October 6 Obama Press Conference Live Blog
I'll be live-blogging the questions from reporters below the page break:
12:13: Now that the presser has wrapped up, MSNBC has Ed Schultz on to cheer what Obama said and have Dylan Ratigan slam Obama for not being liberal enough.
12:04: Male reporter "What should European leaders do to solve the sovereign debt crisis going forward?" Also asks if he feels European leaders were negligent for not pushing austerity sooner.
11:54: Matt Spetalnick, Reuters with questions on China, Pakistan.
11:52: Plante follow-up: "Is public pressure the only leverage you have, sir?"
11:45: Bill Plante, CBS News: "Are you negotiating? Will you?" on the jobs bill, or is Obama pursuing the Harry Truman campaign model, campaigning against a "do-nothing Congress"?
11:40 David Nakamura, Washington Post asks about Solyndra loan program and green/solar energy industry, "Why has that industry been so slow to respond" to the investment of the federal government?
11:37 Hans Nichols, Bloomberg asks Obama how he plans on stopping banks charging fees and if he believes companies don't have a right to make a certain amount in profits
11:36 Tapper asks follow-up on prosecutions
11:28: Jake Tapper, ABC notes Obama administration hasn't prosecuted Wall Street executives and sent them to jail. Also asks about Solyndra, Fast & Furious, asks if it gives Obama pause. "Are you worried at all about how your administration is running?"
11:27: My apologies for not picking up all the follow-up questions. Many of them are asked off-mic and I can't make them out clearly.
11:21: female reporter asks questions about Occupy Wall Street movement: "Are you following this movement and what would you say to people who are attracted to it?"
11:15: Todd follow-up: You're not seeing phones being jammed, there's disillusionment... "Are you worried about your own powers of persuasion" and that the public "is not listening to you anymore?"
11:14: Chuck Todd, MSNBC asks Obama if he's "okay with" the surtax on millionaires to pay for jobs package.
11:06: Ben Feller, Associated Press asks if Obama agrees with Fed chairman Ben Bernanke that the economy is close to faltering. Also asks if it would be more productive to work with Republicans rather than singling out Republicans by name for objecting to his jobs bill.

Bank Mortgage Rules
Submitted by Gat New York on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 11:32am.
Obama places complete blame on Wall Street and ignoring the role of government and left wing advocate groups that FORCED banks to issue mortgages to unqualified people under the CRA and banks had to invent ways to warrant these bad loans.
People like Obama, Dodd, and Frank created this mess and then point fingers elsewhere.
Seriously?
Submitted by mandrake on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 12:07pm.
So the whole financial mess was created by Obama..had nothing to do with any of his predecessors. Also, I've never seen anyone FORCE a bank to do anything except maybe go to Washington and beg for a bailout.
Mandrake, seriously?
Submitted by Radical1979 on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 3:17pm.

no one forced the banks to make the decisions they made. They could have accepted that they would be forced to pay higher percentages then their competitors and possibly lost federal insurance for their depositors and continue to decline the risky loans.

Clean energy
Submitted by Radical1979 on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 11:41am.
We don't have to succeed at EVERY industry, that's stupid. We could certainly compete if we were allowed to use our own oil and coal, but that's not allowed.
I'd love it if someone asked about GE moving their x-ray plants to China.
Trump
Submitted by Gat New York on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 11:45am.
I heard Trump say that he has tried solar energy and it would take over 30 years to even break-even on that investment because of how little it generates as well as how much these panels need to be replaced.
Solar Panels in the North East
Submitted by Radical1979 on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 11:56am.
There's no way solar panels are cost effective where I live. Not enough sunshine. Maybe in places like Texas or Florida...Certainly not in Seattle.
The free market will drive us to the cheapest energy, no question about it. Obama is driving us toward funding his campaign funders.
Should be consumer choice
Submitted by jon_torlin on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 12:01pm.
It should be up to the consumer to decide if they want to put panels on their houses and for whatever reason to do it for, but to try to use something like that on a large scale is impractical at best and a singular waste of money at worst. Just as bad as shutting the power plants down because the EPA said so because of concern over breathing ailments when there are far bigger problems to worry about.

Cain -
Submitted by Agnostic on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 12:03pm.
I really like Cain - about 80% which is very high considering I'm not a Republican. What I would like from Cain and I realize it is too soon for this is an idea of the people that he will place around his administration. He is not political in the traditional DC way (GOOD) but he is already getting some bad advice and I'm concerned that once getting on the ticket the RNC will surround him with the their people. There are some good people there but I would definitely keep them out of the majority.
Bolton is one person I would love to see there but again the media would attempt to hang Cain if he actually named a controversial person.
I'm sure the media will find a joke somehow comparing McCain, Cain, the food industry and using the 'Mc' as a McDonalds reference - I just can't figure it out.

