MSNBC's Ratigan Falsely Claims GOP Senator's Ad Contained Geographical Gaffe

MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan is apparently so intent on depicting Republican candidates for office as stupid that he's willing to make asinine assertions to do it.

Today in his "Ads Gone Bad" segment, Ratigan falsely insisted that an ad by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) attacking his Democratic opponent Rep. Charlie Melancon communicated to viewers that "illegal immigrants [were] crossing the border into Louisiana."

Ratigan showed a clip of the Vitter campaign ad and then quipped:

Exactly where in Louisiana would you put the welcome sign? I hope all those illegal immigrants packed their swim trunks.

In the ad in question, illegal immigrants are shown crawling through a man-sized hole in a chain-link fence only to be greeted by a marching band and well-wishers bearing a welcome sign reading "Charlie Melancon Welcomes You to the USA."

The same group of well-wishers then presents the border jumpers with an oversized check made out to "ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS" in the amount of "A LOT OF TAXPAYER MONEY" drawn from the United States treasury.

The border fence with a hole and welcome sign is clearly an eye-catching metaphor for liberals' lax approach to illegal immigration.

Nothing in the Vitter ad argues that Louisiana shares a border with Mexico. Instead the narrator lays out Vitter's arguments based on Melancon's votes in Congress:

ANNOUNCER: Charlie Melancon. Thanks to him, we might as well put out a welcome sign for illegal aliens. Melancon voted to make it easier for illegals to get taxpayer-funded benefits and actual welfare checks. Melancon even voted against allowing police to arrest illegals. Thanks to Charlie Melancon, it's not wonder illegals keep coming and coming and coming.

... that there are illegal aliens in non-border states? like here in North Carolina (no Wahoos welcome)? or Colorado (what comes from Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas)? or even, hmmm, Massachusetts (Yankees go home)?

A huge influx of illegals since Katrina? A lot of them came here to make the easy Gov money, unfortunately, when the shady contractors that bought them here left, they stayed.

This is a great ad

Causing a big stink down here, everyone begging for an apology. I know Vitter is not the most popular guy in the Senate, but he is a good Conservative. And if it were not for his previous transgressions, I think he would be standing shoulder to shoulder with DeMint

You are correct. What you dont hear about is the smuggling of illegals during shrimping season. They hop from mexico, Galveston on into Lake Charles to Morgan City. This summer, I had a "temp" job and you would not believe the number of illegals I met. The newspapers dont identify them as illegals  but along the levees, at camps, the illegals hide out, clean out the camps, then move on west or east along I-10 depending on harvest season in Fla. The I-10 corridor is a huge drug and gun smuggling operation. I still have friends in law enforcement who tell me some of the stories about the huge amount of drugs they confiscate. Recently, 2 state troopers were shot and wounded during a traffic stop. In Lafayette, an illegal was stopped and found to have 14 AK-47's in the trunk of his car. It was his 3rd arrest.

Vitter is very careful about discussing the issue of illegals but generally votes very conservative. I have met Vittar at a Town Hall meeting in Lafayette and was not overly impressed. But I can assure you, no one wants Melancon in office. A scoundrel of the Edwards era if you know what I mean..

Earth to Ratigan. What is

Submitted by danbo on Thu, 10/21/2010 - 9:27pm.

Earth to Ratigan. What is that on the other side of Texas? That big area to the south?

Of course illegals always stop at that stop light for illegals in Texas.

Ratigan, Does Prostitution Not Do It For You Anymore?

Submitted by The7Sticks on Thu, 10/21/2010 - 11:02pm.

Why make stuff up when you can mine the truth to your heart's  content? You realize that douchebag Vitter was caught patronizing prostitutes with taxpayer money, don't you? Does prostitution not have the same impact anymore as falsifying a mapping gaffe? This is why any side who doesn't take advantage of the truth will lose every time.

Let's say, just for the sake

Submitted by mattm on Fri, 10/22/2010 - 9:51am.

Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that Rat-face is right and Vitter has geographical challenges...  So, is he saying it would be better to elect someone who thinks illegal aliens should be treated just like citizens?

The truth is these Alynskiites don't believe in borders... Like Governor Moonbeam who said, to loud cheers, that he is going to encourage voting even by those who are "undocumented."
