TVNewser is reporting that "20/20" co-anchor John Stossel is leaving ABC News to join the Fox Business Network:
TVNewser has learned Stossel will host a weekly, one-hour program for the 2-year-old business channel. He's expected to signed a multi-year deal with Fox which will include regular appearances on Fox News Channel during daytime and primetime. He'll also host four, hour-long specials on Fox News, much like the business/consumer specials he'd hosted for years on ABC.
Stossel, a libertarian, has been appearing on Fox News for years as a guest on shows including "The O'Reilly Factor," "Hannity & Colmes" and "The Big Story."
Stossel joined "20/20" in 1981 and was upped to co-anchor in 2003. TVNewser has learned there was a window in Stossel's ABC contract which allowed him to jump to Fox.

I wonder
September 10, 2009 - 13:06 ET by katainkentif they can redo the healthcare special that ABC didn't run.

Can their ratings get any better? LOL!

September 10, 2009 - 13:31 ET by mattmA great day for FOX, maybe, but a bad day for the non-cable TV viewers. Stossel was one of the very few credible people in the MSM.
FOX needs to get onto over-the-air TV.

I always looked forward to his segments on fox!

September 10, 2009 - 12:47 ET by SickofLibsNobody methodically dissects a story like Stossel.
One thing I definitely
September 10, 2009 - 13:00 ET by black47211One thing I definitely admire about Mr. Stossel is that he won't say anything about any topic until he has fully researched it. I remember on one of his visits to Glenn Beck that he was asked his opinion about something, but consistently deferred making a statement until he had better knowledge of that subject. Character like that doesn't come along very often.
His desision to come to FOX probably has Olbermann and Maddow and the gang at MSNBC wetting their panties. Awesome.

Stossel's stories make the complex very simple to understand
September 10, 2009 - 13:49 ET by LSBeeneI love watching John Stossel because, IMO, he makes complex issues very simple - and he give examples and asks good questions.
And best of all, no matter WHO he is questioning, if he agrees with them or does not, he plays devil's advocate - that's a great thing.
Good for him and good for Fox.

September 10, 2009 - 12:53 ET by sic721Fox is the "NY Yankees of the media", snapping up all the best talent out there. Now if they could only sign Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Jeri Thompson, maybe Jake Tapper, etc., we'd be rolling!

I have mixed feelilngs about this.
September 10, 2009 - 12:58 ET by cjbreischI have mixed feelings about this. Good for Stossel. I'm sure he'll get more respect from his coworkers there.
But, bad for us. Stossel's one of the few good guys remaining in the MSM.
I have mixed feelings as well.
September 11, 2009 - 07:17 ET by mom_roxSome people, like my mother, do not get cable channels. It's not as if ABC will replace him with another libertarian or a conservative.

September 10, 2009 - 13:27 ET by PrairieSkyStossel has been one of the few voices of reason at ABC for quite a long time, and I was wondering how much longer he would continue there. He's been appearing on Fox News more and more often the last year or two, and I think this is a good move for him and for Fox Business Network (which is a great channel, btw).

It strikes me as funny (bitterly so) that it wouldn't take too big of a lifeboat to hold the dissenting voices on the MSM channels. After Stossel, and maybe Santelli - who? Tapper is more honest than most, but still liberal. :)

Why does over the air Fox not have a nightly news show to compete with the 3 clown networks? That would be a great way to spread truth to the masses.
ABC is bleeding patsies.
September 10, 2009 - 16:21 ET by deerjerkydaveABC is bleeding patsies. Who's next? Tapper? George Will?
ABC will probably replace Stossel with somebody from the Obama or Clinton administrations. I hear Van Jones might be looking for a new job! I'm sure they'd love him over at ABC news.
I always knew Stossel would make this move

Good luck Mr. Stossel
September 10, 2009 - 20:47 ET by wearyHis perspective is always a refreshing alternative to the typical network group-think. But his departure troubles me.
To my knowledge, only ABC's Jake Tapper and Brian Ross are left to provide reporting that is not completely wedded to the liberal elite's pet causes.
In the battle for the minds of the occasional news consumers or political moderates, these other voices behind enemy lines are vital. The undecided audiences who hear the continuing downplaying of Fox and talk radio are likely to be swayed by the the liberal media's volume, the solidarity and its remnants of “credibility.”
Well, if nothing else, I like that our guys in the old media are burrs in liberal's saddles!

September 10, 2009 - 20:59 ET by Cool ArrowFOX is proof that a monopoly can provide excellence without even the hint of a competitor to push for greater excellence?
This should not occur in the real world, but it has.
Where is the competition?
Again we win. Stossell wins. Fox wins (mostly our respect, since FOX has no competition)
And in a sense, ABC wins. They don't have to worry about charges of fairness in reporting ever being levelled against them.
