For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Sarkozy reportedly thinks Obama is "incredibly naive and grossly egotistical."

Will this affect the West's response to Iran?

Damn, hell must have frozen

Damn, hell must have frozen over since I am in total agreement with a French leader.

Obama is egotistical hence the cult of personality approach to all problems and he is AMAZINGLY Naive hence his belief that just the force of his personality and his words can ameliorate any situation.

What a horrid combination.

Sarkozy was elected as a

Sarkozy was elected as a conservative (by French standards) so this isn't that surprising.  Besides, it's so obvious that Obama is both naive and egotistical that even your average Frenchman couldn't help but notice.

The average Frenchman

The average Frenchman couldn't help but notice -- but our MSM, members of Congress, and liberal class is still having difficulty enountering the truth. Viva la France!

Further fright

As scary as that is - and I concur! - I keep in mind that Nicolas Sarkozy gave a more pro-American speech in front of Congress than His Majesty The Shahinshah gave before the UN!

Yeah, and if you only read

Yeah, and if you only read transcripts of speeches during that 48 hour period it would be obvious that the real president of the US is --- Benjamin Netanyahu.

Sarkozy

Welcome to our world.

It interesting how Germany,

It interesting how Germany, Italy, France, and probably the UK (very soon) have moved to at least center or center right. And here we are with the clueless Obama trying to move us to the radical far left, socialist point on the spectrum as fast as he can.

These countries learned the hard way lefty socialism kills the spirit and everything else in its way. Obama will never learn that lesson. He's too far gone.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Land of Oz

Don't forget Australia moving to at least center or center right.  I don't know where they are about socialized medicine, but they were one of the first countries to embrace the global warming hoax only to find out that *GASP!* it IS a hoax and started repealing some of the nonsense.

Soetoro has learned his lessons well, he's who he is and he will not change.  There were some communists who saw the light, but this guy is not one of them.

-Jon

Australia

If that were true about Australia, they wouldn't have elected Kevin Rudd as PM and stuck with John Howard or given Peter Costello a chance.  But they didn't.  Let's see how center-Right Australia is in November 2010, or earlier.

You're right, so I guess we have to see what happens.

Stranger things have happened elsewhere, after all, France, especially after Chirac, talk about a serious 180!

Jon.. I forgot about the Ozzies. Bless em. They did blow the cover of the man made global warming scam, and big time, too.

They do have a form of universal health care, but I don't know all the details, since they vary from system to system.

The Tone! The Tone!

Thomas Friedman has a perfectly shallow op-ed in the NY Times today. He's really freaking out, worrying about the "climate" that far right-wingers have created about Obama.

  • For eight years, we wallowed through the Left's contempt of Bush, not to mention movies that indulged the sick fantasy of Bush being shot, and now they're worried about "tone?"

This is the same Friedman who woke up the day after Bush was re-elected and proclaimed to be astonished that people didn't think the way he did. "But what troubled me yesterday was my feeling that this election was tipped because of an outpouring of support for George Bush by people who don't just favor different policies than I do - they favor a whole different kind of America. We don't just disagree on what America should be doing; we disagree on what America is." (NY Times, November 2004)

What a pack of spoiled brats! To prove his claims that the "climate" is poisonous, Friedman points to a Facebook poll. Talk about a stretch! Only a complete idiot, or a disingenuous columnist for the NYTimes, would use that (likely created by a teenager as a prank) as a reliable indicator of the mood of conservatives. And yet he warns us of the tone that this poll "reveals." Oh hell, I could go on any HuffPo or DailyKos blog, and within minutes I could find something equally or more outrageous. And that has been the rhetorical sewer that we've all been drenched with for years.

Friedman is supposed to offer reflections on contemporary events, and yet his entire perspective is as narrow as a Manhattan alley. To be blunt, he unintentionally reveals that he doesn't know what's going on now, nor what's been going on for years.

Well POOH!!!

I never saw that one coming........

We should not be concerned

We should not be concerned that a Frenchman agrees with us, like the saying goes, a clock that is not running is right at least twice a day.

I must have had a low

I must have had a low moment, and an even lower moment to admit it, but I read a link Drudge had to what that old queen Gore Vidal had to say about a military take-over in the United States.  He dogged the Poser in chief like a red headed stepchild.  He thinks Hillary would have been better, but typical wacko voted for Obami.  It was a rubbish as far as I was concerned, but it made me realize, this bat-shit crazy old flamer is about as worthless an individual as has ever came out of the United States.

How someone this bitter hasn't put a bullet through their own head years ago just amazes me.  Talk about the epitome of elitist snobs.  This guy absolutely loathes Americans, thinks we are the dumbest creature of the first world.  I think the only dumb Americans are the ones that have provided this moron with a living these last sixty years by buying the claptrap he writes, and watching whatever lousy movies they make out of them.  What a complete loser he is, and this is not to disparage other honest losers.  The world would be a much better place if Gore Vidal had never stolen a breath of O2 out of it.

