Newsweek CW: Up Arrow for Chinese; May Be Dictators, But They Aren't Isolationist!

Screencap of Newsweek from 5/13/08 | NewsBusters.orgNewsweek's Conventional Wisdom feature has oft been the target of much snarkage here at NewsBusters, and the featurette failed to disappoint today with this doozy:

[Up Arrow] Chinese government: Unlike Burma's generals, officials are responding quickly and openly to natural disaster.

Ya think?! I mean, they're only hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics so clearly they've been hard at work putting the finishing touches on that Potemkin village. But that doesn't excuse China's human rights abuses or merit them kudos by any stretch, nor does it address how Communist Chinese building codes might be woefully substandard compared to say capitalistic Japan, which is far more often wracked by large-scale earthquakes.

If they want to earn another

If they want to earn another up arrow from CW, the Chinese can find a way to blame the quake or any related problems on George W. Bush.

sorry, it's already yet

sorry, it's already yet another consequence of global warming

up-arrow: china may be single-handedly causing gorebal warming without any liberal complaints whatsoever, but at least Bush sucks

I'm shocked that Newsweek

I'm shocked that Newsweek didn't say "[Up Arrow] Chinese government: Unlike the Bush administration, officials are responding quickly and openly to natural disaster."

Scout, Expect a call from

Scout,

Expect a call from the Newsweek hiring office shortly.

I'd be in like Flynn, Chris,

I'd be in like Flynn, Chris, because I know the template for every story they write. It's like predicting the future, according to Newsweek.

Scout,I've said before, you

Scout, I've said before, one can make this stuff up, because where the Democrats and the liberal media are concerned, what's satire today is reality tomorrow. You, though, have them down pat.

Ask female babies how well

Ask female babies how well the Chinese government is.

"They need to have a course in college called common sense and everyone should take it. Problem is there isn't too many people that could pass or teach it." -my grandfather

To be fair, the government

To be fair, the government of China does not sanction the pre- or post-birth infanticide of females. In fact, I belive it is now illegal for parents to be informed of the sex of their babies before birth. Certainly it happens due to bribery, etc., but it is not sanctioned. The government of the PRC is also concerned about the growing inbalance in the male/female ratio, not least because it can lead to unrest in the future.

The imbalance is result of a traditional culture which favors boys over girls. Certainly the 1-child policy creates a pressure which drives more people to it, but that is not the intent of the policy. The 1-child policy itself is being relaxed to some extent, for example allowing exceptions when both parents are single children, in the case of certain minority groups, etc. I even have a coworker who told me recently that he intended to have an additional child even though it means a fine would have to be paid.

Newsweek fools! China has been propping up the Burma thugs!

The standards in journalism schools must be getting even lower.

Ken...I am very glad you

Ken...I am very glad you brought this up...I was checking different stations late last night and caught a report on this earthquake disaster in China on a repeat of Anderson Cooper 360 I think it was...anyway some reporter I have never heard of presented the breath-taking report in glowing terms of how quickly the govt./military there had responded to the aide of the people ....it was soooo blatant as to intentionally insinuate the situation in Katrina and compare it to Pres. Bush...an intentional poke in the eye again...they never stop in the msm of all venues....

I have some advice for all of them with their glowing agenda's....move to communist China and smile be happy... don't let the door hit you in the arse on you way out....and please do us all a favor, do not return...the less of you leftist critters with an agenda the better.

By the way...my heart goes out to the people there and their losses.

I'd expect nothing less.

It would be better for

It would be better for everyone if they were isolationist.
