On NBC's 'Today,' Donny Deutsch Demands All Limbaugh Advertisers Pull Out, 'They Have No Choice'
During the weekly left-wing panel discussion on Tuesday's NBC Today, advertising executive Donny Deutsch announced: "The advertisers that are still on [sponsoring Limbaugh's radio show] are basically voting, 'Yes, we're okay with it.' They have no choice – I'm an ad guy, obviously – they have no choice but to go away." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]
Deutsch predicted: "Advertisers will speak and they will speak loud, and you're just seeing the beginning of it." Near the end of the segment, he berated Limbaugh's other advertisers: "I'm actually imploring advertisers to make – maybe we can use this to make a change in the voice out there, forget even Rush. Advertisers, take a stand right now. Every single one of you."
Considering Deutsch's own past offensive comments on-air, one would think he would be a little more forgiving. Appearing on Joy Behar's HLN show in February of 2010, Deutsch used racially-tinged language to attack then-Senate candidate Marco Rubio: "...You almost need that blank piece of paper. That's the new model. Like, you know, this coconut Rubio down in Florida."
In July of 2009, Deutsch appeared on MSNBC and suggested the only reason Sarah Palin garnered so much attention was because of her "sexual appeal."
On Tuesday, Deutsch touted an off-camera comment from weatherman Al Roker to justify the continued assault on Limbaugh: "When you're bullying down and you're basically sullying 97% – Al [Roker] said an interesting thing to me, he's [Limbaugh's] attacking our daughters. He's calling our daughters sluts if they use contraception."
Attorney Star Jones described Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke as a "young student" and later declared: "When you go after someone's college student, similar to Don Imus calling people "nappy-headed hos," it's the same thing. You're looking at my kid and we don't allow that."
In reality, Fluke is a 30-year-old woman and long-time liberal activist who was more than willing to testify at the Democratic show-hearing. She has gladly used the controversy to make numerous media appearances.
Fellow panelist, NBC chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman, concurred with Deutsch and Jones, ranting against Limbaugh's personal life: "I just want to remind people, for a man who's been married four times and has no children, I assume he's used some form of contraception or the women he's slept with. And, we know he has used Viagra. He's been caught buying Viagra, which is covered by medical insurance plans and contraception is not."
Wrapping up the Limbaugh bash-fest, co-host Matt Lauer did eventually allude to liberals being guilty of similar offensive comments: "...let's be clear about this. Saying outrageous, hurtful, harmful things is not the exclusive territory of those on the Right. People on the Left have said awful things, used slurs against women and minorities, all kinds of things."
However, rather than list specific left-wing commentators, many of them on MSNBC, Lauer simply wondered: "Is this just the system we've now gotten? Is this what the viewers deserve?"
Here is a full transcript of the March 6 exchange:
7:02AM ET TEASE:
ANN CURRY: Also this morning, more sponsors have now pulled out of Rush Limbaugh's radio show following his choice words for a Georgetown law student. How much damage has he done to himself? We're going to ask Today's Professionals about that and a lot more this morning.
8:09AM ET SEGMENT:
MATT LAUER: Back now at 8:09 with a new installment of Today's Professionals. Our team of Star Jones, Donny Deutsch, and Dr. Nancy Snyderman back to break down the hottest headlines of the day. Good morning, all. Good to see you.
By now, everyone's heard about the comments Rush Limbaugh has made about Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University law student who spoke out saying that she favored insurance plans covering contraception. He called her a "slut" and some other things. Advertisers immediately started bailing from his program and he has apologized.
NANCY SNYDERMAN: Sort of.
LAUER: Has he done enough to set this – and get it behind him?
DONNY DEUTSCH: No. Here's the problem with advertisers – not the problem with advertisers, the problem with Rush. The advertisers that are still on are basically voting, "Yes, we're okay with it." They have no choice – I'm an ad guy, obviously – they have no choice but to go away. It's one thing when you say something inappropriate and you're bullying up. When you're bullying down and you're basically sullying 97% – Al [Roker] said an interesting thing to me, he's attacking our daughters. He's calling our daughters sluts if they use contraception. And the things that go under the table, "femi-Nazis."
STAR JONES: This is a young student.
DEUTSCH: This is – advertisers will speak and they will speak loud, and you're just seeing the beginning of it.
SNYDERMAN: I though this was one of the most depressing weeks we've seen. And I felt like we were, 50 years ago we were more civil talking about contraception and women's rights than we have been this last week. I thought it really sullied a lot of the conversation.
I just want to remind people, for a man who's been married four times and has no children, I assume he's used some form of contraception or the women he's slept with. And, we know he has used Viagra. He's been caught buying Viagra, which is covered by medical insurance plans and contraception is not. If you want to talk about a double standard, I'll put those two medications right on the table.
STAR JONES: And remember what this young woman was testifying about. She was testifying about a colleague, another student who could not afford the medicine – not the contraception – the medicine necessary to treat an illness so that she would not lose her ovary. We need to keep things in perspective. This is an attack on women's health.
LAUER: Alright, when we say keep things in perspective, let's be clear about this. Saying outrageous, hurtful, harmful things is not the exclusive territory of those on the Right. People on the Left have said awful things, used slurs against women and minorities, all kinds of things.
JONES: Absolutely, absolutely.
LAUER: Is this just the system we've now gotten? Is this what the viewers deserve?
DEUTSCH: No, I think the system has a way of self-correcting. It's interesting, because the viewers understand the world we live in and then there's a line. And he crossed the line. And I'm actually imploring advertisers to make – maybe we can use this to make a change in the voice out there, forget even Rush. Advertisers, take a stand right now. Every single one of you.
JONES: As Donny said, bullying up is one thing, when you go after a politician or a big-time entertainer. When you go after someone's college student, similar to Don Imus calling people "nappy-headed hos," it's the same thing. You're looking at my kid and we don't allow that.

