Will Elisabeth Hasselbeck Support Hillary Clinton?

Is ‘The View’s’ token non-liberal Elisabeth Hasselbeck drifting leftwards? In a letter to Barbara Walters she hinted she may actually vote for Senator Hillary Clinton. On the November 19 edition of "The View," creator and co-host Barbara Walters read a letter from Elisabeth Hasselbeck updating the co-hosts on her new born baby Taylor Thomas and the congratulatory letter she received from Senator Clinton.

"Well, you know if you watch the show, you that Elisabeth is our resident Republican. Okay, alright? Fine. Taylor Thomas received an official letter from Senator Hillary Clinton today, wishing him well. She said ‘truly a most thoughtful and warm act. I may actually change my vote.’" [applause]

Hasselbeck is usually the sole right of center voice on "The View," typically outnumbered two to one and sometimes three to one. She gained much of her fame from the notorious on air fight with former co-host Rosie O’Donnell. If this conversion turns to be true, there will be no voices on "The View," going into the 2008 election, providing a Republican perspective.

So WHY would Elizabeth

So WHY would Elizabeth Hasselbeck change her vote? Because she got a nice letter from HRC when her baby was born? Even without the $500 "baby bond"?

If that's all it takes to buy her vote, she is pathetic.

I thought it was supposed to

I thought it was supposed to be a $5000.00 baby bond.

Lizzie Hasselbeck

Hasselbeck never was a strong conservative voice in the first place. She often gets outsmarted and caught uninformed, and she was really nice to Hillary when they had her on the show. Not a big loss IMO.

candance, when you say "no

candance, when you say "no big loss" I hope you mean as a conservative voice, not her vote. Because every vote counts. Do you think HRC would decline Hasselbeck's vote because it was bought with a baby note?

If she could be that easily swayed, how many more are? Isn't that what democrats do: buy votes with promises of free stuff, baby bonds, college money, etc?

lost vote but not lost voice

I was responding to article's assertion that her going left would mean no Republican voice on The View - I was saying we barely had a voice in the first place.

If this is true and her vote is that easily swayed, then there's something wrong with her.

I agree on both counts. I

I agree on both counts. I said in the first comment in this thread if she could be swayed that easily, she's pathetic.

This is the time FOX news

This is the time FOX news produce a program opposite "The View" time slot with Ingraham, Coulter and Malkin as panelists. Calling Mr. Murdock, again...Please...

Well, I'm just going to

Well, I'm just going to have to stop watching The View then.

(Note HEAVY sarcasm. I am a Conservative white male in my forties. I've never seen a second of The View, other than clips I've watched here or other places. Really!)

Sure that wasn't a joke?

Could it be that this was tongue in cheek humor to get a rise out of the gals..?  JMO

Got to be a joke...

I agree that it was simply to get a dig in on the ladies on "The View".

Could it be that this was

Could it be that this was tongue in cheek humor to get a rise out of the gals..?

I sure hope so. After I left my earlier comment expressing my disgust with her, I thought, you know, I didn't see it; maybe she was being sarcastic.

I certainly hope so. because even though I think Elisabeth could be a lot more assertive in their discussions, and put forth the covservative viewpoint more strongly, it hadn't occurred to me that she could by bought by HRC so cheaply.

She may have gotten a rise out of more people than she intended. ;-)

You can't always tell. I know I have posted things here that someone will respond to with "Surely you don't mean that!" Usually when I didn't use the <sarc> because to me it was so obviously sarcasm, I didn't think anyone would take it seriously.

Barbara probably edited

Barbara probably edited out the "P.S. Yeah, right!" at the end of the letter.

I don't think someone would be swayed from their values simply because of a (most likely canned) letter.

Way back when I was a young college student, a friend of mine was working as an intern in the office of a prominent U.S. Senator. For my birthday my friend gave me a letter from said senator extending greetings, and with the official autograph stamp at the bottom. Needless to say, the senator was completely unaware that he had sent me birthday greetings, nor would he have necessarily have approved of everything he allegedly said in the letter.

So I guess my question is, was this a personal letter from Hillary, or was it a shrewd move from a zealous member the Hillary campaign with access to a signature stamp?

I started a joke

I don't know what the truth is here, but I too am inclined to think she's joking until I have more information.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

That started the whole thread crying...

My View is that Elizabeth's comment was a joke.  A pretty funny one at that IMO.  Or was Elizabeth just another Hillary plant?  Just in case....er...that was a joke too.

Give us Chairman Ann

If they put Ann Coulter in Elizabeth's seat I'll tape the show every day just to watch those fat sows run for cover.

What ... No warm and fuzzy

What ... No warm and fuzzy haiku letter from Rosie?

Never understand dolts

I will never understand dolts. I remember Bush 41 went and had dinner at some black guys house in Carolina years ago and that was enough to change that person's vote for Bush.

In that, I can not fathom anyone with character even changing their vote just because some repulsive person like Hillary sent a note or someone famous like the President comes and has lunch at your house.
You can not believe a thing in your core if you do that.......frankly if Hillary ever sent me anything I would not be able to throw it away quick enough and wash my hands.

Well how committed was the

Well how committed was the man to a candidate before Bush 41's visit? And what issues did Bush touch upon that perhaps resonated with the man?

If he had a misconception about the president, it doesn't go against one's character to change a vote if it matches your character.

As for the Hillary letter, it just sounds like a big ol' "yeah, right" from Hasselbeck. I doubt the letter provided anything of issue-oriented substance that would cause Elisabeth to seriously consider voting for her.

LC, Totally agree with your

LC, Totally agree with your reasoning. If you expand it further that's what I never understood about the whole Iowa, and New Hampshire pace setting. They are 1/25 of the nation. Such a big deal is made out of winning these 2 smaller states because it will give a candidate momentum and cascade them into victories in other states. If voters stuck to their core beliefs and voted for the candidte they agree with on the issues, it wouldn't make a difference what these 2 states did.

About that note

Was the note the same one my sister got back in April after the birth of her baby?  She got a note from the first lady of IL, as did all mothers that give birth...it was a form letter...

Does NY do the same type of thing?

agree

If Hillary ever sent me anything, I would make a public spectacle of burning it in my parking lot. Then I'd stomp on the ashes as hard as I could and pray for rain to wash them into the gutter.

If Lizzie had any gumption she'd do something similar.

LOL!

LOL!

just plain old pandering

Not too many famous people are immune from pandering to an audience. No matter what she says is anyone really going to know for whom she voted? She can say Hillary all day long and still vote republican because we have secret ballots. That said the election is still a year away so let's see what happens. I don't thing there is going to be a "conversion".

Warm and Cuddley

Clinton's warmth really shows through with the letter, eh? Shows she's human and loves us all -- especially children.

Reminds me of Saddam -- patting the heads of children, just to show how human he was, too.

Now, I'm not comparing the dictatorial tendencies of Hillary with the dictator Saddam.

........Really.

.............I'm not!

What's new when it comes to The View....

With or without her....

Just my two cents.

BT, I was thinking the

BT,

I was thinking the same thing. Hasselback's is barely a conservative voice - it's more like a faint whisper...

This is pretty amazing

This is pretty amazing considering that Hillary doesn't even have the nomination and it is a year away from the general election. How stupid would someone have to be if they can be swayed from their conservative principles by an official letter from Hillary.

What a joke Hasselbeck must be or perhaps she is just coming off of being completely hormonal. Having given birth I can comment on the latter.

It was the hormones!

She will regret saying that very soon.  Those post-natal  hormones are nasty little buggars....
