Liberal Columnist Kirsten Powers Slams Biden 'One-Child' Remark
Joe Biden's recent remark in which he said he "fully understand[s]" China's reasons for their 32-year-old one-child policy is an absolutely "appalling statement coming from an American leader."
"What’s next? Will he say he isn’t 'second-guessing' and 'fully understands' that women are stoned for adultery in Iran?"
Who said that? Michele Bachmann? Sarah Palin? Rick Santorum? Nope. Former Democratic strategist and political columnist Kirsten Powers in a post at the Daily Beast yesterday.
Here's more from Powers (emphasis mine):
When various Republican presidential candidates blasted Biden for the statement, NPR’s blog ran a story titled “Biden’s Comment on China’s One-Child Policy Spurs Anti-Abortion Ire.” This really misses the point. The media predictably frame this issue as “pro-choice vs. pro-life” when in fact it is a major human-rights issue. In particular, it’s a women’s-rights issue, which makes the silence from feminists and liberals about Biden’s comment particularly disturbing.
Reggie Littlejohn, an American attorney who founded Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, told a reporter, “China’s one-child policy causes more violence against women and girls than any other policy on earth, than any official policy in the history of the world.”
The evil ripple effects for girls of China’s gendercide are astonishing. Because of the dearth of wives, Ling says that trafficking of child brides is epidemic. She told Congress in June that “this is the kidnapping and selling of toddler girls to be raised as slaves. Today in China, 200,000 children a year, usually from poor families, are seized or sold as child brides.” Similarly, sex trafficking is exploding to “service” the overwhelming male population. Ling says girls from surrounding countries are kidnapped or lured under false pretenses and forced to work in brothels.
The “one-child” policy is a barbaric practice aimed squarely at women and has had the effect of wiping out generations of girls. If this isn’t a top women’s-rights issue in the world, I don’t know what is. And it’s not just limited to China. When Biden says he isn’t “second-guessing” the one-child policy, he is sending a frightening message to other countries, like India, where sex-selective abortions are epidemic in a country that places little value on girls.
[...]
If a television story can influence the Chinese government, imagine the impact of comments by an American vice president.
Biden has backed away from the remarks. In a statement, his press secretary said: “The Obama administration strongly opposes all aspects of China’s coercive birth limitation policies, including forced abortion and sterilization. The vice president believes such practices are repugnant. He also pointed out, in China, that the policy is, as a practical matter, unsustainable.”
Yes, he argued it was unsustainable because of the economic burden of having too few young people to support an aging population. Why can he confront the Chinese on economic policies but not human-rights violations? Furthermore, a statement from a spokesman (which, incidentally, is diametrically opposed to what he actually said) is not the same thing as a public comment by Biden. Which one do you think China is listening to?
Chai Ling told me, “Sept. 23 is the 31st anniversary of the start of China’s one-child policy. Vice President Biden should come out on that day and redeem himself by calling on China to end this policy now.”
Kudos to Powers for taking on Biden, and the liberal media, on an issue that should be of concern to Americans across the political spectrum.

Don't hold your breath. From saying he meant the opposite of what he said (must be that "nuance" thing) to claiming he never said it at all, his spokesmen are working all the angles.
Maybe he'll come out and say it was an inadvertant slip from a member of the "cracked head club."
As someone with more than one kind of experience in that area, I'm seriously beginning to wonder if Biden does indeed have some residual deficit in the "judgment" area, which is quite possible, depending on where his aneurysm was.
Really, was he this dumb before his first aneurysm?
Not sure

The brain damage is obviously much more serious than it was reported to have been.
I'd guess his IQ is somewhere around 85.

he didn't say it, unless we can provide witnesses and even then, he didn't really mean it, when he didn't say it, because he meant he meant it, but he didn't really mean it, and it's the fault of those Tea Party Terrorists, that he didn't mention.
Its quite simple really.