I can pretty much guaran-damn-tee that there are a LOT of sponsers in the wings for El Rushbo....................and when you consider the whole situation with this 'slut'/apology psuedo-crisis, it's basically a small pile of doggie-doo-doo that will be forgotten soon enough by anyone with 'half a brain'...............it's not even an issue. I currently have a Carbonite subscription and it will run out soon. Mozy was originally a Utah company whose owners may have been more conservative. It was bought out by a company based in Seattle.

However, conservatives may want to consider that option in the future. There are more of us than there are of these whiny liberals in their mothers' basements calling and emailing Rush's advertisers. We might consider just a one-month boycott of NBC/MSNBC's advertisers to send a message.
We absolutely should

Unlike the typical lib drone, we actually have money, so I think our boycott would have much more sting. We need to do our homework, though, so that we can move to a replacement product with ease.

"You're looking at my kid and we don't allow that."
Then, maybe, you should tell your "kid" that they shouldn't appear in front of the entire nation and give "testimony" to Congress about how terrible it is that they have to pay for something their own, private, lifestyle "requires." Then they won't be subject to public scrutiny, and the comments, even negative, derogatory comments, that accompanies such scrutiny.
This woman basically stood up in front of the entire world and screamed "LOOK AT ME, DAMMIT!" And NOW you're upset because someone publicly responded to that?
Look at what these people are saying: it is highly inappropriate that we scrutinize, or comment upon, the private lives of people while those people publicly call for the entire society to stock their private medicine cabinet for them! It doesn't make any sense!
This woman has willingly invited the entire public into her boudoir, but has the audacity to complain that it's inappropriate when someone mentions it? That's about as hypocritical as one can get!
And this is the leading "issue" of the decade, isn't it? Yes, it obviously is, and it is such an important issue that things like Holder's announcement that, no "due process" isn't the same as "judicial process," so Fourth Amendment rights don't extent to American 'terrorists" who happen to reside outside of the US, that the decision of just who, and if, and how, those "terrorist' should be assassinated by the US government resides solely within the confines of the office of the President, barely rates a mention on the network news.
Rush Limbaugh called someone a Slut, on the "public airwaves," no less. We need EVERYONE to hear about it! In the meantime, the President just announced that he, and only he, has the power to determine if American citizens shall live or die based upon the criteria he, and only he, has applied, and the press has deemed this as so inconsequential that they won't even tell us about it.

