I was afraid that WaPo might try to hamstring him. There are different work places that object to certain beliefs, even if they have no business objecting them. My work place is like that. I have to watch how I talk around certain people.(like the secretary down the hall who thinks Algore rocks, even after everything)

Then here you come, Georgia Girl, and haul me back down to earth by saying I'm going to work for the Washington Post! The only think more stinging would have been to say I was going to the NYT! Couldn't you have sent me to Fox News or something? I could use some hanging out time with the staff at that place after work! The only place I've seen with more good looking, long legged, shapely blonds is Key West, and Fox has the advantage since all of theirs are actually female!

Anyone notice how looong Queen Nancy's "goodbye" was?

Her farewell speech almost became a one woman pep rally, and ran longer that Boehner's brief and humble speech. I knew she wouldn't be able to get off the stage without pulling something...It's been a VERY long 4 years, and thank heavens she's no longer Speaker...Good riddance.

Britt Hume noted that in his commentary tonight. It was a riot, he mentioned that her outgoing speech was longer than Beohner's, and she congratulated herself on the accomplishments of the last Congress, that resulted in her losing Speaker of the House. He noted she seemed to forget that it wasn't about her. Loved the commentary.

As I watched 'ol Nancy's congratulation-fest, I couldn't help but be amazed at her unrelenting gall and ego...It ain't about you, Nancy!...Not anymore. Still, despite the colossal beating her Dems in the House got in November, largely because of her and her misguided leadership and blindness and deafness to the wishes of the people, she just couldn't resist taking a victory lap today...Unbelieveable.

It could be construed as a nice thing to do, or, as you suggested, as a way to rob Boehner of the chance to introduce his wife and daughters himself first. It's hard to say what was in her mind when she did this, but I wouldn't put it past her if she meant it as a way to steal Boehner's thunder. Whatever the case, as you said, good riddance.

Yep, it was long all right. The only "up" side was that I felt like it might have actually helped Boehner transition from his (rightly so) emotional walk up the aisle. Toward the end of her blather fest, I saw Boehner starting to shift his legs, and it looked like an impatient look flickered across his face. That's when I felt like he was a lot more ready to speak.

That said, it was not a classy move on Nancy's part, and it was so nice to see Boehner with the gavel...FINALLY.

I also noticed Boehner's seeming impatience with Queen Nancy's long winded long goodbye...I don't blame him one bit...I'm sure many were thinking and feeling the same thing. I was also not surprised that she did what she did. I expected her to do and/or say something with her one last big moment in the spotlight, egotistical bs artist that she is.

You're right on target by saying that Pelosi's "performance" may actually have boosted Boehner's brief, classy and humble speech...The two addresses couldn't have been more different, and provided a perfect contrast to each other, and highlighted the stark personal differences between Pelosi and Boehner. You have to wonder if when Pelosi finally handed the gavel to him that, for just a fleeting moment, Boehner may have been sorely tempted to give her a good whack on the head with it...lol! I know...I'm terrible! ;-)

I was thinking about this Pelosi cartoon video that SoL posted recently (really funny) of Pelosi clearing out her office...and a new idea for a video popped into my head: Pelosi refusing to let go of the gavel and going into a "whack a mole" frenzy as everyone charges at her to get that thing away from her...then her throwing down on the floor in a fit, screaming the "you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands" line, as she's dragged off by security.
