BBC: Americans Drive Cars 'Not Much Smaller' Than Big Rigs

By Kristine Lawrence | May 02, 2008 | 11:45

On the April 30 edition of "BBC World," Justin Webb reported on rising fuel costs and how the increase in prices affect the American public. According to Mr. Webb, many Americans drive cars nearly the size of big rigs, and will need to spend their tax rebate on fuel, thereby doing little for the economy at large. After all, if a big rig tank takes over a thousand dollars to fill, many American cars must face similar costs. [Audio available here] Transcript below:

“Many Americans drive private cars not much smaller than this truck, and the risk is that they use their tax rebate simply to buy fuel, boosting the profits of the oil companies but doing little or nothing for the wider American economy.

CBS Bashes Bush through Controversial Children’s Show

By Kristine Lawrence | October 18, 2007 | 15:08

On last night’s episode of Kid Nation, each of the four districts had to chronologically assemble photographs of seven U.S. Presidents. The winning team would become the ‘Upperclass.’  The yellow team won, mainly because of team member Zach.  His fellow teammate Kelsey seemed to resent his success.  Transcript below:

Kelsey:  “We won with the help of Zach but just because he knows his Presidents doesn't mean he’s the best leader. I mean, look at George W. Bush.  He’s not smart at all but he won the U.S. President two times in a row.”

NBC’s Las Vegas Takes Dirty Swipe at Rush Limbaugh

By Kristine Lawrence | October 09, 2007 | 13:21

"It hotter than Rush Limbaugh's scrotum in polyester pant!"

For an episode focused on prostitutes, robbery, and bowling, the executives at NBC still managed to insult conservative Rush Limbaugh. Last Friday’s episode of Las Vegas had the casino spa's manicurist Polly, known for her racy sexual commentary, taking a yoga class. Her instructor warns her against drinking too much water, and the writers seemed to feel that the only way to accurately describe the heat in the room was to take a cheap political shot. The exchange:

TRAINER: If you drink any more water, Polly, you're gonna throw up. Do you wanna throw up?

POLLY: No, but it hotter than Rush Limbaugh's scrotum in polyester pant!

Video clip from the October 5 episode (15 secs): Real (500 KB) or Windows Media (575 KB), plus MP3 audio (90 KB)
