Luke to GOP: Go Left

Perhaps Luke Russert should drop his NBC gig as youth-vote specialist and become a full-time Republican consultant.  The son of the late Meet The Press host didn't hesitate this evening to share his advice to the GOP, which can be summarized in two words: go left.

The 23-year old Russert dropped his pearls of electoral wisdom while chatting with the hard-working Mika Brzezinski, guest-hosting for David Gregory on this evening's 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue after co-anchoring Morning Joe at the crack of dawn.

View video here.
LUKE RUSSERT: I just think that as a whole the party should really take a cue from what's going on across the pond with David Cameron and the Conservative party in the U.K. David Cameron has made the Conservative party hip and trendy.  He has sort of told the party to come back from the hard-core issues like abortion and gay marriage and more care about sort of poverty and stuff like Darfur, and I really think that's the generation, generational approach that is needed for the Republicans now.
An unsurprising suggestion from the fellow who famously said that University of Virginia students tended to favor Obama since they were the smartest kids in the state.

Anyhow, the Republicans might want to get cracking on a big televised event.  Call it "Sort-of-Poverty-and-Stuff-Like-Darfur Aid." Co-sponsored with Planned Parenthood, perhaps.

Stunt Political Commentary!

With all due sympathy for his loss, why in the heck should anyone listen to a kid who's sole qualification for political "expertise" is that his late father was a prominent interviewer and commentator - after retiring as a political hack? This is just necromantic nepotism.

I have to say I'm a little

I have to say I'm a little confused as to how he is suddenly someone to listen to or who has a unique insight. Great if he deserves the attention, but...does he?

Like I said Balboa, it's

Like I said Balboa, it's necromantic (the conjuring of the dead)nepotism. It's stunt news at it's worst. It's not like he's bringing a fresh take on events - his "commentary" has the whiff of moth balls about it.

I guess I could understand

I guess I could understand if he was presenting "youth" take, but...still. Luke has vaulted to the forefront for no great reason.

But I liked his dad. And if Luke accomplishes more, someday he'll be worthy of such a spotlight.

Ya, well, the left has kinda

Ya, well, the left has kinda thrown out the whole "being accomplished before being in the spotlight" thing now haven't they?

Just look at our president elect as proof of that.

“I've spoken to all of them that are living.  I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances"

B.H. Obama

I have to say

I am a little on balboa's side on this one. Luke Russert? Why did we not hear from him BEFORE his dad died?  (Russert has kids?)

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Oh for crying out

Oh for crying out loud!!

Do ANY of these talking heads, pundits, or "consultants"  ever have ANY  advice for Republicans other than "be more like Democrats?"

John McCain tried that. Look where it got him.

I don't suppose Luke would ever suggest that as the winning party, Obama and the Democrats should try to "reach out" to Rep..

Oh, forget it.

Oh come now...the apple

Oh come now...the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

I can't help it...I'm laughing, the wisdom of msnbc putting on a kid who knows nothing yet about the real world telling another party he will never belong to anytime soon, if ever, how they should proceed...

Talk about audicity.

Darfur

There is nothing wrong with helping Darfur. We need to put a boot in the UNs butt to get them going. Also there isnt anything wrong with helping those in poverty.Wasnt there a poll showing Conservatives gave more than Liberals to charity? So is that being leftist? What about school vouchers?Isnt that helping kids of low income getting a better chance in life via a private school? If you look at McCain/Palin contributions to charity compared to Obama/Biden there is a large difference. So was that wrong?

Hi w99... Put a boot in

Hi w99...

Put a boot in the UNs butt...heck, we should be out of the dirty filthy UN, we pay tax-dollars to evil dictators who want to destroy us...adn I am not going to go into all the other reasons why I detest the UN that I have posted over the years...

Like a lot of things, some may have started with good intentions, but look what happens with time.

Just my two cents.

By the way...I agree about your other points.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

BT

I agree but if we still are giving them money. They should earn it.Personaly they should kick the UN out of the states. An the US should get out of it.I even have a good location for the new UN.Rwanda that way every day they can see their failure.

I've been saying the same thing for I don't know how long

Rwanda is a great suggestion.

I'm afraid we're all going

I'm afraid we're all going to be bitterly disappointed regarding the UN during the Obama regime. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave the UN General Secretary a seat at the cabinet table.

well99

you are kind of all over the place on the this...but on the subject of cons being more charitable than libs...yep it is absolutely true and fairly significant.  i can find the stats if it is important.  but that is one of the divides between self empowerment and govt empowerment.  that is one of the reasons why lefties don't mind, in fact encourage, higher taxes.  let the govt take more of our money but trust them to do our good deeds for us.  it is "i am the govt" vs "the govt is me".

porpoise

There are training programs out there. As far as raiseing taxes no way.The goverment has worse accountability than Fanny Mae.When you have clowns like Franks and Dodds still working instead of wearing prison clothing. What I was saying was conservs do help those in poverty and it doesnt make them leftist.Liberals are about spending money.Everyone elses.

