"Recruiting the next generation of militants. A Mickey Mouse-like character reaches out to Palestinian children."
That's how CNN's Jim Clancy, co-host of "Your World Today" teased a May 9 story about the infamous rodent that hosts an Hamas-funded TV show geared towards little children. (see related NB post here)
Video (0:34): Real (960 kB) or Windows (1.06 MB), plus MP3 (492 kB).
After the theme music for "Your World Today" concluded, Clancy and co-host Rosemary Church took turns setting up the terror mouse story.:
CLANCY: "We begin with a powerful message of hatred, resistance, and defiance in the Middle East."
CHURCH: "Now, normally we see such emotions displayed in the streets with violent attacks, but when children are on the receiving end of these messages, it stirs up some controversy."
No foolin,' Sherlock.
Update 23:53 | Matthew Sheffield After the offensive show was exposed online and in the media, Hamas has put the show "under review."

May 9, 2007 - 18:09 ET by Dan The Man 2I put the mouse up on my international blog and the resident Muslim spoke up. This is what he said "Do you feel proud to revive a dead thread? Do you still feel that you're not a hypocrite? Do you still think that you're Jesus (BTW, don't go burning a congregation please)?
Gosh, you really have no brain do you?"
Yes the average age on the blog is probably 17.

"Reaches out"? The mouse does reach out to kids. To turn them into suicide bombers.
Where's the bias here? You certainly didn't explain it in this entry.

May 9, 2007 - 18:42 ET by jdhawkOK, FF, just imagine that Mickey was being used to explain trickle down economics to school children in the United States by our government. Yes, the example is purposely benign. The drive-by media would scream indoctrination. The liberals in congress would hold hearings. Members of the fringe left like moveon.org would create TV ads villifying the venture.
But when children are taught to hate and later in their young lives to destroy themselves and others by suicide bombing, the reaction by CNN International is simply, "it stirs up some controversy."
Meanwhile, this video has been around the "net" for several days. Yet, we have had none of the usual suspects (NBC, ABC, CBS, etc) show the video and/or relay this terrible story to the American people. We haven't had the UN convene a special session to condemn it and the perpertrators. We haven't had the various human rights groups demand public air time to express their outrage (for example, on Human Rights Watch, the lead story is: "Walmart Denies Workers Basic Rights." We haven't had the other 21 Mid-east countries' leadership condemn it.

May 9, 2007 - 19:08 ET by FactFiendActually, JD, CNN International reacted by calling it "a powerful message of hatred, resistance, and defiance in the Middle East," as was noted in Newsbusters' original entry.
And no one has answered my original question: Why do we care that a CNN anchor said the terrorist mouse was "reaching out" to children?

May 10, 2007 - 15:47 ET by liberal_bug_zapperWow FF, I guess people like you will never ever understand why we balk at the consistent one sided nature of the news. The calm muted reation to this Evil telling children that killing themselves as martyrs and killing others in the process is good, compared to the media's reaction to un-proven claims of abuse or otherwise by our troops is just sick. We have media people falling over themselves wanting to bash American troops for defending themselves, while our enemy is indoctrinating children over the airwaves. You'd think they'd start to back away from their blatant support for these murdering savages, but they don't. And then, people like you come in and try and gloss over these issues, and scream that the US is over reacting when murdering scum come into our country and murder thousands.

Liberals = Apologists for Islamo-fascism
May 11, 2007 - 09:35 ET by Sergeant ROCKLiberals go out of of their way to excuse or otherwise 'apologize' for the actions of Islamo-fascists while at the same time accuse their political enemies of virtually the same actions! Which is, of course, a symptom of their mentall illness.
At present, I don't know of any 'mouse' calling Jewish children to a cause that justifies suicide bombings, among other things.

CNN
May 9, 2007 - 18:42 ET by pbthinkerI would love to know the story, behind this story, on how it eventually made it on to CNN. After listening to Glen Beck this morning, he was told to pull the piece last night. Somehow, they must have had an epiphany. Is this another example of how CNN operated in Iraq, not presenting stories for fear they would lose their bureau? We know how CNN treats the U.S., they show snipers killing our soldiers and spout terrorist propaganda, with little regard for sensitivity. Now we see the other side and how "sensitive" they are. Will CNN explain their position on this? The world waits, and waits, and waits........

May 9, 2007 - 21:25 ET by c5thenI saw this on FoxNews days ago. Apparently CNN thought they would just ignore it like they do all the other truths about the "palestinians". I guess they were shamed into finally reporting on it because of the stir that the story caused on FOX.

May 10, 2007 - 08:23 ET bySo the violent attacks on the streets do not stir up controversy? Does that woman realize the implication of her statement? It is as if her heart is not even in her news reporting. She is just doing what she does, to get her paycheck. Perhaps that is largely what is wrong with the main-stream media; their hearts are not in it.
