An interesting story on Fox News tells of a Boston man who was robbed while visiting Phoenix.
First, we must remember that Boston, being part of the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, does not allow people to carry concealed firearms for personal protection. Therefore, this man was not armed, unlike concealed carry licensees from the 40 shall-issue states.1 So this is partly a story about self-defense denied, and the consequences thereof. One can also note that the leaders of the State of Massachusetts, who believe that regular, law-abiding folk should not carry concealed firearms, will not endure any personal inconvenience or liability for this unfortunate incident.
More to the point is the AP-authored story on Fox News. It describes how the man was accosted, taken back to his hotel room at gunpoint (by criminals who somehow didn’t realize that they are not supposed to carry concealed firearms), tied up and robbed. He was told to stay in the bathtub where they dumped him, which he did until the maid discovered him 24 hours later.
Unfortunately, his wrists were tied so tight that he lost his left hand. As the AP wunderkind wrote:
Northrup’s [the victim’s] bindings were so tight, it caught of the circulation to his hands, police said.2 [Emphasis added]
Also note that “bindings” is plural, requiring the corresponding pronoun “they” rather than “it”. But let’s not quibble too much over somebody who uses a preposition instead of an adverb to modify a verb, assuming they would have used “cut” had they known grammar.
Do they still require grammar skills in journalism school? Does anybody know if the Associated Press has any employment criteria left?

Surprising that such attacks
August 10, 2007 - 12:10 ET by BDSurprising that such attacks here in Cochise county are unheard of.....
Just goes to show..
August 10, 2007 - 12:14 ET by Maverick313Not only does the AP not have proper grammar, punctuation, nor spelling skills, they also do not possess proper honesty skills either. And people still eat up what they produce as truth and actuality. Is it just me or has the American populace lost a few more IQ points? Well... the ones that listen to the AP and MSM drivel.
If you don't stand behind our troops; please feel free to stand in front of them!

August 10, 2007 - 12:27 ET by MightyMouthIn addition to hater's poor grammar skills, something else "smells funny" with this story:
Who is going to stay tied up for 24 hours, helpless, in a bath tub? I mean really, wouldn't you crawl out and start banging on the door or wall or something? Something is missing here... which is pretty much the AP's SOP on feeding CRAP to the public. The difference is, now they feed us crap with error ridden copy.

This is not an isolated example of AP's work
August 10, 2007 - 15:11 ET by nkviking75You ought to see the copy from the AP Des Moines bureau on their broadcast wires over the weekend. Any time I've been foolish enough to read it cold on the air, there's a good chance I'll get burned by bad grammar, misspellings, or incoherent writing. And this is a state whose students consistently place high on standardized tests.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

August 10, 2007 - 18:06 ET by zfOf course they don't require proper grammer at AP, they probably consider proper grammer a tool of the "establishment" or something. <g>

The AP writer or proofreader also incorrectly used the word "of" in the phrase. I imagine they meant to use "off". Then again, maybe not.

I too noticed that but was too caught up in the fact someone was so stupid to stay in the tub that long....
Something doesn't sound right about the whole danged thing....
LOL!
(Of course unless that person was a looney leftist)
I agree. Who would stay
August 10, 2007 - 20:13 ET by stratmanI agree.
Who would stay in a tub for 24 hours, especially with the pain from the bindings?
I also thought 24 hours sounded way too long, but, the story said this happened on a Saturday night and long term motels/hotels like he was staying in frequently do not have maid service on Sundays to keep costs down.
It's still a little fishy to me. (Drug or prostitution deal gone bad?)
