Predictable: Katy Perry’s Patriotic Video Draws Lefty Ire
Some on the left have noted a disturbing trend – despite their best efforts, people keep seeing the U.S. military as admirable. When Seal Team 6 killed Osama Bin Laden on the orders of a liberal Democrat commander in chief, lefties had to endure the nation’s celebration of the special ops warriors. Then “Act of Valor” his theaters last month, and a variety of liberal outlets branded the heroic film as propaganda.
And now singer Katy Perry – who, as an entertainer, should know better – has made a video celebrating the training and commitment of U.S. Marines.
The Huffington Post reported that left-wing feminist activist Naomi Wolf pronounced Perry’s new “Part of Me” Perry’s video a “"glorification of violence" on her Facebook page, and called for the American public to boycott Perry’s music.
“It is a total piece of propaganda for the Marines ... I really want to find out if she was paid by them for making it ... It is truly shameful,” Wolf wrote.
It’s no surprise that Wolf entered the trenches for the liberal media’s war against the military. She is a self-proclaimed anti-patriot who shills for Occupy Wall Street and once proposed that Al-Jazeera should be allowed to penetrate the American market.
Even the liberal Huffington Post seemed surprised by Wolf’s reaction. “It seems fairly obvious that the video is supposed to suggest female empowerment, and joining the Marines is supposed to show that Perry isn't broken just because heart is.”
But to Wolf, female empowerment isn’t legitimate unless it also serves anti-Americanism.

I suppose"... but if they think we aren't, these roaches come out from under the virtual fridge to spread their contempt..... I'm not really a Perry fan, thought her stuff was talented, a bit strange, but in a harmless gee that's kinda cute way.. This certainly isn't a bad move on her part,... makes me rethink my previous opinion of her.
She may be an old fashioned classic liberal, Perry I mean, but I served with several.. and while I would never vote as they did, they were patriots too.. in the old Sam Nunn Scoop Jackson JFK mold.
Now, if only she can drag the rest of the bubble heads in Hollywood back to seeing all Americans as good decent people, instead of the enemy as Hollywood now treats us.. so Perry did ok..

This is the most blatant piece of military propaganda I have ever seen. The only thing missing from this trifling video would be her killing a stereotype holding an orphanage hostage. Talk about jumping the shark.
To glorify wars of conquest and not show the harsh realities are completely irresponsible. The premise of a bumper sticker convincing anyone to join the military is absurd. This video should have shown children being blown up with landmines or young men being ambushed by their Afghan “allies” in police uniforms. Or a nation at war cheering on a football game while completely ignorant of the fact that a generation of the bravest men and women are being killed, crippled, and blinded in a third world nation for ten years now.

Henry, the fact you are writing your opinion in English and are exercising your rights to free speech by criticizing the military without any repercussions shows the value and purpose of the US military. They have done their job well so you can have these freedoms.

At the age of 62, you may be surprised that I even know who she is. Shocker! I like some of her music. I'll listen more closely to it now. I don't care if she was paid or not; I do care that she cared enough to be a part of it. Have some gone so deeply into the trash pit as to call for a boycott because someone took part in a what I see as a patriotic video? This is so sad. My disdain for this sort of video is for precisely the opposite reason as those who call it propagandistic. I think it's rather disrespectful, regardless of her intention, for a wealthy pop singer to don the uniform and symbols of the military and play out this weird antiseptic fantasy version of war. Not at all unlike the guys who feel like they're experiencing what it's like to go to war when they play Modern Warfare from the comfort of their recliner for hours on end. Gotta love a hyper-realistic simulation of wartime experience during which you're lying prostrate, eating Doritos, and plowing through a six-pack.
If Perry honestly feels she's paying tribute with this video, more power to her. I just find it a little unsettling.

I don't find it disrespectful at all. Had she mocked the Corps, or spoke derisively about it like the idiot Clay, above, that would be disrespectful. Instead, I thought it helped to highlight the extraordinary sacrifices made not only by young men in this country, but by the country's greatest women as well. Much of what was filmed was likely from Boot Camp since that's the only place women Marines receive formal combat/infantry training. And, contrary to what you may believe, the Corps isn't a video game and Marines are trained in the most realistic environments possible so the antiseptic version of war about which you speak is misplaced.
Also, the video wouldn't have been made without the cooperation of the Corps. I'm sure they were happy for the press, and happier still to show off some of the bright, brave young women who make the sacrifice and earn the title. I'm sure it'll be viewed as a great recruiting tool.

My thought about Perry's video was that it seemed to whitewash the gritty realities of military training and service. My thought about games like Modern Warfare is that they present a realistic enough (relative to video games, at least) version of battle that guys can feel as though they're experiencing the "real thing" without ever getting off of their asses.
As for Wolf, whom I have never heard of, if she's the new spokeswoman for liberalism, I did not get the memo.
