MSNBC's Luke Russert: 'Democrats Are for Women's Health'

In a live stand-up via satellite from the U.S. Capitol shortly after 11 a.m. EDT today, MSNBC's Luke Russert insisted that Senate Democrats were holding up approval of spending bills to fund the federal government through the rest of the fiscal year because they were pro-environment and for "women's health," the latter of course being code for the controversial issue of federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

"Two very partisan political issues are essentially what is holding up whether or not there will be a government shutdown," Russert told anchor Thomas Roberts (emphasis mine):

But when it comes to policy, these are things that both sides do not like to give an inch on, obviously because it caters to both their special interest groups. Democrats are for the environment, Republicans are for big business. Democrats are for women's health, Republicans are pro-life. These are the same arguments we've seen in Washington for years, and they're coming now right here in the eleventh hour in terms of this government shutdown and whether or not it's going to happen.

[Video available here; Audio available here]

Of course such loaded language skews the controversy in favor of Democrats. For example, conservative Republicans would argue they are not so much pro-big business as  pro-economic growth and anti-onerous regulation.

What's more, tagging Democrats as pro-environment and pro-women's health suggests Republicans oppose environmental stewardship and women's health.

You're not the only one that thinks this.  Russert was biased but demonstrated it less initially than his colleagues but more so towards the end.  Fathead, Jr is a chip off the old blockhead without the control but still all the ambition.

I just went through four

Submitted by motherbelt on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 1:39pm.

I just went through four pages of Google results on the words "Tim Russert + "pro-life" because I wanted to see if Luke got his view from his father.

All  I got was instances of Russert questioning others on their pro-life stance. Nothing on Tim's own view.

What does this mean? The elder Russert was a true journalist; he didn't wear his beliefs on his sleeve.  He was a Catholic, so one might reasonably assume he was pro-life; but you couldn't tell from questions that he asked, and he didn't pontificate on his own views.

This apple fell far from that tree.  I can't ever imagine the elder Russert saying "Democrats are for women's health" as the opposite side of "pro-life."  He might have said that's how they describe themselves, or something similar, but I can't imagine him making that statement as if it were a well-known fact.

This just proves that young Luke Russert is no journalist. Young Luke just made a blatant, if uncomponsated, endorsement of the Democrat position.

And he doesn't even see it.  He thinks he's a reporter.

Dear Abby, My husband has a

Submitted by jdhawk on Thu, 04/07/2011 - 2:26pm.

Dear Abby,
My husband has a long record of money problems.

He runs up huge credit-card bills and at the end of the month, if I try to pay them off, he shouts at me, saying I am stealing his money. He says pay the minimum and let our kids worry about the rest, but already we can hardly keep up the interest.

Also, he has been so arrogant and abusive toward our neighbors that most of them no longer speak to us. The few that do are an odd bunch, to whom he has been giving a lot of expensive gifts, running up our bills even more.

Also, he has gotten religious. One week he hangs our with the Trinity Church of Christ and the next with people who say the Pope is the Anti-Christ and the next he's with the Muslims.

Finally, the last straw. He's demanding that before anyone can be in the same room with him, they must sign a loyalty oath.

It's just so horribly creepy!

Can you help?

Signed,

Lost in D.C.

------------------------------------------------

Dear Lost:
Stop whining, Michelle. You can divorce the jerk any time you want. You're getting to live in the White House for free, travel the world, and have others pay for everything for you. The rests of us are stuck with him for two more years!

Abby
