Newsweek: Who's Less Liberal? Romney or Giuliani?

"Rudy v. Romney: Which one is least [sic]* liberal?"

So asks a teaser headline in the Newsweek.com front page "light box" slideshow (pictured at right). The link takes readers to Newsweek assistant editor Andrew Romano's article, "Forget 'Conservative.' Who's the 'Least Liberal' GOP Frontrunner?"

Conservatives examining whom to support in the primary elections might do well to welcome an examination of both candidates and how they have departed from GOP orthodoxy on numerous social and fiscal issues. And while Rudy and Mitt aren't the only candidates being grilled by conservative activists for less-than-conservative positions, it's a good starting point, even if much of Romano's piece is snarky in tone (which it is).

But now the question is when will the news weekly get around to asking which, if any, of the Democratic front runners "is least conservative," as laughable as the suggestion may be? Or better yet, to examine which Democratic candidate is the truest distilled liberal in terms of social and fiscal policy?

But then, that would require admitting the Democratic lineup is, well, liberal, as well as pinning down which of Hillary Clinton's positions she's taken she actually believes.

* "Least" is a superlative adjective and implies the presence of three or more options. "Which one is less liberal?" would be the correct wording in this case, since only two are presented for comparison.

Newsweeks road map to oblivion and for its employees, the unemployment line continues.  It is a trash magizine.

Why even ask how dead is dead

How wet is water, how dead is dead or how white is white?

That is the kind of degrees which this question is. Rudy is the typical Jerry Ford moderate and Mitt is the typical Jerry Ford moderate.

Ford could get you comfy like having an old fat general in charge of the military in peace time, but when you want a leader you need Patton.
History shows that FDR only was worth a fig when George Marshall was in control and Eisenhower was so wishy washy to the Brits that it cost lives time and again.......and it was not until Patton started pounding the bajesus out of Germans that Ike got any backbone.

Wishy Washy got Kennedy elected because Ike wouldn't open the buying presses to upturn the economy for Nixon.

Sure I would vote for Rudy and Mitt compared to the peaceniks on the Democratic side....but you need an a** kicker like Nixon and Reagan to win on the world stage..........Rudy, Mitt and the cronic John Anderson reincarnated as Ron Paul with a Texas twang like Ross Perot are all fat old generals. We do not live in a fat old general world right now and we are going to need a Reagan like Fred Thompson surrounded by a** kickers as this world is approaching a Eurasian world war.

Newsweek can ramble on about how hot is hot, but the days of Clinton pee warm water is over. America needs a man in charge.

Right

They're just doing their best to turn off conservative voters which in turn results in low voter turn out.  This helps Democrats.  This is also why Big Media won't ask this type of question from Democrat candidates.

The reality is that both Romney and Guiliani are far to the right of Hillary, Obama, and Edwards and would be infinitely better for this country and its freedoms.

The good news is... the voters will have another choice and a real conservative to vote for.

Rudy and Mitt. Mitt and Rudy. I don't see much difference between the two because they are both RINOS.

Fred

I like Fred too, but he too has held some not-so-conservative positions.  For example he was a big supporter of McCain-Feingold.

I certainly don't like Huckabee.  He's a big tax and spend Republican.  News alert to Republicans:  government should not be used as a charitable organization.  In my state of California, two thirds of the education budget never even reaches the classroom.  And then they beg for more money!  That's what I call a terrible return on my dollar.  If  people want to be charitable, give it to a private organization or a church, they will get better mileage out of their dollars.

Actually CT, there is a

Actually CT, there is a difference between Mitt and Rudy, Mitt is a deceptive liberal whereas Rudy is a  straightforward liberal.  Mitt tells us he is a conservative, but he isn't by his actions.  On the other hand Rudy tells us he is liberal but is willing to work with us.  If you had to choose between the two, who would you trust???  The one who deceives or the one who is truthful.

Of course there are more choices like Fred or Duncan who seem to be closer to the mark.  However, any ticket with Rudy is preferable to the alternative of any Dem in the current running.

Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. dscott's corollary: The line between malice and stupidity is called depraved indifference.

ARE YOU INSANE?

One sodomite loving baby killer is just as good as another! What the heck is wrong with you? What difference does it make if we're more secure as we become MORE LIKE Sodom?  You're willing to sell out the children of our future for TAX CREDITS???? You can't serve God and mammon (money), dude. And as Liberal a piece of feculant waste as Guiliani is, at least he's a HONEST piece of feculant waste! Romney is the worst sort of BABY KILLING FIEND! He's one who'd LIE about it as the blood of newborns drips from his fangs...SEE FOR YOURSELVES, NEW UNSEEN TAPES of ROMNEY vehemently asserting his baby killing "street cred"....here watch as he indignantly wants to silence who ever has lied and called him "PRO-LIFE'!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKwVNUz52vo

Be further astounded and amazed as MITT ROMNEY BRAGS ABOUT HIS BABY KILLING ROOTS and how they go all the way back to MAMA! Listen with heartache as he says, "I DO NOT TAKE THE POSITION OF A PRO LIFE CANDIDATE". Listen to how sharp he is with the questioner for DARING to call him "PRO-LIFE"! And then you tell me again why you'd vote for this baby killing piece of scum? http://youtube.com/watch?v=P_w9pquznG4

The truth shall set you free!

Take A Breath

Take a breath Keith.  Romney converted to the pro-life position and came down on the side of life EVERY TIME while governor of MA.  That's evidence to  me that his conversion is as sincere as can be and I trust he would continue to practice pro-life measures as President.  So his conversion isn't just in words, its solidified by his actions.

Guiliani is harder to defend since he still supports abortion to degrees, but he still is far to the right when compared to Hillary or Obama who delight in abortions and actually want people to have more of them!

Newsweek has this one right

Pardon the pun.

Between Rudy and Mitt, it's really a question of who is less liberal. If you truely want a Conservative, there is Tancreedo, Huckabee or Thompson (my favorite). If you are a radical Libertarian, there is Ron Paul.

Political Test

This was the first test that I came across that does a fair job of rating candidates based on platform.

http://www.msnbc.msn...

it was also the first test that convinced me that Fred is a strong candidate over the rest.

Between Mitt and Rudy, who is more liberal? How do you define liberal these days...because the label conservative and liberal has been severely abused.

Leave it to NEWSWEEK of all

Leave it to NEWSWEEK of all magazines to tell us what is and is not conservative.

I WANT TO THINK FOR MYSELF, THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Anywho, this topic seems perfect for sarc ;)
