CNN.com's Breaking News Bias on 'Cut, Cap and Balance' Rejection by Senate

By Ken Shepherd | July 22, 2011 | 11:10

As soon as the Senate rejected the "Cut, Cap and Balance" plan, CNN.com shot out a biased Breaking News alert to e-mail subscribers that labeled the measure as one "favored by hard-line conservative [sic]" (screen capture attached below page break):

The Senate votes 51 to 46 to table the "cut, cap and balance" bill passed earlier this week by the House, which would have imposed strict caps on all future federal spending while making it significantly tougher to raise taxes.

The House passed the measure on Tuesday, mostly along party lines. President Barack Obama said he would veto such a measure, favored by hard-line conservative, and Democrats in the Senate had said they would kill it if it passes the House.

You'll notice, of course, no mention that CNN's own poll shows nearly 2/3rds of Americans favor "Cut, Cap and Balance" and that some 74 percent want some sort of federal balanced budget amendment sent to the states for ratification.

One has to wonder if CNN thinks nearly 3/4ths of Americans are hardliners too.

The Democrats are doing us

Submitted by jkwtrading on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 11:19am.

The Democrats are doing us all a favor... they are showing once and for all they want at all costs our money for themselves.

Even the people who never pay attention to this stuff will soon pay attention. the masses will move to the right..

Not only that

Submitted by Model850 on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 3:21pm.

An article in the New York Times illustrates quite nicely how the Republicans are interested in the American people whereas the Democrats are interested only in political advantage.

Many Republicans oppose abandoning the party’s no-compromise stand against any new taxes, while many Democrats fear a “grand bargain” will undercut their party’s ability in the 2012 campaigns to use Republicans’ support of deep cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security against them.

If I were in the House I would now propose a bill even nastier than the one they voted against..each time the senate votes against the bill, give them another one even harder.

And for at least the third

Submitted by Satchmo on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 11:55am.

And for at least the third time now, NB does not discuss the content of the bill. I do agree with the highlighting of hard-line conservatives, because it wasn't hard-line conservatives who supported the bill. How anyone could be in favor of raising the debt ceiling and be described as a hard-line conservative is beyond me.

They're "discussing" the CNN article

Submitted by CobraMan on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 2:43pm.

This may have escaped your attention, three times running, but the focus of the NB article is what is in the CNN article and NOT on the contents of the bill itself. That CNN article, by the way, doesn't mention what's actually IN THE BILL! If you have a complaint, bright it up to CNN.

Democrats voted for tax and spend! Again!

Submitted by Mary Louise Turner on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 12:32pm.

Every single Democrat who voted today (except Lurch Kerry and Kirsten Gillibrand, who were absent) voted to keep the status quo. In other words, tax & spend! Even if the missing three (McCain didn't vote because he was to speak at a friend's funeral) did vote, it still would have made no difference. The Democrats are hopeless, completely hopeless.

Here's more proof of the bias pointed out above

in the "Media Mash" blogpost.

President Barack Obama said he would veto such a measure, favored by hard-line conservative, [sic] and Democrats in the Senate had said they would kill it if it passes the House. -CNN

Even though 66% of Americans want it, they still paint it as a hard-line conservative position.

If this idiot Obama is

Submitted by rbosque on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 1:09pm.

If this idiot Obama is serious about fixing the economy, he can start by not relying on crony capitalism, with its government-business-labor partnership monopolies, and his continued out-of-control fiscal policies. It's the gov't that's causing real problems with the economy by interfering with it.

Right down party lines

.......which tells me there is not one Democrat in the Senate who favors Congressional fiscal accountability to the American people.

That of course includes the two duncecaps from VA.......Warner and Webb, who once again have looked at Virginians and said "screw all of you."

And we'll end up with Timmy Kaine, or George Allen. Of course Allen is better than Kaine, but who knows what we would actually get.

Self-Disenfranchisement

Submitted by HardRightTurn on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 3:24pm.

You might have a right to, but you have no business voting on how to spend other people's money if you do not pay federal income tax. Do the decent thing and just don't go to the polls.

Voting Against The Will Of The People

Submitted by HardRightTurn on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 3:26pm.

Democrats and RINOs are making a habit of it. Their lists of political enemies must surely be growing. The primaries and November 2012 general election will be the score card.

This is why they don't deserve the name "Democratic" party.

Submitted by Phryj1 on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 9:58pm.

If at least 66% of people want something, and you block it's passage, you can no longer call yourself democratic. As I've been saying since the passage of Obamacare, there is nothing democratic about the 'Democratic' Party.

In the interest of honesty, I'd recommend a name change. Perhaps the Authoritarian Statist Socialist Party? They could even keep their mascot.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.
