Leftist Blogger Dismisses Black Conservative, CPAC Speaker Herman Cain As 'Minstrel'

By Ken Shepherd | February 15, 2011 | 17:18

A  A
Ken Shepherd's picture

The far-left's racially-tinged paranoia and hatred of black conservatives rears its ugly head from time to time, often without the notice let alone disapproval of the liberal mainstream media.

Herman Cain is just the latest target.

The businessman, radio host, and potential 2012 presidential aspirant was the "minstrel show" entertainment of CPAC 2011, according to Alternet's Chauncey DeVega.

[For full disclosure, Cain serves as the national chairman for the Business & Media Institute, a division of the Media Research Center, NewsBusters.org's parent company]

DeVega opened his Feb. 12 blog post with a passing swipe at all black conservatives before focusing exclusively on Cain:

As you know, I find black garbage pail kids black conservatives fascinating not because of what they believe, but rather because of how they entertain and perform for their White Conservative masters.

When race minstrelsy was America’s most popular form of mass entertainment, black actors would often have to pretend to be white men, who then in turn would put on the cork to play the role of the “black” coon, Sambo, or Jumping Jim Crow. Adding insult to injury, in a truly perverse and twisted example of the power of American white supremacy black vaudevillians would often pretend to be white in order to denigrate black people for the pleasures of the white gaze.

Herman Cain–an ironic name if ever, and one more suited to a tragic figure in a Harlem Renaissance era novella–is not “blackening twice” as some race minstrels chose to do.

[...]

Instead, Herman Cain’s shtick is a version of race minstrelsy where he performs “authentic negritude” as wish fulfillment for White Conservative fantasies. Like the fountain at Lourdes, Cain in his designated role as black Conservative mascot, absolves the White racial reactionaries at CPAC of their sins. This is a refined performance that Black Conservatives have perfected over many decades and centuries of practice.

[...]

In total, CPAC is a carnival and a roadshow for reactionary Conservatives. It is only fitting that in the great tradition of the freak show, the human zoo, the boardwalk, and the great midway world’s fairs of the 19th and 20th centuries, that there is a Borneo man, a Venus Hottentot or a tribe of cannibals from deepest darkest Africa or Papua New Guinea on display. For CPAC and the White Conservative imagination, Herman Cain and his black and brown kin are that featured attraction.

We always need a monkey in the window, for he/she reminds us of our humanity while simultaneously reinforcing a sense of our own superiority. Sadly, there are always folks who are willing to play that role because it pays so well.

Fortunately for his readers, DeVega included the full YouTube video of Cain's CPAC speech.

Watching it in its entirety shows by contrast that it's truly DeVega who's the irrelevant political sideshow:

Nice!!!  What a piece of racist, low rent trash.  Not surprising coming from the left, though.

Gosh it will be so interesting to see the MSM splash this all over the TV and front pages.  No doubt they will rage against such blatant racism and hate mongering!!!  They will go into overdrive to make sure that everyone knows of such a horrible act!!!

I kid, of course.

Wow....I'm speechless.

Submitted by NeoKong on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 5:30pm.

That has got to be one of the most obvious insulting, hateful, vicious and racist things that I have ever read.   Coon, Sambo, Jumping Jim Crow, Cannibal and monkey....?   How does this man still have a job ?   Oh that's right. He's a liberal and his taget was a conservative so any rules on race, civility or PC-ness do not apply and no one will bring it up.     I would like to see him say that to Allen West.   Chauncey would be missing a few teeth after.   That was disgusting.

Incorrect.

Submitted by NevadanConservative on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 8:52pm.

More likely missing a few vertebrae and assuming room temperature. Col. West probably still knows a few hand to hand moves.

Oh, wait... having vertebrae implies having a spine.

After that screed, a fair number of what remains of the splinters-in-crotch (from fence straddling) will be coming over to the right. Given the above racist manure, it's to be hoped that they wash the foot that was on the left side thoroughly.

Neo, I've not got any great love for p/c, never have, never will. But in point of fact, the statist only applying their rules in their favor is perfectly in line. One may lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder, or whatever, and be forgiven for all as long as it is done in the name of whatever leader. Sort of like the islamic practice of 'taqqiya', carried out to its fullest application.

Herman Cain is THE Man.

Submitted by stratman on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 9:02pm.

My thoughts as well.  While the article was vile, I remained strong in the knowledge that Herman Cain can and will, if necessary, destroy these little-minded hustlers with aplomb.

This blogger idiot forgets that Cain is well versed in handling racists, idiots, and character assassins after years in the boardroom, confronting them on his radio show, and growing up Black around haters such as this Leftist DeVega.  Kicking cancer's ass only added to the mental toughness and genuine love of life Mr. Cain has.  In comparison, DeVega is the boil on the ass of the flea on the ass of a mangy dog.

