It's been a rough day for Hillary. First, as noted here, she was drummed from pillar to post on ABC's "This Week." NewsBuster Noel Sheppard then detailed here how Chris Matthews' crew raked her over the coals. Now, completing Hillary's troika of tribulation, the CBS Evening News has gotten into the act.
The development being reported was ostensibly positive for Hillary: the Des Moines Register today endorsed her. If CBS had stopped there, it would have been a plus for the Clinton campaign. But unfortunately for Hillary . . . the Evening News decided to play clips of Clinton on the stump in Iowa.
First came Hillary at her platitudinous worst, somberly informing the crowd that "the road to the White House for the next president begins here in Iowa." I'm guessing Hawkeye State caucus-goers didn't need that pointed out to them.
But it got much -- much -- worse. Words can't express just how stilted Hillary was in a subsequent clip. Just when Clinton should have been at her most Comeback-Kid ebullient, Hillary exuded all the joie de vivre of an undertaker in a cold December rain.
I was especially honored by the endorsement this morning of my candidacy by the Des Moines Register. It was an important event in this process, and I am [excruciating pause] very grateful.
View it here and try to imagine, in contrast with Hillary's downer of a delivery, how Bill would have played the same good news.
Can a presidential candidate so lacking in the basic tools of the politician's trade be successful? Well, Richard Nixon, ever shy on the stump, was elected twice. Even so . . .

Hillary is taking a dive
December 16, 2007 - 21:24 ET by Lame CherryNone of this just "happens". No candidate just looks that bad without doing so on purpose.
I have maintained that the cartel has given Hillary the boot for Al Gore. Bill is sabotaging his chance to be first tutu and with Hillary literally insulting Iowa by acting like the Register was akin to being named Christian of the year........even Hillary Clinton is taking a dive.
I blogged earlier this summer that the Democrats were feeding Republican intelligence operatives (Yes ex CIA agents) information on the Clintons and I believed it was video of sexcapades about to be unleashed next summer when she gets close to the nomination.
It just "did not happen" that the stories were spreading weeks ago about Hillary nailing her own co cutie on her campaign. Those types of shots across the bow are planted to send the message, "We have something Hillary and you know what it is and it will sink you".
Hillary is taking a dive and this is all over. Her base is geezer women and there is no geezer female vote in democrats who will accept Hillary the lezbo as that is another generation.
This coup has been played perfect. She lost the black vote, she has lost the Kos wacko vote, she has lost the male vote. The only thing she has left is geezer chics and they will rattle faster than Bill with his pants down.
Hillary did this deliberately today and great job in Newsbusters catching it as everyone in Iowa saw this slap and it happened on purpose.
Hillary is taking a dive.

December 16, 2007 - 22:11 ET by Del Dolemonte"No candidate just looks that bad without doing so on purpose."
I disagree-the ONLY people who have previously had to see Ms. Hilly campaign have been the voters of New York State, and even then she was always asked scripted questions, etc. She never had a serious opponent (if Rudy hadn't been diagnosed with cancer and dropped out, she never would have won in the first place).
Nothing against the people of New York, as I used to live in NYC, but for her to think that she could win nationally using the same template is sheer insanity.
Fact is, the more and more she exposes herself to the American public, the more and more they see that she's no Bill. She's bland, boring, and not very likable.
I'm with you, Del. I don't
December 17, 2007 - 08:20 ET by motherbeltI'm with you, Del. I don't think she's doing this on purpose. In that video she looks just plain tired. It's a big effort for her to act chirpy and bubbly and enthusiastic, which IS an act for her. And when she's tired, she can't do that, and she goes into her default mode, which is "pedantic." That's why the stilted delivery, with the Algore-type pauses between words. It's sort of "I'll say this real slow, so you'll know I really mean it."
You can see her working hard at the body language thing too. She used to just look down then up and left, down, then up and right, to look at both sides of the audience. Now she is actually turning her whole body left and right, sort of going the "look at everyone" approach (that most speakers use) one better.
What that means, I don't know. I just enjoy watching her, because every move she makes seems to be scripted and acted out, instead of natural. It almost seems like she was given gestures etc. (by Bill maybe?) and practices them in front of a mirror.

