Merry Christmas to all our NB community!
Politico is having some snarky fun, running a "populist pop quiz" challenging readers to guess whether it was John Edwards or Mike Huckabee who made the variety of class-warfare claims listed. You'll find a sampling of four of the questions below, but I'd encourage people to take the entire eight-question quiz and report back your scores. A cyber-statue of Karl Marx to the winner!
1. “No young person is more equal than another person because he has a higher IQ, or a higher net worth, or because he lives in a nicer home, or his clothes have a label of a designer that the other guy doesn’t have. That’s not what gives us equality.”2. “There is unfortunately some disconnect between people who have never struggled and those for whom everyday life is a struggle.”
3. “The richest people in America are getting richer. The big corporations’ profits are going through the roof. What is happening to the middle class? What is happening to working people in this country?”
4. “Is it still possible that this country will elect a president not because he had the most money but because he really did represent the most of the ordinary Americans in this nation who understand what it’s like to live to work to try to raise a family? And for many Americans, it’s working with no net underneath us.”

December 25, 2007 - 09:45 ET by motherbeltMerry Christmas!
I got 2 right, but it was a crap shoot. Missed the bonus too...I guess I was remembering Edwards and Wendy's...LOL.
Just goes to show you not that Huckabee is trying to milk the "two Americas" theme too, but that all politicians, I think, try to portray themselves as the champion of the little guy. They try to out-sympathize and out-pander each other.
Merry Christmas!
December 25, 2007 - 09:52 ET by sockmonkeyI'm really surprised I only got 6 right. I must be slipping.
We had our Christmas celebration yesterday....but I must say, Chinese food sounds pretty good about now.

December 25, 2007 - 10:01 ET by Senior ChiefNo political insights today, just want greet you all a Merry ChristMAS (Master, Advocate & Savior) and may the Good Lord bless and keep us all in the coming year.
To my fellow warriors in the cold desert of Iraq and Afghanistan and the waters around and about the Middle East, and to their families and loved ones...Merry, Merry Christmas!
3!
December 25, 2007 - 10:39 ET by dervishBut I only felt sure about #1 being Huck's, since it was a non sequitur. The others were all coin flips.
Maybe the boys can form a third-party ticket if the primaries don't go their way.
5
December 25, 2007 - 10:43 ET by UphillBut only because I guessed Huckabee for all of them.
Merry Christmas!

December 25, 2007 - 10:47 ET by dervishBrilliant!
8!
December 25, 2007 - 11:24 ET by OldSailor88That's because I just said "Yes" to each one. Those two would make a formidable ticket for the independents!
Silk and Hucky! Hucky and Silk! We're not POTUS and VP! We run for ONE AMERICA. We'll even have two desks in the Oval Office! Silk and Hucky! Hucky and Silk!
Post of the day! Anybody
December 25, 2007 - 12:41 ET by Gary P JacksonPost of the day!
Anybody but Huck!
I got it
December 25, 2007 - 13:24 ET by JoelCTI doubt anyone will believe me, but there is a distinct difference between the two, so I got all eight. I got the bonus wrong. The distinct difference is the words of a down-home farm boy talking stuff he doesn't fully believe in, and an elitist pretending that he gives a darn about people well below his social status. Think about that distinct difference, and go back to the test, and it will be as plain as the nose on your face.
Plus I watch a lot of C-Span and I have seen these two in all their BS-ing glory. They DO sound alike when they start talking about the rich and the "bad" corporations, I will admit.
I don't post much to this blog, but I love reading everyone's words of wisdom. The intelligence and good cheer of everyone here always brightens my day, so I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas today!
I declare JoelCT the winner!
December 25, 2007 - 14:48 ET by Mark FinkelsteinGood going, Joel, and thanks for your interesting insights on the differences between the two.
As promised, here's your award, a cyber-statue of Karl Marx!
Ah, man! That cyber-bust
December 25, 2007 - 15:37 ET by sockmonkeyAh, man! That cyber-bust was going to be my "major award!" I guess I'll have to be satisfied with my Rice-a-Roni parting gift....
Eight
December 25, 2007 - 15:55 ET by scamoramaAnd it wasn't all that difficult.
The Huckabee quotes reference equality; not class warfare. With that distinction, the Edwards posings leap out.
Read them again with that in mind.
