Chris Matthews: I Am NOT Charlie Hebdo!; 'I Wouldn't Buy The Magazine'

Editor's Note : Reposting this January 20 item now in light of the terrorist attacks on Nov. 13 in Paris.

Railing against how Republicans want to "make it ethnic" when it comes to criticism of Islamist terrorism, Hardball host Chris Matthews on Tuesday evening insisted that President Obama was correct to eschew referring to the Charlie Hebdo office massacre by al Qaeda operatives as "Islamic terrorism."

What's more, Matthews made a point of insisting that he refuses to join in with folks around the globe expressing solidarity with the slain cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo:

I think it helps their cause to call it Islamic terrorism. It helps the terrorists' cause. They want to ignite anger against the West, against Christians and Jews.... I'm very much against "Je Suis Charlie" for that reason. Well, I'm not part of that magazine's editorial staff! I don't believe in making fun of other religions. I wouldn't buy the magazine. I'm not Je Suis anything!

That is patently untrue. As we've documented time and again, Chris Matthews revels in mocking conservative Christians who do not believe in evolution but believe in a literal 6-day-span interpretation of the biblical creation account.