Never underestimate a warrior like Cain

Submitted by c5then on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 5:57pm.

If the subject had been a liberal and the author a conservative blogger, we would be hearing a deafening and continuous howling comming from the left asking for the author to be drawn and quartered. This is why the left is losing any relevance to most of America...they continually accuse conservatives of being racists but then prove that they are with screeds like this.

Submitted by 10ksnooker on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 6:03pm.

Do you know you are a member of the party of the KKK? What you think Lincoln formed the KKK?

Extra credit question ... Did you know the Democrat Party started the Civil War? Yep they used their super majorities to pass the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 Which altered the slave/free state balance towards slave states. Linclon and the conservatives bolted the Whig party formed the aboloionist Republican Party and elected Lincoln it's first president.

But I am sure you knew. Proud aren't you. Just hoped no one else knew.

Oh yeah, the KKK ... It was formed after the Civil War, about 1875 as the Democrat's terror wing to keep control of the south and the Democrat party.

Submitted by JRL0912 on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 6:14pm.

You can ALWAYS tell what (who) the Libs are scared to death of.....they relentlessly and rabidly attack....attack....attack.  Add Mr. Cain's name to Palin and Bachman. POLITICO did the same "dismissing" of Herman. Look for more as he surfaces as a real candidate.....I am a 65 year old white guy who hopes he is there in 2012 so I can work enthusiastically for his election. He would kill "O" in a debate.  If you haven't heard his life story, it's worth looking up.

There are no persons in either party with the credentials he packs around either.

Anybody care to bet that the 'republican' elitists will do everything they can to deflect his candidacy and block him at every turn to protect their own?

When you get the 'beg letters' wanting donations, send it back with a check unsigned and with the notation on the check that you will provide a signed check as soon as Herman is the official nominee.

It they get 10,000 unsigned checks for $100.00 each, they will make more of an effort.....

Submitted by LAM SON 719 on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 7:01pm.

The left is extremely frightened when some unruly negro decides to wander off the plantation alone. The garbage from this Devega idiot only reinforces the fact that the left wants to keep black ignorant and under control. In the eyes of the left the black is only entitled to the opinion that the liberals give them, independent thought is not allowed. Devega??? Sounds like it might be some of that old Hispanc on black hatred.

Who is DeVega?

Submitted by Herbster on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 7:29pm.

I am familiar with Herman Cain......Businessman, Radio host, Speaker, Author, Conservative.  I am aware of all the successes he has had in life, NOT through affirmative action, but by HARD WORK.  I sense that this is the reason he, and other black conservatives are loathed by the prostitutes - male and female - that infest today's media.  They loathe Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Shelby Steele. Star Parker, Herman Cain, and yes, even Bill Cosby.  These people of leadership in their chosen fields, dedicated, respected and admired, are the enemies of Liberalism because they don't, dare I say it, stay on the sterile plantation of the Left ala Jackson, Sharpton and their ilk as the left feels they should.

Now to my question.  Who is DeVega?  As I stated above, I am very familiar with Herman Cain, but I never heard of this angry, ignorant leftist.   Are we referring to "Da Vega," the unsuccessful Chevrolet car?

Modest means, starting from the bottom and working his way up NOT through handouts BUT WORKING HIS WAY UP.

SUCCESSFUL in every venture, damn, this USED to be the american dream, but the libtards have changed the ideal to somehow include the need for a SUCCESSFUL Black man to be forced into a certain role, I will take Allen West, Marco Rubio and Herman Cain over Oblunder and day of the week.

This blogger would lack the gravitas to say this too his face and Politco can shove it as well.

If Cain were a Dem, he would be a god to the media, for now, he is just a leg tingle for me an anyone that really wants to think outside the box and the usual "candidates".

You left out EVERY so-called 'leader' in both the house and senate from both parties, as well as the majority of the rank and file members of those two bodies. (And that is heavy on the RANK, as in putrid)

I still want to know why, during the CPAC soiree was Mr. Cain not one of the contenders for the Presidency in any of the straw polls they continually shout as the 'leading choices'.

Was his name not included for fear of the slapdown that would have ocurred with a 98% rating?

HUMMM, Herman Cain and Col. Allen West. Now that sounds like a Real Ticket for 2012. Probably will not happen but, not a bad idea. The one thing that I fear most is that Obama has turned the eyes and thoughts of some Moderate Democrats, Republican and Independents against Black Politicians and that would be a real shame for there are many great black people that could fill those shoes in DC. As an observation I have noticed that when a person of intelligence (conservatives) stand up and speak the Liberals go on the attack with low life statements etc. wonder if that meane the Libs know they can not stand on smarts alone and are out classed? I thinkl so.

And, yes I`m a white guy 70 yrs old and have been around the block many times. I changed from Democrat to Republican in 1965 when I saw that the Democrat Party started leaning towards Communism.
