MSNBC Passes Off Environmental Alarmist, Anti-Nuclear Activist As Expert on Food Safety, Radiation
By Ken Shepherd | March 31, 2011 | 16:23
Filling in for Martin Bashir on his eponymous program on Thursday, MSNBC's Richard Lui treated viewers to an alarmist environmentalist's take on news of trace amounts of radioactive iodine being detected in milk from cows in two West Coast states. It's believed the radiation is linked to the failed Fukushima Daiichi plant in Japan.
After noting that the Environmental Protection Agency has said the levels are "far below an amount that would be considered dangerous," Lui introduced Damon Moglen of Friends of the Earth (FOE), asking him "What do you think of what we're hearing right now with milk being affected?"
The FOE climate and energy project director jumped straight in with his talking points:
Well, I think, I think it is scary. I think it indicates that we're really facing a global disaster here. I think the bottom line is that this radioactive contamination should not be in the milk and this is coming from an industry that promised everything was safe. And it's clearly not safe and it's not clean.
So what are Moglen's credentials for asserting this? Surely he's a medical doctor or physiologist, perhaps with specializing in radiation poisoning.
Nope. According to FOE's website he's a professional political activist:
Damon leads Friends of the Earth’s Climate and Energy team. He came to FOE from Greenpeace USA where he was their Global Warming Campaign Director. Damon started his work on environmental issues with FOE in DC in 1984—since then he has worked on climate, energy and nuclear issues for nearly twenty years with Greenpeace, Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Union of Concerned Scientists. He has also worked for the ACLU as a Field Director and for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids as their International Advocacy Director. He has extensive experience directing campaigns at local, national and international levels. Damon is married to an environmental engineer at the Inter-American Development Bank, has two sons, and lives in Takoma Park.
Even so, Lui's next questions to Moglen were:
But why are we seeing the effect of milk specifically, here? Are there other products at risk?
Moglen answered that the government was "not doing a good enough job at doing monitoring and providing information."
At no point did Lui bring on a guest who disagreed with Moglen's alarm-clanging assertions, nor did Lui note that FOE opposes nuclear energy altogether, not to mention virtually any other energy source outside of wind, solar, and geothermal.

I always thought friendship was a two-way street. Seems to me when one of the friends hits you with, Earthquakes, Floods, Tornados, Tsunamis, Avalanches, Cyclones, Landslides, Sink-holes, Quicksand, Drought, Monsoons, Killer Bees, Lightning, Severe winds, No winds, Torrential Downpours, Heavy Snow, Excessive heat, Volcanoes, Icebergs, Extreme Humidity, Forrest Fires, Flash floods, Snowdrifts, Crop Blight, Mosquitoes, etc…. it’s not exactly what I would describe as a meaningful two-way friendship!

It is people like this who continue to cry that the sky is falling who need to be set straight. Problem is they think they are right and no amount of facts and logic will convince them otherwise. Typical of the left.

Although the local news folks here started off with the disclaimer that trace amounts of radiation found in SC are not in any way dangerous to the public, they still felt compelled to report trace elements of radiation in SC. If it bleeds, it leads. Thank you, idiot alarmist media.

Obama can play president on TV and Hilary can play secretary of state on TV, surely we must allow Donald Duck to play a food safety expert on TV.
Already happened

Well, not directly, but it is Disney involved. In case you haven't heard, Moochelle Soetoro (assuming Obama isn't her last name if Barry's name is Soetoro) has been making multiple rounds on the Disney Channel in the form of PSAs that tell you how to eat and etc.
Part of the indoctrination ordered by ABC.
So, yeah, it's not Donald Duck, but good prediction.

...levels here in Georgia as of today.
So if my posts start glowing a funky green color, at least you'll all know why.
LOL - Heck, we might soon be using jars of Jihad Jimmy's shelled and roasted goobers for lanterns.

Can anyone point me to the quotes, and who offered them, to the effect that nuclear energy is perfect?
This guest on MSNBC uses the word "everything" and It occurs to me that I have never ever seen any nuclear energy proponent declare such a thing.
As for the energy this fella does support, I will say it again.
For a period of one week, we should shut down all energy plants not in keeping with their demands. The enviros would be so mocked and tomato covered that they would knock off their garbage for decades.
Enough is Enough.

and I buy my milk local. If it's in Georgia I'm sure it'll be in New Hampshire soon enough. So what. How much worse is this than when the world super-powers were doing constant nuclear bomb testing? I haven't seen that comparison.
Oh yeah, I've heard it was found in west coast broccoli and spinach too. Everybody start panicking! Inform me, fine, but can the media please stop trying to worry me about something I can't control? God decides where what falls from the sky.
Certainly don't ignore it, but we need to spend less energy being alarmists here and more seeing what we can do to help Japan, which is at present in our best interest world over. Asprin might temporarily relieve a chronic headache but it doesn't remove a brain tumor; complaining about our milk doesn't fix the nuke plant. Deal with the source to minimize damage potential, then do damage control. The alarmists are wasting their obviously abundant time with counter-productive goals.
