Former Calif. State Democratic Pol's Son Arrested in Connection to Murder, No Party ID Mentioned

In another edition of, "where in the world is that Democrat party identification?" Pauline Repard of The San Diego Union Tribune made no mention what so ever that former State Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez is a California Democrat in an article about his son's recent arrest. The L.A. Times was no better either in identifying Nuñez's party affiliation. The Associated Press mentions Nuñez's party in the third paragraph from the bottom of the story.

Nuñez's son, Esteban,19, was arrested Tuesday with three other men, in connection with the stabbing death of a young collegian.

According to the article:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Nuñez's father was born in San Diego and graduated from San Diego High School. He served in the Assembly for six years and as speaker for the past four years. He represented the 46th District in Los Angeles until term limits prevented him from running for re-election this fall.

This was the extent of the political background on Fabian Nuñez.

Nuñez is no wall flower either. His record of activism in the illegal immigration movement is very well known. According to a 2004 article from La Voz de Aztlan, he was "declaring war on Schwarzenegger" if he continued with "his anti-immigrant ways."

The rest of Repard's article talks about the crime itself:

Also arrested Tuesday were Ryan Jett, Rafael Garcia and Leshanor Thomas, all 19, of the Sacramento area, Collins said.
The four are suspected in a fight on Oct. 4 in the College Area that left Luis Santos, 22, dead and three of his friends injured. Santos and two of the victims were stabbed.
The suspects will be brought to San Diego to face charges of murder and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
The four had come to San Diego the weekend of the fight to party with friends, Collins said.
He said witness statements after the fight led police to one suspect, who led them to the others. A week after the slaying, detectives searched the homes of all four suspects and collected evidence.
The article wraps up with the former speaker's current occupation:

Fabian Nuñez, 41, has been appointed to the board of directors of Zenith National Insurance Corp., the company announced Monday. Also, Mercury Public Affairs, which runs public-policy campaigns, named Nuñez last week as legal counsel for its California operations.

If the press seems so intent on doing so much research on Nuñez's current job at Zenith National Insurance Corp., would it be so hard to place a "D" after his name in the beginning of their stories? After all, they would do it for a Republican in Nuñez's place.

***Update- It looks like the L.A. Times yanked the article I originally posted.  I replaced the link with another L.A. Times story about the murder case, which, yet again, does not identify Fabian Nuñez's party affiliation.  The mobile web link of the orginal is available here.  The Associated Press also made some changes to their article.  Nuñez's party identification was moved up some, so it is now located seven paragraphs into the story as opposed to three paragraphs up from the bottom.

Once again typical, once

Once again typical, once again infuriating, once again no bias or hypocrisy here.

bias and hypocracy

of course there's no bias or hypocracy .. just inevitable .. dem = no mention .. republican = breaking news, cut lines, specials, 24/7 coverage ..

never look a gift skunk in the tail

To be fair, compare

To be fair, I noted that in a Oct. 29th story about Palin's email getting hacked, in the Knoxville News Sentinel, that it said about the hacker's dad, "Kernell, D-Memphis," and thus showed party affilication was important to report.

The standard by which one has their dad's party included and the other one doesn't eludes me.

Party ID missing

The consistent media treatment of party labeling has caused me to assume that an unlabled person in trouble is a democrat and that an unlabled politician doing good is a Republican. Using that methodology has a near perfect success rate.

I see a conspiracy

I have another way of thinking about this.  Since this is the age of the internet and search engines, I think it comes down to being able to prove things.  How do we prove things here?  We google it, looking for key words.  If these key words aren't found then the articles don't show up do they?  Sooooo with that being said when Pelosi says Republican's culture of coruption it makes it very hard on our side to say no, becuase we're not going to find a quarter of the articles we actaully should in defense (showing the bad stuff on the Dem's).  I may just be paranoid, but I dont put it past the socialsts of this nation.  If I were in control of the media and I didnt want to be critisized that's one thing I would do......

Just as insulting a muslim

Just as insulting a muslim is now considered a violent hate crime by Reuters, so is mentioning any Democrat affiliation in a crime. A violent hate crime don't you know!! Juxtapose that with the "LOVE FESTS" provided to us by islam on 9/11 and in Mumbai. These nutty Liberals will get from islam what they deserve. It will not be pretty to see but will be representative of a form of ironic justice.

Long History

As a San Diegan I must admit that the UT has a long history of being pro illegal-alien, so it doesn't surprise me that Nunez (who is pretty radical in his pro illegal activism) gets a pass on this article.

Are we getting carried away?

While I usually agree about the lack of party identification when the alleged perp is a democrat, why is it important to give party identification of the alleged perp's father? If the father was a dentist or a factory worker, he wouldn't have even been mentioned in the stories because he is not party to the crime.

Are you kidding?

That is how the game is played in politics, if the politician can't be lambasted, you go after the family or friends - Sarah Palin ring a bell?   You know - That "whore" of a daughter, was it true or was it just to score points.  What I get surprised about is that a Democrat gets mentioned AT ALL, but then again that might be part of Obama's "change' he's been talking about.

My point

is that we, the NBers, are acting just like the MSM in going after the family when the family had nothing to do with the crime. It's important whether or not the father did a good job of parenting, it's not important [in regards to the son's alleged commission of a crime] what the father's politics are, unless the father's politics caused the son to commit the crime. That doesn't seem to be the case here.

Unfortunately, it is not

Unfortunately, it is not only the print media that will not publish a party affiliation when it has negative implications, unless it is a Republican.

Los Angeles radio station KFI (640), part of the Clear Channel operation, failed to mention former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez's party affiliation when it reported the story about his son today.

Now there is a possibility that the media didn't report Fabian Nunez's party affiliation because almost everyone in elected office in California is a Democrat. For example, the California State Assembly has 80 members and fifty one of those are Democrats.

California is so overloaded with liberal Democrats that sometimes it seems that I'm the only Conservative in the state.  Okay, I may be exaggerating a bit.

In 2007 then Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez received some unwanted attention when it was discovered that NBC-Telemundo newswoman, Mirthala Salinas, was having an affair with then-married Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. It was revealed that Ms. Salinas had previously dated Mr. Nunez shortly before he took the Democrat Speakership role in 2004. Mr. Nunez was divorced at the time he dated Ms. Salinas.

Don't tell me Democrats are all work and no play!

However, More Republicans Satisfied With Sex Lives Than Democrats