"Luke to GOP: Go

"Luke to GOP: Go Left"

GOP to Luke: Go to Bed

???

Go Left when obama ran on campaign themes that were almost to the Right of McCain?  Run Left and you will lose almost anywhere.  Even democrats don't run there.

Obama Grandma

I know this question doesn't quite fit the subject of the post, but has anybody heard anything about Obama's grandmothers funeral?  Did they have one?  Did Obama attend?  Seems like he's been in the mainland the whole time since her unfortunate death.  What gives???

service to be held friday

per the Hawaii News

"Funeral home manager Jerry Andrade said the family will not attend Friday’s memorial, but they gave the mortuary approval to hold a public service.

“We’re helping the family,” Andrade said. “It’s a time for the people of Hawaii to pay tribute to Mrs. Dunham and to share memories.”

Obama is expected to return to Hawaii next month for a private service"

member of the Conservative Independant Witness Protection Program since Nov. 5, 2008

I guess...

he doesn't want to be seen at the memorial service of a "typical white woman".  I know that is cold-blooded; but for crying out loud!  Why not show up at his grandmother's funeral?  The last influence in his life; the woman who loved and took care of him unconditionally.  That is so disrespectful.

“I've spoken to all of them that are living.  I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances" B.H. Obama

Obama's granny is of no

Obama's granny is of no political use to him now, except to vote for him again in 4 years.

Just think of all the other

Just think of all the other folks he's dumped as soon as they stopped being useful to him. Why shouldn't grandma be one of them?

Bunch of crap

When my paternal Grandmother and Grandfather died, ALL 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchilden was on hand.  I was on the road within 24 hours of all my grandparents death.  And I wasn't "raised" by them.  I think the U.S. President-elect was too busy planning his coronation to pay respects.

TM... I heard somewhere

TM...

I heard somewhere today he is supposed to attend a memorial for her sometime in Dec....most likely after he has to answer to the SCOTUS (Souter) by sometime in early Dec. about his birth certificate...that's my take on it...rather convenient if you ask me...but heck, I can think conspiracy along with the best of them.

Isn't going to matter is seems... no matter what.

Had Luke and his Journalist

Had Luke and his Journalist friends done their job, they would be in hiding right now after such a landside GOP victory!!!

And yet I remain unmoved

Despite his steady effort, Tim Russert's kid has still not made a convincing case for nepotism.

Fail.

Hey Luke, why don't you go

Hey Luke, why don't you go to hell? How about that. You will never be the person your dad was. You are just another "winner of life's lottery" who never had to work a day in his life to achieve anything. I hope Obama's tax plan kicks you in your pompous, privledged ass.

You support the troops by supporting the mission! If you don't support the mission, have the guts to say you don't support the troops.

Obama: Not my President. Ever.

Just what we need, another

Just what we need, another elitist that wants us to pay for his "Causes".

"Journalism" by Luke

This, of course, is what's wrong with "journalism" today. Immature, illogical, inexperienced, not ready for the job they have. That's also what is wrong with Barry. We are in deep soup, folks.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

This kid is getting himself

This kid is getting himself known and building a base, political office run next.

Thanks for the advice

Did the Democrats stop supporting abortion when they lost? Besides, once you give up your principles for the sake of power, what's the point? These people will do anything to protect abortion.

I'm sick and tired of all these "re-evaluations" of conservativism, especially by people who aren't conservative.

Apparently his mentor

Apparently his mentor is....Tom Brokaw!

If I wanted Luke Russert's opinion

I would beat it out of him.  I'm sorry for his father's loss but the appropriate time for respectful mourning ends when his kid starts running his mouth.  I don't listen to ANY lib's opinions.  Ever.

That must make you a well-rounded person...

I don't think responding to a question on a show constitutes "running his mouth." It wasn't much of a rant, either.

and his mean less than nothing to me.  As I have told you before, you bore me.

If the GOP goes any further left, they will be the '96 dims.

Luke, I respected your dad, but you are nothing but a nose-picking, booger-eating, bed-wetting liberal snot-nosed punk.

Up yours. :-)

Did this country just elect Obama/Biden, or was it Soros/Ayers?

Well said R D...

...but you forgot "milktoast pansy"

Tim was an over rated wind bag...

...and having his kid on network news is downright insulting. If I want an opinion from the likes of him I'll ask the kid at the McDonalds drive thru... and stuff...

Luke, do you homework

Luke, do your homework.  The 70's have passed.  These days Republicans who shift to the left tend to lose.  Also, no matter how much you minimize them, there is a significant slice of the electorate who think abortion and gay marriage (along with other social issues) are very important and who will come out in large numbers to vote for a candidate who shares their views wholeheartedly.

Welcome to the era of unity, you racist!

Poor Luke... The only

Poor Luke...

The only time I want to see more going left is on a NASCAR Track.

The GOP lost big time in the last 2 elections. Why? Because Republicans started acting like Democrats!

Heck, instead of moving to

Heck, instead of moving to the left, why not just disband the Republican party altogether and everyone join the Democrat party instead? I mean, really, if we have to become Democrats to win, do we need two parties?

