"Despite budget deficit, 50 Streets and Sanitation superintendants to get raises" read the August 13 Chicago Tribune headline. Apparently the water bottle-taxing, (formerly) foie gras-banning Windy City has a nasty budget deficit and rank-and-file labor union guys have been asked by liberal Mayor Richard Daley (D) to make sacrifices in pay and benefits for the city's good.
So you can imagine the ire of union leaders when politically connected bureaucrats are getting bonuses despite a whopping $425 million shortfall. Surely the Tribune would dutifully note the Democratic party affiliation of the city's chief executive.
Of course not.
Now, I've heard it all before: "Ken, this is Chicago, it goes without saying the city is owned lock, stock, and barrel by the Democratic Party."
But be that as it may, doesn't it behoove the city's newspapers to report the party affiliation of elected officials, particularly in stories that involve the compensation of politically-connected bureaucrats? Do major metropolitan city newspapers owe it to their readers to report, rather than assume readers know, the political affiliations of elected officials reported on in a negative light?

shocking
August 13, 2008 - 23:18 ET by candanceWhen the government raises taxes they spend the money just as fast and still end up with a deficit? I'm shocked to find that out!
The next plan of attack: find a local business that actually clears a profit and attempt to extort the extra money out of them.
And we're actually supposed to trust these people with our healthcare. I want in on the pool of how long it would take them to bankrupt that system too.
You are exactly right Ken

Truth in Advertising: Tribune Company, empty shell of great past
August 14, 2008 - 01:23 ET by OneLoyalAmericanWhen "The World's Greatest Newspaper" vanished from her banner marks when the Chicago Tribune became an official propaganda arm of dNC Chicago.
Without the Chicago Tribune's hit job on Geri Ryan's ex-husband; Barry Hussein Obama would still be casting his meaningless "present" votes in Springfield.
Today, as far as "news" goes, the Chicago Tribune brand name is meaningless. "Trib" circulation and credibility is in a fatal tailspin. Chicagoland news hounds turn to the Daily Herald; which easily bridged the 'Trib's credibility gap by keeping opinions on the opinion page.

Unions love the democrats
August 14, 2008 - 01:50 ET by ScrapironUnion leader and democrats have one thing in common. They rip off every dollar they can from the workers.
The democrats depend on the unions for votes (mostly from dead people) and the Union leaders depend on the democrats to keep them out of prison. It's going to be funny when the (more) union workers who paid in for years find they have no vested pension (it was spent long ago by the union leaders and democrat politicians), but will have to depend on government welfare to live in retirement.
Hussein O fits right in. Today he made a proposal that will raise gas by at least 50 cents per gallon and federal taxes by at least 25%. I hope you can afford this rich elitest AH.
Old, Retired and glad of it.

August 14, 2008 - 07:20 ET by CrashWhat's more important to walk away with here is not the fact that the MSM are up to their fascist shenanigans, but, that another DEMOCRAT mayor has run another US city into the ground with big union government using solid DEMOCRAT tax & spend principals.
What is equally important
August 14, 2008 - 08:19 ET by Hunter12What is equally important to realize is that the Democrats managed to ruin a city that was quite possibly one of the more vibrant and enegized places in the country a few short years ago. It's still a great place to visit. I think this all stems from a crop of West Coast advisors that Gov Rod brought in to advise him to appear more presidential on a national front. You know the drill. The state doesn't pay their local pharmacists the bills they're owed for accepting medical cards and the governor advised people to get their prescriptions filled in Canada and also wants to add more people the state won't pay for to the welfare roles. Looks good to some idiot from California, but it doesn't sit well in fly-ovr country. Anyway, these advisors must of had some time on their hands and started talking Daley into taxing water bottles and such, like the flakes and nuts like to do.