There is no question that this young woman has misrepresented herself and has shown her radical activists agenda.
However, regardless of all the negative attacks this woman so deserves,, I do have some sympathy for her. Drsam is better qualified but I will try to explain my take of this young woman, Ms Fluke.
From her background history and activists work as well as her recent interviews show me that she has once again been used as a pawn. She appears to be consumed by her own sexuality issues and has resulted in her activists work. She is a part of an organization for LGBT legal services for domestic violence, sex slaves, and far left views of women's issues.
She appears to me to be focused on sexual issues and her own sexuality. If she does indeed see women only in terms of "reproductive" and "sexual" nature , this shows some problems in her self image and her role in the world. This implies to me that she was "seduced" into sexual activity at an early age or sexually abused as a child. As a result, she may be struggling with her own sexual identification, hence the activities with the LGBT community. If she was introduced into sexual activity at a young age, possible homosexual in nature, the attitude that her sexuality and sexual role is typical of sexual abuse victims. They believe that being a sexual "tool" is all they have to offer as a woman and controls all of their life decisions.
Someone in a position of power and influence, ie, Pelosi, may know this young woman and has taken advantage of her weaknesses. Once again, she appears to have been "seduced" or victimized by those who readily identified her "weaknesses". To me, these people are despicable and are the real villans here.
Her activists involvement with homosexual domestic violence and sex slaves is very commendable. But it also implies that she may identify with the victims and this has distorted a realistic view of these issues. This makes her a perfect pawn for far left whackos who have shown not an ounce of ethics nor compassion involving this young woman.
This is part of a rather complex presentation.
Submitted by drsamherman on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 2:56pm.
This is not directed specifically at Ms. Flake (or whatever), but rather at the general profile of many uberliberals we have all seen.
I will work from the inside out, to give you all a flavor of some of the observations that could, and I emphasize could, be made in cases like this.
1) A good deal of this starts with a person who generally is a follower and not a leader. While this does not preclude cluster B personality disorders, it is more strongly suggestive of cluster C. Cluster B is too self-focused, while cluster C is more focused on extremes like avoidant, dependent and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Of particular interest are the latter two, that being dependent and OC personality disorders, which are often found together. Dependent personality disorder essentially means the person is excessively dependent upon others and submissive, requiring care from others (not in an attention-seeking way) and tolerant of mistreatment. OC personality disorder is precisely like its Obsessive-Compulsive mood disorder analogue though these personality traits are not directly treatable by medication. In the case of the social do-gooder, these manifest as a thirst for membership in a group that will provide identification, support and a cause to feed the personality disorder symptoms. The leaders of these groups are more than often narcissists, and the parasitism that occurs between these two polar opposites feeds upon one another. There is no symbiosis involved, as the narcissist is more than willing to use and abuse the dependent/OC personality disorder patient to whatever ends necessary, and the victim often goes along with it just to maintain a sense of identity and purpose. The OC features manifest as whatever thoughts are placed into the head of patient by the narcissist, and the compulsions form around supporting and feeding the ego of the narcissist. So, we first start off with a personality disorder that is focused on a desperate need for inclusion, identity, purpose and the obsessions/compulsions that form around that need. In other words, the narcissist uses the cluster C patient as an emotional human shield.
2) The overlay with a mood disorder and/or dissociative symptoms comes when the patient's personality disorder traits (dependent and/or OC) start to interfere with activities of daily living as expressed through their ability to care for themselves and meet their own needs independent of the narcissist and/or group. Usually, this starts off as a series of fixed, false beliefs implanted by a narcissist or expressed by the group and to which the dependent/OC personality disorder patient is incapable of questioning or unwilling to consider alternatives because they believe this will be perceived as disharmony and will cause the person to lose their identity with the group. In other words, rocking the boat with questions means being put off on the next desert island - not a prospect which a cluster C patient would ever consider. Next come whatever mood manifestations may occur, whether this goes into full bore OCD complete with fixed false beliefs and repetitive patterns altering the ability to lead a focused, self-sufficient life or somewhere else on the spectrum to major depression. Rarely is bipolarity ever associated with a cluster C--bipolars are almost always cluster A or B (predominantly). So we next have an overlay of a mood disorder. In extreme cases, we get detachment from reality and some dissociative features fed by the OCD. This is where it gets tough to treat - a double whammy of an emotional doormat and OCD.
3) At some point, these cases typically diverge into one of three paths: a) the cluster C patient with a co-morbid mood and/or dissociative disorder seeks treatment and realizes he/she is being used and leaves--this is rare; b) the patient moves up the rung of personality disorders and transforms into a narcissist (yes, it does often happen) and becomes the user; or c) the patient worsens and we see this martyrdom complex that is a "take a hit for the team" that is never acknowledged by the group and usually the patient is emotionally liquidated in order to move on to the next one.
Just some general comments regarding what I see in so many cases. I get a lot of this around election time, and these patients are so difficult to treat that we stabilize them only until it happens the next time.