 Bill Buckley should have

Bill Buckley should have punched out Vidal like he threatened to do.

I miss Buckley.

Strat.. thanks for the

Strat.. thanks for the video of that great moment. I had forgotten just how close Buckley came to flattening Vidal.

Fun to watch Vidal's eyes blink blink blink after Buckley drew the line in the sand. Great stuff. That's when men were men and Vidal was, well, Vidal.

It's even more saying something when the French apparently have the bigger stones, as some conservative pundits have said yesterday.

I'd would take Sarkozy and/or Vaclav Klaus (President of the Czech Republic) over Obama/Biden any day.

Timothy---

I'm just calling them as I see them. And frankly, I no longer care what the libs think of much of anything.

Kat.......

It's not the libs opinions I worry about.  It's two other things.  First, the opinions of those who are trying to learn the differences between us and them.  And second, it's the credibility of our side.  If we act like them, how can we be seen as anything different to those who are peeking in.  I have a friend who turned 24 recently.  He doesn't vote.  Why because he has a real problem cutting through all of the name-calling to find out the truth on the issues.  And it comes from both sides.  We sit here and deride liberals for the horrible things they said about Bush, Chaney, their families, etc....but then sit here and mock Obama's wife for her looks?  How are we any better than them?  Doesn't that make us hypocrites?  What does that do for our credibility?  Am I making sense, or am I off base, here?

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe. - Albert Einstein

Timorthy--

It was simply a catty remark on my part...nothing else. I'll respect your opinion and take it into consideration.

Kat....

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not chastising here.  Simply raising a point.  We've all done it, including me.  I guess I'm getting more sensitive about it as some around me are moving towards a direction where the liberal blindfold has peeled back a bit, and credibility seems to matter a lot at this stage of the game.  Conservative have a chance to swing momentum now, and I guess I just feel like this kind of stuff inhibits our ability to show those who are lost in the desert that there is actually a reasonable argument here.  No harm was meant by my statements.

When Sarkozy Mocked Obama

The real story of what happened, in case you have been restricted to the State-Controlled Media for the last few days:

When Sarkozy Mocked Obama: http://www.powerlineblog.com

"President Sarkozy in particular pushed hard. He had been 'frustrated' for months about Mr. Obama's reluctance to confront Iran, a senior French government official told us, and saw an opportunity to change momentum. But the Administration told the French that it didn't want to 'spoil the image of success' for Mr. Obama's debut at the U.N. and his homily calling for a world without nuclear weapons, according to the Paris daily Le Monde. So the Iran bombshell was pushed back a day to Pittsburgh, where the G-20 were meeting to discuss economic policy."

In other words, it's all about Him. Let's not let little things like facts get in the way of President Prissypants' glorious world image.

Michelle

I have been wondering why nobody is asking how much we will have to borrow from the Reds in China to pay for Obama's efforts to get the Olympics for Chicago. God help us, if they get the games, it will cost the rest of the country at least 2 billion of borrowed dollars. His trip will cost millions, I think three 747s will go as a matter of course, with limos, security, so on and so on. But! We also pay separately for Michelle! I thought she would travel with Hubby, you know, to save a little green (money and nasty carbon emissions and stuff) But No!!! Today I saw a picture of her waving from Michelle One, which I think is one of the 747s. I suppose it might be a security thing. If , God Forbid, there was a crash at least one Obama would be spared to, ahem, finish to work. The Planet. Gaia, ya know.

Re Pay for Chicago

You know he would. Paying back the Chicago thug machine that sent him to DC is what this is all about.

Someone yesterday suggested a quick bill be tabled in Congress that confirms no federal money will be given to Chicago to fund or bail out the Olympics, should they go to Chicago.

Borrowing sucks no matter who's lending

I have been wondering why nobody is asking how much we will have to borrow from the Reds in China to pay for Obama's efforts to get the Olympics for Chicago.  Maybe because having to borrow from...well, ANYONE, is bad?  Would borrowing the money from domestic investors, the Japanese, the EU, Russia, or others be ANY better?

This whole Olympic trip has the potential to be very bad politically for Him.  What if the IOC, who must already be in a bad position, simply says "Rio!" on Friday?  Then He gets to fly home with a political pie on His face.

The last time I remember a nation's government doing anything like this was in 1974 when the Soviet Union whined and threatened to pull out of the IOC when Moscow was in the running for the 1980 Games.

The Dollar is the New Peso

Something to keep you awake nights:

The Dollar is the New Peso: http://www.redstate.com

"The fact that the Federal Reserve is printing dollars to buy U.S. Treasury bills means there can be no other outcome than the collapse of the value of the U.S. dollar."

