Arianna Footing Bus Fare for 14,000 People - 250 Buses - to 'Restore Sanity' Rally

By Jack Coleman | October 18, 2010 | 13:25

A  A

Astroturfing when committed by conservatives -- as contemptible as it gets, according to liberals.

Astroturfing when committed by liberals -- problem, what problem?

In other words, do as we say, not as we do too.

Looks like Huffington Post publisher Arianna Huffington has gotten quite the response to her offer of free bus transportation from New York City to Jon Stewart's so-called Restore Sanity rally in Washington on Oct. 30.

Appearing on the weekly radio show "Both Sides Now" over the weekend, Huffington told host Mark Green and fellow guest Mary Matalin that "the Huffington Post is now at 14,000 people who've signed up for the buses."

"How many buses?" Green asked.

"We're at about 250 buses," Huffington answered. (link here for podcast of the show; quoted remarks start at 28:38)

The response should come as no surprise, seeing how few liberals can pass up a free ride. Indeed, the survival of their political philosophy depends on as many people as possible doing likewise across the board.

Huffington's largesse was estimated to cost at least $250,000 and came as a "shock" to her underlings at HuffPo, according to The Wrap, especially considering Huffington's stinginess in paying few of the bloggers who toil at her site. A working-class hero is something to be ...

Her willingness to pad attendance at the rally dovetails nicely with the pretense of an equally partisan Stewart assuming the role of would-be political arbiter in restoring "sanity" to political discourse. Vilifying liberals with the same frequency and gusto with which he goes after conservatives might be a more tangible step in that direction.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of carbon footprint is created from 250 fully loaded buses making 450-mile-long round trips?

How much is Whiffington giving these

drones for their votes?  Now that would be an interesting statistic.

Well, this shouldn't be a big deal.........after all, I've heard that the whole 'teabagger movement' is being funded by some stealth right-wing bigwigs and evil corporations........

Well, if it's good enough for

Submitted by killa37 on Mon, 10/18/2010 - 11:12pm.

Well, if it's good enough for you, it's good enough for me!! How else could these teabaggers be making the impact that they're making?? Oh.....sorry.............they're NOT having any impact........I read that also!!!

And while I'm at it...........i'd like to get a cohesive cross-section of all these people who feel the need to 'restore their sanity'........... personally, I haven't been feeling 'un-sane' at all, but I'm sure seing a lot of it in the last couple of years. Do you actually think that 'the usual suspects' (and their followers) are going to CHANGE??? Don't get your HOPES up!!!!

This should give

Submitted by buddyc on Mon, 10/18/2010 - 1:41pm.

This should give conservatives some idea how how THEIR money is used against them and why the media gives liberals a 5-10% lead in the vote.  Don't watch Ophra, don't support Huffington Post, don't go to Spielberg/Geffen/Katzenberg/Howard/Etc/Etc movies.  Don't give them money.

It will take hard work to beat these people at the polls.  They will have a ton of people there no matter what the cost.

Gosh votes are getting

Submitted by ricklail on Mon, 10/18/2010 - 1:56pm.

Gosh votes are getting costly. I can remember when you could buy a vote for a batwing. (That is a 1/2 pint of liquor. They had to go to South Carolina to get them. Were not sold in NC in those days.)

The Democrats are forcing School kids to vote in Cincy...

Nothing like forcing all the kids "of age" to vote by bribing them with ice cream. Sample ballot was "democratic" btw...

More to come, sponsored by liberal teachers all over America.

So what's the point of this

Submitted by Van Halen on Mon, 10/18/2010 - 2:09pm.

So what's the point of this rally again? Don't Democrats control everything? Shouldn't there be no problems? Why the need for sanity?

Exactly.

Submitted by Tenebrous on Mon, 10/18/2010 - 11:21pm.

I don't get it. If the right is insane, and the right won't be attending, then whose sanity is being restored, exactly? And how sane is it to be preaching anti-American claptrap in America? Liberals have an awful hard time with common sense.

Better use of her money*

Submitted by cajun2 on Mon, 10/18/2010 - 5:08pm.

In a declining economy and rising unemployment, you would think this "compassionate" liberal would spend this money hiring workers instead of pushing the agenda that caused the problems. Just think how many Bretners you could hire.

Restoring sanity

Submitted by nkviking75 on Tue, 10/19/2010 - 12:18am.

The only way this event could restore sanity is if someone would drop a big bomb on these nutjobs while they are all in one place.

don't leave a carbon footprint now, do they? Seems like a mighty high price to pay for "sanity". Why didn't she just give them all a free appointment to their locak shrink?