So let me get this right Danny… (wouldn’t want to misinterpret your advice):
You are suggesting that a company that uses radio advertising to promote its products... Not advertise on the #1 rated Radio Show in America because doing so will “harm the product brand” -
But,
Advertising on low-rated anti-capitalist programs with vile 'anti-client' hosts will help product sales.
Donny, Donny, Donny, if that is the measure of your advice – and if you are so deluded to push your personal agenda rather than your clients products… Why should any business hire you to represent their advertising/public relations interests???
All I know is if you gave me advice like that… I’d drop you in a heartbeat.
But let’s keep an open mind: Why don’t we wait until the end of the month to see how the “Carbonite,” (et. al.) sales figures have just soared because they dropped Rush?

To paraphrase the Great One Mr. Levin, liberals twist themselves into pretzels to justify their words and actions. No such demands for advertisers to jump ship when Sgt. Schultz called Laura Ingraham a "talk slut". No such demands for viewers to cancel their HBO subscriptions when Bill Donkeyface Maher called Sarah Palin the most derogatory terms you can use against a woman. No such demands for people to picket CBS when David Letterman made jokes about Palin's 14 year old daughter being raped in front of tens of thousands of people. This double standard is no longer just infuriating, it's detestable.

1) "Ha, ha, Rush was married four times!". Dr. Synderman is also no stranger to divorce court, as she is now on her THIRD husband. In fact, in one of her divorces, her attorney was none other than the Clarissa Darrow of our time, Hillary Clinton.
2) Anyone remember what Martha Stewart went to jail for? Guess who DID NOT go to jail for the same exact thing?
3) Snyderman on 8/4/11: "Women who marry older men are hookers." Now here I thought hooker was a synonym for prostitute...? But how about women who marry much younger men, Doctor? That scenario sound familiar?

The choice here is that of the listeners. If the listeners don't go away, the advertisers won't go away. That's because the LISTENERS control the matter. That's where the money is. Deutch is stupid if he doesn't know that, but he's not stupid. Deutsch Dissed Cantor Fitzgerald after 9/11

Cantor Fitzgerald was the investment firm that lost all their employees who were located at the top of the north tower at WTC on September 11th. They of course ceased all advertising for a long time.
But when they did start again to advertise they decided just to let whatever employees who lived talk about that day and the friends they lost. There was no selling - just them talking. It was something the employees wanted to do. The commercials were very sad of course.
The day after they began to run, Donny went on air and berated the company and their ad agency for what he saw as Cantor Fitzgerald's commercializing on the tragedy of 9/11.
The only thing that was wrong was Donny shooting his pathetic and ignorant mouth off. That is his clients never liked him and never looked forward to him being in a meeting.

I heard that story, because it happened over here in Asia/People's Republic of Hawaii, when Rush had some heart issues. Just remember, Hawaii was the prototype for Nurse Ratchett's healthcare system. The hospital knew that Rush didn't have insurance - they just didn't know how to bill him on a cash basis. And I'd be willing to bet that it cost a lot LESS than running it through insurance.
There are medical people over here who only operate on 'cash', because they DON'T want to get involved with the healthcare issues - regardless of whether they are private OR government types. And it ends up being cheaper. Imagine that!!!!

Here's the thing, although I agree with most of what Rush says, I'm not a big fan of how he says it. I prefer Andrew Wilkow on XM from 12 to 3. Addiction runs in my family, so I can't condemn someone who fights that battle EVERY DAY. It's not as if he is still an addict, or committed a crime and then blamed it on his addiction. He dealt with it, and by the grace of God will continue to do so.
Michael J. Fox made a sideshow of his disease, not Rush. Are we supposed to sit back and say, oh well we can't argue against killing babies for Michael J Fox because he didn't take his meds that day?
The left is doing their best to SILENCE Rush. To shut down the free speech because they don't agree with him. For that reason, I will now listen to Rush and buy from his advertisers whenever possible. Because I believe in free speech.

