Government PSA Hijacks Disney to Promote First Lady Initiative
When will the government stop wasting taxpayer dollars? In a new public service announcement, Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative twists Disney’s classic "Beauty and the Beast" into an animated production telling parents how to have healthy children.
Perhaps the choice of a Disney cartoon is appropriate, since the liberal nanny-state insists on treating Americans as children. The United States Department of Agriculture, along with the Ad Council and the “Let’s Move” initiative managed to waste money telling parents that children should eat vegetables and play outside.
(Video Below)
“Eat dinner together, add veggies to each meal, save treats for special occasions, and be sure to get up and play an hour each day. Help your kids make all of their dreams come true!”
Liberals confused by opposition to the "Let’s Move" initiative probably won’t understand what a complete waste of money this is either. But if the new GOP-led House is looking for wasteful spending to cut, it could start with cute but frivolous advertising.

What's this lastest whit of wisdom from (no doubt) some multi-billion-dollar, longitudinal nutritional and physical-wellbeing study....????
Eat your veggies and get your lazy tushie outside to play?
Boy, I sure am glad that someone, somewhere is making sure our Government-run-public-school-educated unwashed masses are now enlightented as to their govnment-mandated parental responsibilities. It's about time!
Who knows what trans-generational tragedies might have transpired if our Benevolent Masters had not intervened in such a timely manner?
Oh thank you, thank you!!! ...especially for the marginally-anorexic female role model being thrust upon our pre-pubescent, impressionable girls. I'm sure they'll be appropriately imprinted with this "ideal" to which they will devote their lives (and their stomach contents).
Remember, it's for the greater good, Winston! For the greater good of prols everywhere!
All hail the Nannies (ninnies?) of the State, whose wisdom is so selflessly given (shoved down our throats?) from on high.
*barf!*

It’s telling that this PSA is aimed at adults rather than children. Telling them to do the things that their mothers should have told them to do but I think it’s a mischaracterization to say Disney was hijacked. They were more likely an eager participant.I agree that Disney is an

There is no way this was done without it.

Pocahontas or Sleepy Beauty would have been better choices.
But maybe I'm just super-sensitive what with all the recent Incestmo posts.

Classic!!
If the First Lady is truly concerned about obesity, especially in the inner cities where it is rampant, perhaps the government should set up the WIC and SNAP cards to only be available to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy foods, and not Doritos and Pepsi.
Since junk food is much cheaper, lower income and welfare recipients tend to eat more, therefore they become overweight. Until I see Uncle Sam attack this issue at that level, Michelle can keep her nose out of my fridge.

The more highly processed a food is, the more expensive it is. You can buy about 5 pounds of potatoes for the same price as a bag of chips.

In the WIC program, Women and children (one to five years of age) participating in WIC receive food vouchers for milk, cheese, eggs, cereals high in iron, peanut butter or dried beans or peas, and fruit or vegetable juices high in vitamin C.
The vouchers can't be used for anything else. You see tags on the shelves in grocery stores under "WIC -eligible" items.
Regarding SNAP, the problem is not with eating junk food, it is in eating processed foods, such as prepared breaded "fried" chicken tenders and frozen dinners, instead of preparing one's one meals, which can be done a lot more cheaply. For instance, a pound of frozen french fries sells for nearly the price of a 5-lb. bag of potatoes. Those potatoes could also be used for baked and mashed potatoes. Ditto rice. For the price of a box of Rice-a-roni, you could probably buy a couple of pounds of rice and season it yourself.
It's a matter of education. I would prefer it if every one on food stamps had to attend a course to learn how to prepare nutritious, low-cost meals.
Agree on the majority of your points

"Processed' food in terms of calories is far worse than their raw counterparts. In fact, in this neck of the woods a bag of french fries costs twice as much as a 5 lb. bag of potatoes. That and a Ronco-matic potato slicer can keep you in french fries for a long time (and baking them as opposed to frying is so much healthier).

Junk food is cheaper.

Even in Australia, junk food is a lot cheaper. As a child my mother would pile the vegatables on our plates. Not just because she wanted us to be healthy, but because they were also cheap.

Back when we were kids our parents didn't need advice from a friggin Disney character.
They knew exactly what to say and do to make us grow up to become big, strong, responsible citizens.
Every day mom lovingly told us to eat shit and die, or go outside and play in traffic,...... we all turned out just fine........or as well as could be expected anyway.

Like Ralphie's mom? Over the years I got to be quite a connoisseur of soap. My personal preference was for Lux, but I found Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor - heady, but with just a touch of mellow smoothness. Life Buoy, on the other hand...
