamental change"...

Yes, let's not worry about

Yes, let's not worry about paying for things that cost money. God forbid we become responsible with the prosperity and liberty of our future generations.

Wait...isn't that how we got into many of these fiscal and economic disasters in the first place? Leave it up to the "progressives" and their accomplices in the media to push the hard-left line of "do-whatever-it-takes" to fundamentally alter our society - even if it means complete economic collapse. After all, that's their ultimate goal anyway. Good thing they have their guy in the White House, even if he isn't legit.

I'm hoping he just worded his comment wrong

because that comment was very idiotic.  Saying its OK to NOT be concerned about how things are going to be paid for is what lead us to the giant pit of debt that we are in now.  Using that thinking, I can go out and get that six figure car that I've always wanted and worry about those money details later.

Oh, yes.  The old "tax

Oh, yes.  The old "tax cuts for the 'rich', not irresponsible government spending created the deficit" canard.  How original and how ignorant.  Has anyone ever bothered to try and educate this moron on how cuts to the marginal tax rate actually generate greater tax revenues to the Treasury?  E.J. Dionne and his ilk freely parade their stupidity on television because nobody in Washington is courageous enough to corner them on their ignorance.  Instead of educating the populace on policy, the Republican Party is too busy serving snacks to "undecideds" and watching them illustrate how little they know from behind two-way mirrors.  When you hear the phrase "the debate is over on this issue" uttered by a Republican, you must conclude that our Beltway Republicans have failed to even try to inform voters of the superiority of Party principles and have instead conceded the issue and set a new threshhold for debate on the "how best to solve this 'crisis'" terms.  That's lazy.  That's cowardly.  That's regressive.  That's unacceptable.

Somewhere, John Gault is furiously penning his speech

Face it, folks, nationalized health care is inevitable. There are just too many government-educated, People Magazine reading idiots among us who firmly believe they have a right to health care.

They have absolutely no problem whatsoever with using the police powers of the federal government to force others to give up part of their lives in order to pay for their care, either.

Nor do they care if it bankrupts and already bankrupt nation.

Nationalize Legal Services

I see all of these lawyer/politicians spouting how great nationalized healthcare would be.  I have a better idea:

Let's establish the Department of Social Justice and bring all of the lawyers under a system similar to Medicare.  After all, legal represention is required by the consititution not medical care.

Set a stardard fee schedule for all legal services to be administered by the Legal Services Fees Administration (LSFA).

Anytime you need a lawyer, social justice insurance will pay the legal fees minus a co-pay.
