MRC's Bozell Notes Media Downplaying or Ignoring Schumer's 'Extremists' Hot Mic Gaffe

By NB Staff | April 02, 2011 | 13:58

A  A

Appearing on Friday's "Fox & Friends," NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center president Brent Bozell addressed how the media conveniently ignore or downplay liberal Democratic gaffes or incivility.

For example, earlier this week Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) was caught unawares on microphone laying out to fellow Democrats his partisan talking points about "extremist" Republicans and their planned budget cuts.

If House Republican leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) did that, it would be front-page news, anchor Steve Doocy suggested.

Bozell agreed.

"Let them [Democrats] undertake those kind of personal attacks and mum's the word from the same press that called for civility," Bozell noted.

"What I care about is the hypocrisy of the news media that are always lecturing Republicans on civility but are absolutely silent when" a Democrat like Barney Frank tears into a Republican like Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) as someone who "inhabits cloud koo-koo land."

Tom Marr hosted Marl Levine's

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 2:28pm.

Tom Marr hosted Marl Levine's show last night. He used the term journalistic malpractice for what is going on with the MSM. I think he nailed.

I am mad they are not covering the ATF's Operation Gunrunner/Fast and Furious. I had one of the Mexican inmates asked me about it yesterday. He had gotten a paper from his hometown and there was an article about it. The Mexican Consulate visited on Wednesday to meet with all the Mexicans. I wish he had read that paper before Wednesday he could have ask him.

I bet the MSM never mentioned McDermti talking about he was tired of reading the Constitution.

Sorry but I've heard it

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 3:48pm.

Sorry but I've heard it pronounced Levine. Could have been by liberals where I heard that. He is The Great One. He has some great guest hosts but I miss him in the way he handles idiotic callers.

If you define Great

by having the shrillest voice on the planet (other than Eleanor Clift), I concede. Otherwise, I think the term Mediocre One is much more appropriate.

ricklail,

As soon as Big Media figures out that this spans multiple administrations, it will spin it up as something that nobody can really be held to account for individually, that it is a "systemic" problem, they will hammer it home. What is worse, they will Champion Obama as being the pragmatist who is "fixing" the problem, of course with "reasonable" gun laws. And when it comes to that, the NRA will jump on board.

The Second Amendment was enumerated to ensure government was unable to execute this exact kind of corruption. Many Americans have had their right to keep and bear arms revoked, over incidents that don't involve firearms whatsoever, while government facilitates arms walking across the border using the very system they claim is to stop that very thing.

Unjust government policy has been used to supposedly justify increasing the stranglehold it has usurped over this individual Liberty. It is a shining example of how government oversteps. This scandal is bigger and more meaningful than Watergate and I too am disgusted by Big Media and their slow playing of it. I say the same about Issa and Boehner too.

This story will blow both the Second Amendment and Illegal Immigration up to National Spotlight status as seriously in need of addressing. Notice that the 2008 election saw THREE presidential debates where BOTH of these subjects avoided TOTALLY. Ridiculous!

Folks interested in this can read extensively about it here

Schumer is a fuddy-duddy

Submitted by ekslib on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 2:37pm.

stuck in the era of big government, unwilling to face the reality that we need to cut spending in a big way.
He just might be remembered in history books as the man who tried to stop fiscal reform.

Schmuckie is the main leader

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 3:51pm.

Schmuckie is the main leader but all libs in Congress don't want to face the fact we are broke.

I never bought the incivility

Submitted by TerryWest on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 2:50pm.

I never bought the incivility spiel, it came at the time the MS media wanted to change the message and reality from one of being caught red handed at blatant partisan incompetence and biased ignorance re the AZ shooter.
They wanted to change the subject and take control, it in no way was a real plea as they are the masters of manufactured partisan drama and catty munipulating incivility.

Questioning with boldness is great

Submitted by Ashrak on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 3:29pm.

but acting with boldness has to be part of that.

I would offer that something bold should happen not all that different than what Trump did with the Birth Certificate scenario.

Someone high profile should write a letter stating the reason for which they are about to do what they are about to do and send it through the post office, registered mail for proof of delivery.

Then, make an outrageous statement that matches Chuck's and when the media rakes that person over the coals, bust out that letter demonstrating that it was an all an exercise in showing just how biased media really is.

Now, obviously, that cannot happen with Chuckie's example, but it sure can with another example.

When it comes down to it, something has to give here. The idiocy that is the level of double standard has to come to an end. It is an assault to the thing we call EQUALITY.

Liberal democrats could call

Submitted by eaglewingz08 on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 11:37pm.

Liberal democrats could call black republicans macacas, oreos, uncle toms, oreos, and they will either be ignored by the lamestream media, praised by that media, or ignored by that media, but they will never be condemned. But there's not a lick of bias.
