This week, this week, we found out that the presumptive nominee of the Republican party will be Senator John McCain [scattered boos in the audience.] Now, I believe John McCain is a good man and a genuine American hero. And we honor his half-century of service to this nation.
Subtle, Barack, subtle. Look for Obama to try to help McCain up onto the debating platform and pull out his chair.

Forget The Age Swipe - Obama Just Lost The November Election
February 10, 2008 - 02:59 ET by zeestephenFor those who didn't watch Obama's "victory" speech, it was the Socialist-Dove opposite of Goldwater's speech at the GOP Convention in 1964.
Universal health care, retreat from Iraq, greedy insurance and drug companies, tax increases for the wealthy, free college for public service. He spelled out in explicit and exuberant detail every Socialist goodie anyone has ever dreamed of.
Obama clinched the Dem nomination tonight.
Unlike Goldwater, Obama is likeable and not threatening. Also, a large segment of American society yearns to believe that a half white leftist is really an all black centrist.
Consequently, the election will be close and hard fought.
But, the sound bites from tonight's speech will dog Obama for the next nine months, and he will lose the general election.

One more time so we all understand: That's why the media wanted John McCain to be the Republican candidate. Because he's so easy to defeat.

Don't be so sure that has doomed him. I agree with RD...it has more likely made him a shoo-in. The country is becoming more socialist by the week... more and more people want the government to provide for them.
Neal Boortz has the Democrats pegged: they will simply shift the near totality of taxes onto the minority considered "wealthy." That way they the majority will continue to vote in representatives who promise tax increases to fund the programs, since they (the majority) won't be paying them. They will create a defeat-proof socialist Congress.

Obama proves how inept he really is
February 10, 2008 - 01:41 ET by Lame CherryThere is one scare issue which goes across all races and gender. Obama just hit it in the whining wheezers and greedy geezers.
There is nothing that pisses off old people than to be told they are worthless and put out to pasture. There is NOTHING that gets former beauty queens and he studs attention faster than hitting 40 and being told by juveniles scared of adults "they are too old to talk to".
So Obama just stuck a pointed stick into the wound of old age that includes what is most of the people who vote aged 40 and above.
Sure he doesn't have to worry about it now as the old bags are voting for Hillary, but when he hits the general election all those old people are going to not be voting for him if he keeps this up as he pulls a "clinton".
Mondale and Carter both tried pulling this crap on Reagan and he put it to bed then. Geezers make good presidents.......certainly better than penis Clinton did.
Right now the Democratic ranks are filled with these boobish children who staked it all on Al Gore at age 18.........now they are 26. Kerry had Mellencamp and Bon Jovi promise the same thing to now 22 years olds. None of them will fall for the old geezer McCain garbage except the nitwit 18 year olds now who are about as dependable at voting as keeping a promise to wear condoms.
Insulting 40 million voters who are black, white, brown, red who exist in the terrifying issue of dying, being sick and having their crapper liberal children tell them they are too old and need to be put into a home so they can get their hands on the money.........is proof that Obama is just inept.
There are 2 issues John McCain is vulnerable on.
1. He is crazy
a. Nuts from being tortured
b. Loonie as he showed in Saturday Night Live
2. He is a temper tantrum
a. He holds grudges against people who beat him
b. He picks fights for the sake of being a prick
That is how you hit McCain as he is undependable in keeping his word, backstabs his own people and do you really want this wacko with his finger on an atomic bomb.
I'm not telling the DNC Soros boys anything they already do not know. I state it here to thank all those dolts who voted for McCain and to all those Newsbuster folks now jumping in lock step in "we must now support McCain".
THIS IS WHY IT IS VITAL that John McCain be pressured to put Lynn Cheney on the ticket for Vice President and hint at Fred Thompson as Sec. of State. He MUST SHOW the world he can make sound decisions and surround himself with sound people to ward off the real attacks showing him nuts and angry.
Obama probably just signed his indictment as the cartel is not about to let this boob brain gain the general election as he will be generating a GOP landslide by turning off the geezers.
For those who forgot, Howard Dean is still running around the DNC and I read that if no one is chosen within the next few months he will hold a meeting AND PICK A CANDIDATE.
The DNC is already signalling a draft candidate and Obama is proving how bone head he is.