Its quite simple really. Those that lust after complete power and control over the citizenry, will rarely criticize those leaders that have already attained such complete control.
Biden, much like Obama and others that seek to insinuate government into every aspect of our lives, sees China's policy as the ultimate expression of government power, that being the power over life and death. It is this type of power and control that progressives/liberal/socialists seek so it is little wonder they don't want to "second guess" a government that has risen to the levels of control that they themselves seek to attain.
Biden's Stupid Statement

Overnight I've learned more about what that China policy means and does - I must be deaf and blind, cause I really didn't know all that. Yesterday I posted something about "what he really said" or "meant to say". Stupid, stupid, stupid. There was more to it than just a 'simple statement' and I missed it! So sorry! I'm sick to my stomach and sick at heart over what people do to one another. All those precious lives!
Biden is a braindead jackass who always seems to be saying stupid and ridiculous things. November 2012 can't come soon enough! Out with every blasted one of them!!

Does anyone NOT see that this entire administration, including ALL of Washington, is simply bad for business, bad for the economy, bad for jobs, bad for defense, bad for international relations, bad for world leadership, bad for the American way of life and bad for We the People?
How many times are the water-carrying lackeys in MSM going to stick their necks out and throw credibility to the wind for people who simply don't get it and most likely never will?
At some point, enough is already too much. November 2012 looms bigger than ever. Will YOU be ready, willing and able to vote them out?

Sadly there are people who don’t get it, I saw my first Obama 2012 bumper sticker today on the freeway. I was floored, whoever put that bumper sticker on their car was telling everybody I think Obama has done a good job and I want him to have four more years.

that I took Kirsten seriously. She seemed to have some sense and at least made attempts at civil discourse. She would, at times, go so far as to make concessions like this one here regarding Biden's latest foolishness.
Then I witnessed her talk about "dating" Anthony Weiner on Fox, and I decided that "she really is one of them" and that she is untrustworthy as a result.
I guess it really is true that, sometimes, telling the truth can make you untrustworthy.

For a liberal woman, I found her reasonably attractive as well. Of course, I had a little sympathy for her when Megyn Kelly smacked her down on live TV(well deserved too).
But now that she came out with having dated Weiner, I can't look at her the same way again, especially after what she said about him as well. As you point out, telling the truth can make you untrustworthy, but I look at it another way: Telling the truth can mark you for a long long time.
Now I see her the same way I see Monica Lewinsky, what decent guy would want to touch her? Yeah, I know she recently got married, but her husband can't be happy about hearing about it especially once it was revealed what a scumbag Weiner was.(not that it was a surprise to a lot of us, more like it was disgusting in the end) Lewinsky has ended up being alone because she can't get over ol' BJ Clinton.
Geez, some people....

Joe Biden isn't just a clown. It's claimed he's the one who told the press who the unit was that took out Osama bin Laden. I bitched at the time that all details should have been kept secret. He reportedly said it over the strident objections of Bob Gates and the Pentagon. But of course, that revelation had nothing to do with the subsequent Al Queda strike against the helicopter full of Seals from that same unit. Of course not. Biden should be indicted, not ignored

Abortion is not about feminine freedom and is simply all about killing children. That's the reason for the left's silence on this.
Kirsten has a point here.

To frame what Biden said as a pro-choice (the right for a woman to kill her baby) or pro-life (the babies right to be born) is not at issue here. China's policy says that the woman cannot choose. One baby and the rest will die. It is the state making the decision to kill the baby, not the mother.

Technically the state isn't forcing the abortion, a fine is just placed on the family; which makes abortion a common solution by the mother to avoid the fine.

You can get glimpes of sanity from her on Fox....Another clue is that liberal women get physically ugly over time...due to their liberalism (Wasserman-Schultz is a classic example...she used to be hot)...Kirsten Powers is still hot...so she is getting some conservative innoculation from somewhere...which has protected her from the liberal disease of "dog-face".