When asked a simple, direct question, Obama rambles on for 15 minutes of stream of consciousness nonsense. Amazing that this buffoon was elected president AND that some people think he is brilliant. No, that is total BS. He is an insecure, incompetent blowhard that likes to listen to the sound of his own voice. Only the ignorant and the willfully ignorant will vote for this a-hole again in 2012. I have said this many times here on NB - and even taken some heat for it. Boy Barry Soetoreo Barack Hussein Obama IS a walking, talking, breathing, living LIE!!! His whole life has been a LIE. He lives the LIE every day. He has no relationship with TRUTH, COMMON SENSE, ETHICS, HONOR, or any of those other characteristics. And since the DNA that courses through his veins is a LIE, he can't even entertain the idea that he is a LIE. I'll bet that - in a one-on-one conversation with this drip, with proof positive of whatever facts you might have to prove your case, he STILL wouldn't be able to admit that he is LYING, because he doesn't think that he is................
Somebody was talking about despising this twerp-assed punk............welcome to the party. I've taken some heat early on for my views and opinions about Boy BlahBlah, but I've always been steadfast in my assessments, because - even though they may have some roots in my own prejuidice towards him as a man and a public figure - they were and are also taken from factual information that I have garnered about this phony - the biggest scam ever perpetrated on this country in the history of the USA.
So, to the MSM, stupid voters, wishy-washy followers, and anybody else who has bought into the bill of goods under the guise of 'hope and change'.................YOU'RE LATE!!!!
No need to do that.

As we get closer to the election, he will lash out against those closest to him and he will cause even more destruction. I have yet to witness any narcissist cause anything but complete chaos as their delusional, self-important world crashes down upon them.
The unemployment report tomorrow will be met by the usual "Bush's fault" mantra and the other mendacity that comes from a White House. This is like watching the American flag being drawn through the mud and not being able to do a thing about it. Sad.

Boy, Fat Eddie got a wee bit upset when Dylan pointed out the only 1.2 million jobs to be created with 30 million needed. Ed's 'I don't have to listen to this, I'm going back to my radio show' sounded a LOT like 'I'm taking my ball and going home'.
Capitalism versus Socialism
Submitted by Gat New York on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 12:54pm.
Obama's press conference answers were an argument for Socialism - a belief in government running the economy - investing in select industries and businesses - and taking care of all citizens and their every need.
Obama believed that the only way we could compete with China was to act like China with government selecting winners and losers.
Obama's snarky remark about what the Republican solution to creating jobs proved he has zero knowledge of economics and is a true believer of socialism. He said that reducing regulations never created a job. Really? I wonder what Democrat Steve Wynn would say about that.
And finally Obama took the step we all anticipated and tied his wagon to the protestors on Wall Street who have now been joined by Obama's union and ACORN allies to set up a class warfare going into 2012.
After seeing his performance and looking ahead to the 2012 campaign, some may disagree, but I would like to see a Romney (not Perry)/Cain ticket which will destroy the credibility of Obama/Biden and somewhere in the middle of the campaign and early debate will make both look like hopeless village idiots.
It's sort of worrisome...
Submitted by NevadanConservative on Thu, 10/06/2011 - 2:10pm.
Understand me, I am GOP through and through, and have little if any common ground with the OWS neohippies.(Mostly, like any mammal, they are able to inhale oxygen and relase carbon dioxide... although the stories about the stench around Wall st. from them makes me think they are less efficent about it.)
However... these are useful idiots, and it would not surprise me one tiny bit if something happens to cause a Tienanmen grade bloodbath, and thus RInoberg, Cuomo, and BHO 'needing to enforce a "temporary" state of martial law.'
As to "look like hopeless village idiots"... Biden IS one. That's why he is VP, as an ablative insurance policy against anything untoward happening to BHO.
BHO is simply the good water-carrying marxist tool/standardbearer, unable of a single thought or utterance outside the statist playbook. Calling such a individual a village idiot is a first order insult to the idiot.
I am relatively sure that if he DID have an original thought outside of his little box, he'd straightaway stick a finger in a lightsocket to shock away such ... well, let's say it and get it over with.. thoughtcrime.

Tried to be polite, but you caught my second thoughts very nicely!

It was a good question that somebody asked President Obama about stopping charging fees and what's his action plan for this.Hans Nichols of Bloomberg I acknowledge you for that.Since conference for President is seldom happens we have to be courageous enough to ask questions critically about what is happening in our state.Since banks are having a huge demand now to their customers I think the government should take action for this.Professionals and insiders predicted that the next round of financial institution charges would be far quieter than the debit card fees which were recently dropped by some high-profile banks. They were right. Brand new charges are already beginning to appear. You may need cash advances just to pay these hidden bank fees.