If China and Japan will not buy our bonds, and why would they, then the US government can simply buy our own bonds with printed money. We are headed for runaway inflation. If you have any significant investments, look for ways to shelter them from the US dollar.

been saying that for a while

A lot of people are just not getting this, at work, we sometimes have the CNBC channel on (wish we had FBN but we don't) and I watch the ticker plus the stuff on the top of the screen that shows oil and gold and etc.  I hate seeing how gold is still just under $1000 as that's a very bad sign of the economy to come, inflation is going to pop any day now and sooner or later a loaf of bread will cost $50 to $100 and a cup of regular coffee(not Starbucks) will cost $20.(just examples, not real figures, they haven't happened....yet)

This is part of what's been happening the last 8 months that needs to stop and be reversed so that the damage can be repaired, but I'm afraid the people using common sense about this in Congress are in the very small minority.

China's been buying as much gold as possible adding to the problem, which is another reason for the cost going up.

I don't have any debts(no credit cards) beyond utility bills and rent and groceries, my vehicle is paid for; but a lot of people aren't in that good of a position financially, it'll be worse on a lot of them, when inflation pops.  What was it, the average household has like 7 credit cards or something like that?

 -Jon

Interesting

Inflation actually will help borrowers.  Deflation hurts them.

Finally!  There is something I am much more interested in...I wonder if the Chinese are attempting to hoard commodities in order to corner the markets?  That is something to keep an eye on...

National Debt Road Trip

Off topic, but this is the Open Thread. Saw this yesterday and wanted to share:

 National Debt Road Trip

"Maybe if we keep our heads buried in the sand, this will blow over" - The Congressional Republicans

Michelle in Copenhagen

So, Michelle flew to Denmark today in AF2. Obama to show up later in AF1.

Lots and lots of money looking after the nation's #1 priority -- Olympics next decade. Glad to see someone's looking out for us.

Next on the list -- cap and tax. Obama is going to tell us to stop using/wasting energy. He and Michell will probably fan out all over the country telling us that. Airplanes. Helicopters. Cars. Caravans. Lots of staff. Extra planes for the cars. I'm just glad he isn't a hyprocrite -- that would really upset me.

two airplanes?

Are their egos so big that the both of them cannot fit into one plane? Wonder what algore thinks of the carbon footprint their trip is making....

Oh, never mind. Carbon footprints only apply to conservatives.

"Maybe if we keep our heads buried in the sand, this will blow over" - The Congressional Republicans

2 Airplanes

is customary, when the President is overseas.  One's a back up, carries the armored limo, etc.

But the Obama's are totally clueless when it comes to how their actions are perceived.  Remember, perception is reality.

I hope he fails, too.

it is customary under NORMAL circumstances

But this is the first time I heard of the First lady travelling in a separate vehicle other than with the POTUS(no reference to the LOTUS).  I know there are those limos, armored vehicles, usually those are carried on a C-17 I thought, right?  Separate air vehicles are meant as decoys especially if they are the same type.

And when the First Lady is on a different plane, it doesn't have a specific designation, it wouldn't be Air Force 2 (that's the VP plane).  I keep wondering if this is like what happened where DuhOne went to Cairo without his wife because under Muslim law, the wife is not allowed to travel to a Muslim country with the husband?

This bunch in the White House has travelled so dang much at our expense, it's getting ridiculous.

-Jon

This is pretty cool

Totally off-topic, but it is the OT.

Fascinating account of two men who figured out how to weave spider silk (it took a million Golden Orb Spiders) into an amazing textile.

I immediately twigged to this, as we saw a variant of the Golden Orb Spider in Costa Rica.  This spider's silk is gold, and has one of the highest tensile strengths of any natural fibre (stronger than steel).  The shawl they wove looks like pure gold, too, it's beautiful and one of a kind.

Apparently there are commercial applications if the process can be refined, and one industrial engineer was really stoked by their progress.  And some of the comments by the tree huggers were pretty hillarious, too.

Enjoy...I'm sick of the rapist-rapist stories.

Its time for homework

All the Fringe reported Obama's speech to the UN as a wonderful discourse on America's new world policy. Then we learn the US has the chair for the security council for the first time in years but will not talk sanctions. Then we learn that Iran has a second nuclear site and that all the major powers have known about it for some time. Then Iran does that little "missile muscle" thing.

Now, for your homework, go back and read Obama's speech again.  Read it carefully. Now I'm am frightened and now I understand why wussie Sargozy is angry and frightened as well. How do you define "treason"?

France has long been

France has long been aggressive at (though not always successful) in defending France's interests...something I think the U.S. did once upon a time...hm.

I believe the main reason the Warsaw Pact/Soviet Union never invaded (yet anyway) Western Europe was because the Kremlin knew the French would have unilaterally nuked their forces while they were still in Germany.
