MSNBC's Alex Wagner Tweets 'Sexual Harassment Is a Lucrative Side Gig' for Herman Cain

Some 24 hours before taking to the air for the debut of "Now with Alex Wagner," the MSNBC host tweeted a snarky comment about sexual harassment being a "lucrative side gig" for GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain, who "raised $9M in Oct."

Wagner's November 13 tweet -- a screen capture of which is shown below the page break -- links to a "The Page" blog post at Time.com regarding a $9 million fundraising boost for Cain since October 1.

But besides presuming Cain's guilt, Wagner's claim is factually inaccurate, ignoring the fact that Politico broke the sexual harassment allegations at the end of October, publishing the story to its website after 9 p.m. Eastern on Halloween night. Indeed, Time magazine notes that only 25 percent of the contributions "came since Politico published its story alleging the Georgian sexually harassed two women."

What's more, as Aaron Blake of the Washington Post noted in a November 10 The Fix blog post, "the last 10 days also represents almost exactly 25 percent of the quarter so far, so it suggests his pace has actually stayed pretty constant amidst the controversy."

In other words, Cain's sexual harassment allegations might not really be so "lucrative" as Wagner would have her followers believe.

to get analogies right. Cain is receiving money, not for sexual harassment, not even (as far as I know) despite sexual harassment. But mainly to oppose the media machine's smear job, suggesting that he did this, on scant evidence.

It doesn't make sense from

Submitted by redfish on Mon, 11/14/2011 - 4:47pm.

It doesn't make sense from any angle. The money that goes to his campaign has to be spent on his campaign, so I don't know what "lucrative" in that context would even mean. Its lucrative in the same way legal defense funds are lucrative.

Obviously it was a joke, just a pretty stupid one.

She should be SUED & FIRED for that.

Submitted by Annie Ashe Fields on Mon, 11/14/2011 - 4:35pm.

I spent my life behind a radio microphone, so am loathe to call for any broadcaster’s firing, knowing as I do, how easy it is to step in it, but sitting down to tweet is a DELIBERATIVE act, something done ON PURPOSE, after THINKING ABOUT IT, and this tweet was formed with CLEAR MALICE OF INTENT, a DECLARATIVE statement making a DISGUSTING CAUSAL link from facts NOT IN EVIDENCE to fundraising from his outraged supporters, and thus, appears, to me, a non-lawyer, to be a LIBELOUS SLANDER.

Perhaps it’s short of the textbook definition of “libel,” so perhaps the law is not the place to seek remedy, but MSNBC should! If for no other reason than to maintain the integrity (such as it is) of the brand.

Please don't insult Ms Wagner. I'd bet she's a high priced one now that being a media whore is no longer her side gig.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

Why are these MSDNC bitches

Submitted by Pasco Conservative on Mon, 11/14/2011 - 5:18pm.

Why are these MSDNC bitches so snarky?

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.

Off to a good start

trying to get some viewers making outlandish statements, 'cause that's the recipe for success, a change of pace, a new mouthpiece to deliver the same old message with a slightly different grammatical structure. This is what skill and substance lacking frauds resort to.

The deliciousness that such a simple concept is lost to the supposed intellectual members of society never tires.

Your message has not, does not, and will never resonate with true Americans, no matter how loudly or how many times you say it, or how many times you change the packaging.

The wheels are falling off and I don't feel bad one bit. It's the culmination of what the left has been trying to achieve for 4+ decades. The impending carnage of the crash is what keeps me smiling.

Add to Øbama's legacy in 2012: The first MULATTO, one term, worst U.S. President ever. Your vote ensures the trifecta.

Alex Wagner?

You mean THAT Alex Wagner that worked for The Center for American Progress, you know, THE GEORGE SOROS outfit????? I guess the only credentials to get a show on M.S.S.R. (MSLSD) is to have your hands in Soros's pants.