McCain should thank Mr Obama for his kind remarks in noting he has been serving for longer than Mr Obama has been alive.

Uh, folks, that line may sell around NB...
February 10, 2008 - 06:45 ET by sarcasmoBut so did Fred Thompson's candidacy, and we all saw how that went elsewhere...
Let's face it, you don't get to the tippy-top of Harvard's Law Review heirarchy without being on the extreme edge of Charles Murray's "Bell Curve*." There are many good reasons to vote against Obama, but a crappy resume' isn't one of 'em. I'd bet this guy's resume' could get him insta-sinecures at various soft-shoe law firms in all 50 states. I can't defend his positions, but his resume' is pretty damn good, IMO.
Do I wish Obama had more diverse job experience with employers outside academia & big government? Sure -- I've said "he's a black George McGovern" because of McGovern's post-political experience of trying to open up a retirement bed & breakfast. But that kind of esoteric political-geeky stuff, which may matter to people like us, isn't likely to sway the average US voter in the least.

Esoteric? I don't think
February 10, 2008 - 07:03 ET by Jack BauerEsoteric? I don't think so.
As lawyers always say in court-- the defendent opened the door when he blah blah..
If one theme of an Obama candidacy is McCain OLD, him YOUNG, then I think McCain's campaign is going to jump all over what Mr Obama has achieved in his 44 years (which is really middle age not young.)
And as this thread is about Obama already mentioning McCain's age tangentially, then it already is a major theme.
That's not an esoteric point. McCain's age is going to be a major issue against Obama ... not Clinton.
Or, at least, it will be unless he hits it out the park in a way I describe. Or do you disagree?
I don't think McCain's age will be that-much of an issue
February 10, 2008 - 07:25 ET by sarcasmoBut I obviously feel the same way about Obama's resume'! My own guy's candidacy is/was living proof that even a very-old guy can attract a LOT of youth-energy, but McCain's not too attractive to young people for some reason. I suspect it's because ideas matter to young people a hell of a lot more than hidebound political parties, and McCain's not exactly a new idea compared to Obama.
That's why I sincerely-doubt McCain's going to hit it anywhere-near out of the park. I'm just glad Paul's NOT running 3rd party, as he just said. That means when McCain doesn't-win, he can't blame a strong 3rd party run for what will be his own RINO-failure. If, like you, I had the legal ability to put my own money on it, I'd bet on Obama to win it all at this point, but who knows what tomorrow will bring?
JMR
PS My reference to "esoteric" was the "George McGovern opens a B&B" stuff almost-nobody knows about. I wish I could find an online copy of George's actual WSJ article, instead of just the Reason article which references it. In short, McGovernite rules basically killed George McGovern's own dream-retirement, and he wrote very well about it.
More people need to see that article, especially young Democrats!

February 10, 2008 - 07:27 ET by motherbeltJack, it's not so much his lack of experience that troubles me, (although that may be the cause of what does trouble me about him); it's his lack of a foundation in reality. There. I said it.
He thinks life is like Star Trek, The Next Generation. I love to watch that show, to see the "magic." No one gets paid, but that doesn't matter because they never pay for anything....they go shopping and just say "Have it sent to my quarters".....and the Captain says things like "Poverty was eliminated a hundred years ago" and "We've gone beyond the need for wealth."
That's what Obama sounds like, to me.
They may have gone beyond the need for wealth
February 10, 2008 - 07:34 ET by sarcasmoBut without Firengi bartender capitalists they'd have had 0 plots. ;) As I said above, Obama needs to have a "George McGovern's B&B" experience, where dozens of his own rules prevented him from doing what he wanted most to do. Sadly, if experience is any guide, this kind of thing happens far too late in their political lives for it to do individual Democrats or their party much good.