I don't think anyone should count out Her Royal Clintoness. For example, did anyone ever doubt the Des Moines Register would endorse her??? It was a foregone conclusion. I doubt anyone in her campaign was on pins and needles waiting. And In the end, all the other newspapeers will too. They will cavil and quibble over minor stuff, to act like parents who are not blind to their kid's faults, and to show that they really gave it a lot of thought. But in the end, they will line up behind her, because she's their girl. Always has been.

December 17, 2007 - 09:28 ET by BeowulfI think she/it is just plain PISSED at how her royal court (the LSM) has been treating her/it over the last month. She/it and Slick have had their way with the elite media for decades, been given passes and had excuses made for them, had incidents that would put most people in jail overlooked, and been coddled as the royal couple for so long, she thought it was a foregone conclusion that the LSM as a whole was still in her pocket (along with Willie's 'nads). Now, all of a sudden, they're all turning on her/it. And if earlier posts are accurate, she/it knows they have some serious dirt on her/it that will both kill and bury her campaign later in the game. She/it is probably in a state of shock. She/it looked in the video like someone who is interviewed right after a train wreck. Which is what her/it's campaign is quickly turning into...

Difficult to parse
December 17, 2007 - 00:44 ET by celatorI'm having a tough time parsing Hillary's apparent meltdown (I'm not yet convinced it's what it looks like on the surface).
Here'e what's running through my alleged brain re her floundering ship:
1. It's a fake pass--an illusion they are creating for whatever reason. 2. She and Billy really ticked off some very, very high up donors and they have put the word out--"take her out, politically". 3. A mutiny has occured within her already testy staff, and they are virtually running around in circles, unable to help her recover. 4. She ticked off the media (Russert et al), and this is payback time. 5. She never had much real support in the first place. 6. Some agreement has been made that she could be the D nominee's VP if she concedes the top slot because internal polls --which we never see publically-- indicate she cannot win the top slot. It seems clear she will just never overcome her extraordinarily high negatives. 7. All of the above and all the reasons others have postulated on NB as well ;+}. A perfect storm, perhaps?
Who knows? But it is interesting to watch.

Will the Dems shoot themselves in the foot again?
December 16, 2007 - 22:09 ET by pbthinkerI've been against the front-loading of the primaries since the last Presidential election. I don't believe Kerry would have been nominated, had the process been extended a couple of months. Now, the Democrats have further front-loaded them and the results could be just as disastrous. Personally, I don't care since, IMHO, none of their candidates are going to get my vote anyway. It would be nice, however, to be forced to actually think about it, in 2008. If Obama wins Iowa and, he's perceived to have the momentum, there won't be enough time to ask him the tough questions, he's sucessfully avoided so far, before he has enough votes to secure the nomination. Those tough questions, however, will not be avoidable in the general election. That's what happened to Kerry and the same thing will probably happen to Obama.
Democrats: Specializing in "high tech lynching" since 1987.
I am against this whole run
December 16, 2007 - 22:47 ET by Right2thePointI am against this whole run up process like it is now in any event.
One modest size state and another small one that is very left leaning and it is supposed to wean the field.
Many have had a chance to meet up close and personal the candidates in a manner that the rest of the country could only think about.
What qualifies them to be the arbiter of how the candidates are weeded out.
It would make more sense to substitute larger states which are closely balanced to be the proving ground for the candidates.
After the first two contests are done, the much larger balance of the country will only have whistlestop visits and will have to rely more on their own personal research to make their choices.
Most will cast their vote without having ever seen or heard any of the candidates in person at all.
Something is basically flawed with that whole arrangement.

Where on this site has anyone with NB ever said that every news organization and every reporter for the MSM was simply a Clinton apologist?

They would quite rather have a black than a woman president. It will make them feel SOOO much better about how the country has finally atoned for its sins of neglecting minorities. And if the truth be known, they'd rather not have to deal with the Liar-in-Chief for another eight years. They KNOW that William J(ackoff) Clinton would actually be running the show in the WH anyway.
They should be careful however, and may actually get with they wish for: B. Hussein Obama as Dem. nominee. Bill is so accustomed to making others 'go down' it will be refreshing to see him go down (with Hillary) instead. Along came a cowboy actor and shot them out of the saddle. They got one leg up during the 90's and got shot off again.