Radical, fair enough and I understand where you are coming with your stance on addiction. I think you have to acknowledge that it makes sense why some people might see him as a hypocrite given his statements about drug abuse. You are correct, he did deal with it, but at the time that it happened, I thought he looked mighty two-faced. It was kind of like Ted Haggard in some regards.
Michael J. Fox was uncalled for. I don't believe he was hamming it up at all. Rush made a lot of assumptions and attacked him b/c stem cell research was the hot topic of the day. Not ok. Defend it if you wish, but I find it to be deplorable.
The left is doing their best to silence Rush? I don't think so. They're boycotting him and encouraging advertisers to do the same. I see calls for boycotts on Newsbusters all the time. Both sides engage in this behavior frequently. The fact that advertisers are jumping ship seems to indicate that Rush angered a lot of people. If that's the case, then he will have to pay. That's how the free market works. Given the fact that he makes $50 million a year, I doubt he's losing any sleep over it.
By the way, before you say that Rush is being treated more harshly than Maher, Malloy, or Rhodes. Obviously that's the case b/c nobody listens to those people. Their audiences are minute in comparison to Rush. Rush is big news because he's a big deal.

Ghostly Gelding, you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about here. Do you actually THINK that Rush would want to watch some video of this professional tramp doing the 'boom-boom'??? And, by the way, where are all the guys (unless she's a lesbian - in which case, why does she need government-supplied contraceptives??) that she claims to be having sex with?? '
Surely some of them would 'get her back', so to speak. Kind of like Boy Barry and all of his so-called college and post-graduate accomplishments..........we've never been able to find anyone to verify them. Fluck/Fluke is probably the same way.
And I ask you - what is wrong with a bunch of single guys going to the Dominican Republic for fun in the sun, golf, sightseeing, and other activities, OR with having a stash of Viagra??? Being a little judgemental here, aren't you, Gelding???
As to the drug addiction..............I don't know where you would be if you were losing your hearing AND had an unfixable situation in your spine, so don't get too high and mighty about your proclamations. Plus, Rush owned up to it and did his rehab, and didn't make any excuses about it either.

killa,I don't know if Rush would actually want to watch the video (and neither do you by the way). I'm just basing my statements on Rush's actual words. As for the particulars of the girls' case, I truly couldn't care less. I find it funny that Newsbusters is so fired up about this. If you watch Fox News or read other news websites, nobody else is covering the Rush saga anymore. It's already old news, yet Newsbusters is cranking out articles like a machine.
There's nothing wrong with a bunch of single guys going to the DR for fun, sun, golf, sightseeing, and other activities (read: dabbling in flesh). But, it's strange to me that Rush represents the voice of the conservative right when his behavior doesn't fit their morals.
Rush did own up. However, he also became one of the people that he railed so hard against. Perhaps he should have thought a bit more before condemning drug addicts so harshly prior to his experience. It just shows me that he's a guy that speaks first and only asks questions later.

So now you're making 'behaivioral' judgements about Conservatives, Ghostly??? Lilke 'dabblilng in the flesh'?? What are you, some kind of prude or something??? You think that Liberals are the only people who enjoy sex - and I would argue that might be a mis-statement anyway.
As far as NB being 'fired up' about this............last I checked, NB runs pieces and articles by the StateRun Media as examples of media bias and disinformation, and then the conversation continues. I don't see NB making things up here. And, if it's 'old news', then what it the 'new news' that is being reported?? Is it anything of substance - coming from the MSM??? I doubt it.
You know, as to the drugs, Rush DID become addicted to prescription pain killers, which DOES happen a lot, unfortunatly. I don't think there's any evidence of Rush buying 'street drugs' or becoming some kind of addict or junkie that is synonomys with the typical 'drug addict'.................was JFK a drug addict?? Hell, Boy Barry has admitted to doing a LOT of drugs - what's your take on that???
I don't think you've listened to Rush enough to be making any educated comments about him - I'm willing to bet that most of your impressions about Rush come from what you read and hear about him.