By the way, didn't gay marriage go down(no pun intended) in 3 states this election, including California, bringing the total to about 30 states that have banned gay marriage? And surely he isn't suggesting military action in Darfur. They haven't attacked us, have they?

ckc... There is NOTHING

ckc...

There is NOTHING on this wonderful planet that would ever make me consider calling myself a Democrat. Geeeez, just the thought gives me the creeps!

Hmmm… we had the same

Hmmm… we had the same politics/age issue at our place today.

The 23-yr-old student daughter showed up today for a visit (needed money).  She alluded to her positive Obama feelings and negative Palin feelings.  I noted that we may as well help out with her teaching credential tuition money now….. because our stock market investments are headed in a direction that will be dramatically reducing her eventual inheritance from mom and dad.

That news clearly gave her less joy than the big O victory.

Luke Russert is just another pampered youth.  Just another wasted political opinion.

Luke - Use the FORCE LUke!

Hey dumbass,  When I want the advice of a pimple faced moron I'll ask someone other than you.

Your dad may have been a great man, but you're just a spoiled a$$hole who wants to be loved by the Washington elite club of Liberals!

You're a Democrat so leave us alone to save the Country that you and Barack are going to screw up over the next few years!

CHSVS

I have asked you before to avoid vulgar language.  You are on the road to be banned.

Dear Luke,

Stop talking.

What is that saying.......better to keep your mouth shut than to open it and remove all doubt?

How much farther left?

Despite the fact that he called himself a conservative, we just nominated and ran someone who is essentially a moderate Democrat for President. How much farther to the left does he expect us to go?

And why should we even care about the opinion of someone who was sitting in a classroom 6 months ago? I doubt he's even figured out yet that his Marxist college professors were lying to him.

Luke, your Dad was beloved

Luke, your Dad was beloved by both Dems and Repubs because he did not interject his political leanings into his interviews.  I knew he was a democrat because of his past, but he kept it underwraps.  If you want to be truly respected by all, you might want to follow suit.

He still has his head up his

He still has his head up his professors. There is no light at the end of the tunnel yet.

He said GOP should be "more hip" not move Left

Whoa, hold on Newsbusters.  I read the headline, and then watched the video. Thought the guy was going to say something like the GOP should come out in favor of socialized health care, or more government intervention in the economy.

All he said was that the GOP should be "more hip" and cool.  Nothing wrong with that!  We libertarian Republicans have been saying this for years.

Come on conservatives.  We do most certainly need to "hip-ize" the GOP.  That doesn't mean signing on to Global Warming nonsense, or Protect the Polar Bears.  It means running more Sarah Palin/Michael Steele-like candidates who can appeal to a broader base of voters.

And, reaching out to libertarians.  Let's remember the GOP ticket just lost 500,000 votes to Libertarian Bob Barr.

Eric Dondero, Publisher

Libertarian Republican blog

C'mon eric

The "go left" was not a direct quote but a generalisation of the meaning of the article. I for one do not want to become "hip" or "cool". I do not want to wear pants four sizes too big, listen to vulgar rap, smoke pot, see my nieces wearing street corner clothes, Approve of homosexuality, become anti-christian, or become a socialist jew hater.  Bob Barr gift wrapped 500,000 votes and gave them to Hussein Obama against the wishes of the GOP.

Eric

You must have been watching a different video.  Didn't you see Luke say the GOP should emulate the UK conservatives and "come back from the hard-core issues like abortion and gay marriage and more care about sort of poverty and stuff like Darfur."

"Care more about sort of poverty"?  Come on, Eric, surely as a libertarian you know that's code for more government programs.

And "stuff like Darfur"?  Those are the foreign entanglements libertarians want to avoid.

That's his advice? Been there, done that.

Other than holding the line on taxes and Islamic Fascism, Bush was no more "conservative" than Bill Clinton.  Instead we got "No Child Left Behind", another Medicare entitlement, out of control spending, massive government intrusion into the private sector and our lives, and other such nonsense.

McCain wasn't any better, voting against drilling in ANWR, supporting Illegal Alien Amnesty, Anthroprogenic "Global Warming" and "Cap and Trade", and that massive abortion against free speech that made him the media darling before being predictably thrown under the bus for Obama, McCain-Fiengold.

Sorry Luke, we really don't need your MSM compliant advice.  If America wants liberals, socialists, and Marxist, there are already plenty to choose from within the Democratic Party.  What the GOP needs is the next Ronald Reagan.  The GOP needs to remember that few have been fired for being "too conservative".  Yeah, they won't be getting as much love from media types like you, but as history has shown, we really don't need it.

I complained about Luke's

I complained about Luke's financial dealings with James Carville.  It was a clear violation of the stated Ethics adopted by media "journalists" and commentators.  Luke got a couple hundred thousand dollars as a college student only because they wanted to buy influence with his dad.  He had nothing else to offer.  I was told that it was a stretch.  It isn't.    The kid was still depending for support from his parents.

Luke Russert is a partisan hack just like his father.
