In only the latest example of how out of touch Newsweek magazine truly is with reality, the magazine Web site's Conventional Wisdom feature for December 5 praised an institution with lower poll numbers than outgoing President George W. Bush.
That's right, Newsweek gave a back-slap to the Democratic Congress for doing what it does best: preachy grandstanding, particularly in service of left-wing economic lunacy such as fresh mandates for "green" technology from Detroit:
In giving the Big Three the hairy eyeball, Capitol Hill seems to have suddenly rediscovered what oversight means

when was the last time newsweek EVER gave any democrat ...
December 8, 2008 - 11:51 ET by pmohbuckless than a "both ways"? hard to give anything with a 9% approval rating an "up arrow" ... but note that george bush's approval rating more than doubles congress and the only "up arrow" newsweek will give him is the day he leaves office.
with that same mentality, newsweek will report that the "majority" of americans support obama's decision to w/draw from iraq yet doesn't question that a consistant 75-80% of americans want to drill for oil ... and the People's wishes go unnoticed by newsweek and, more importantly, their representatives in washington.
this kind of reporting, along with the neverending stream of obama covers, proves they're not even slightly interested in hiding the bias ... obama's win was the mainstream media's "coming out" party.
Yep, 'cause there's no way
December 8, 2008 - 11:53 ET by HockeyKidYep, 'cause there's no way to successfully run any business without oversight by two know-nothing organizations run by a couple of Poli-Sci majors who've spent their entire adult lives barricaded away from the real world.
'dja ever notice that Poli Sci majors never say what their degree was in once they get into office? Check out their bios some day--all they ever say is "BS from So-and-So University". Cockroaches.

December 8, 2008 - 12:42 ET by Ken ShepherdThis is where I sheepishly admit that I have a BA in government and politics. But a) I readily admit it was an easy major, especially for me a news and politics junkie and b) I'm not trying to tell business how to run other than calling for government to get out of the way and let it work with low taxes and regulation.
See? Now that's the

Re: the quote in your tag
December 8, 2008 - 14:42 ET by HockeyKidI hate to break it to Hussein, but responsibility is an old, old ethic. Getting Democrats to live by it, now THAT might be something new. Why, they might quit doing things like getting their political opponents run off the ballot, or backing out on campaign-finance promises, and stuff like that...

I thought Congressional oversight
December 8, 2008 - 14:07 ET by JeffWeimerwas for Government agencies and GSEs...Whoops! It is! How well did they do with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, anyway?
The way this was presented shows the ignorance of the writer. He assumes that the Government runs everything anyway so they should have oversight as a matter of course.
Corporations have their own oversight body, it's called the Board of Directors. Too bad they didn't do enough (except maybe at Ford) to head this off. Now they have TWO boards - theirs and Congress.
Government has never

Yes congress has extremely
December 9, 2008 - 01:28 ET by respectfulconservativeYes congress has extremely low approval ratings and yes it is led by democrats. But that did not stop democrats from making big gains in both houses of congress in the recent elections.
Thus I think you need to refrain from assuming that voter's low approval of congress means voters hate democrats. The democratic brand is still strong for now. A more useful guage is a more direct question: absent a specific candidate, which party would you support in a generic election for your senator or congressman?
The answer is simple..
