Clift Slapped Down By Tim Carney: Obama Will Talk to Eva Longoria but Not Arizona Gov. Brewer
On this weekend's McLaughlin Group Newsweek's Eleanor Clift used the occasion of Barack Obama's immigration speech to opine that Hispanics "know which side, which party is on their side" and implied it's not the GOP as she declared Republican Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona has "negative attitudes" towards them. During a discussion about Obama's immigration speech last week Clift even bragged: "This president has done far more in terms of security crackdown than George W. Bush did."
This was all too much for the Washington Examiner's Tim Carney to bear as he wittily retorted that instead of having an open dialogue with the governor of a major border state like Brewer, the President chose to talk about the vital issue with Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, as seen in the following May 15 exchange:
ELEANOR CLIFT, NEWSWEEK: This president has done far more in terms of security crackdown than George W. Bush did.
RICH LOWRY, NATIONAL REVIEW: That's not true.
CLIFT: It is true and we can compare statistics later.
LOWRY: It's barely more, just barely more deportations.
CLIFT: You used up your time. Rich, you've used up your time. My turn. And I think he does have a good record to the point where he has liberals complaining that he's cracked down too much. He got two-thirds of the Hispanic vote in 2008. He may get it up to four-fifths because he's the most prominent official on the Democratic side talking pro-comprehensive immigration. And you have Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona, the most prominent Republican official on the other side, sending out very negative attitudes when it comes to Hispanics. So I think, sure, there's a political benefit here for the President. But if he could get comprehensive immigration reform tomorrow, along the lines that you outline, he would love it. He can't get it because Republicans are opposing him. And so it's a clear political divide and I think Hispanics know which side, which party is on their side.
JOHN MCLAUGHLIN: Tim, what do you think of that?
TIM CARNEY, WASHINGTON EXAMINER: I don't think he's trying to work at all with Republicans. He didn't invite Jan Brewer. He didn't invite Texas Governor Rick Perry to the White House to talk about immigration.
MCLAUGHLIN: Who's Jan, who's Jan?
CARNEY: Jan Brewer - the governor of Arizona. And to show his seriousness on this, who did he invite to talk about immigration at the White House? Rosario Dawson and Eva Longoria. He brought in actresses. He's not serious about this. He wants to set up a debate and induce Republicans into arguing against immigration, then call them racists and push himself up to 40 percent of the Hispanic vote. It's, it's pure, cynical politicking. He has no interest in real solutions.

Carney point demolished Clift's argument

Granted, she's never been more than PowerPoint-deep on any subject, and parrots the talking points faxed to her by the White House.
But Carney nailed it. Instead of working with Arizona and other border states to fight the invasion it is suffering under, Obama stiffs the Governor and talks to actresses. Worse, he publicly ridicules Arizona's call for more Federal support.
Hope and change, anyone?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but like most other things Obama inherited (both good and bad) be it Bush's signed agreement with Iraq to pull the troops out, Bush's plan for the Afghanistan surge, that Obama adopted (after wrangling with it for a year), it was Bush's effort to secure the border and up deportations - which was really just coming on-line as Obama took over. Fortunately, Obama hasn't yet managed to dismantle the entire effort - yet.
And secondly, Obama is on the side - in the issue of Immigration issues - of a relative small minority (much of it a radical minority), not the majority of the country.
Polls have long illustrated that most people are more in line with the views of Tom Tancredo, than Obama - and for that matter, Bush or McCain. This was rather well evidenced in last year's national survey by the [liberal] Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. The results:
Also, the poll actually spelled out the two most contentious measures in the AZ Law, asking respondents if they approved of them:
Does anyone recall anyone in the national media challenging the Obama administration, Democrats, or various boycotting city councils around the country, on how in the world they could proceed with their vile attacks on Arizona, when the 70%, a super majority, of the people supported what Arizona was up to?
Folks, the Republicans are the populists here. They have the strong support of the voters - would someone tell them, please. They do not have to compromise with Obama and the Democrats here, in any shape or form.
Last summer, a CA Field Poll found that 58% of Californians would support an Arizona like bill here in CA. Needless to say, the media kept that off the table for release. An unknowing public is the best friend the liberal left has. In CA, mind you. Needless to say, that is not a number that will be repeated in the media, out here either.
It'd be nice if the MSM would challenge the President here, on why he's ignoring the strong majority of the land.
And the national media is pounding on the Republicans for not endorsing Obama's so-called immigration reform effort?
Media bias has no limit.

Gee, it seems to me a few

Gee, it seems to me a few years ago, we were all picking on hispanics unfairly because, according to the left, " illegals come in many stripes, from Ireland to Africa to Asia". Now, when it's politically beneficial to them, the terms 'Hispanic' and 'immigrant' (lacking the illegal adjective, of course) travel hand-in-hand. And since illegals aren't technically allowed to vote, am I to assume that American citizens of hispanic descendant are complicit and/or sympathetic to law-breakers just because they share a common heritage? I would take that as an insult if I were them. Do Italians support the mob? Do Irish-Americans support the terrorists of the IRA? Do whites support the KKK?
Politicians and the matter of Group over Individual
Submitted by Galvanic on Tue, 05/17/2011 - 9:07am.
While politicians count on the votes of individuals, they are accustomed to appealing to groups for support. This mass-market Industrial Age approach to 'selling' their promises rests on general assumptions about the wants, needs, and special interests of groups. Assigning individuals to groups can get tricky.
For example, Tiger Woods is generally acknowledged as the best black golfer in the world. But does anyone know who the best Asian golfer is? It's Tiger Woods. To suit their purposes, the media and special interest groups have labeled Woods as an African-American golfer and ignored his Asian ancestry; Woods does not identify himself as black or Asian.
So it goes with politicians and their assumptions about individuals of Hispanic origin. And their ultimate objective is to woo their votes, so they pander to them with promises of "immigration reform," which is PC speak for amnesty. They realize that some Hispanic Americans prefer enforcement of current immigration laws vice reform, but it is considered that their numbers are too small to matter. So much for individuals.
And ultimately, the party that believes it has the vote of the group will grant them citizenship to get them to the polls.

Eva Laonoria is such a good shot that you do not want to cross her She is a Texas girl who I understand is the only public figure woman who shoots better than Palin. The Secret Service is not set up to protect the Presidents against snipers like her. Treating her in civil maner is important.

Race-bating progressive hack. Saying things like "they know which party is on their side" and "Governor Jan Brewer..sending out very negative attitudes about Hispanics" is RACE-BAITING. Just like Obama was doing when he was whining that 'those mean old racist Republicans won't let me give you amnesty and fast-track citizenship'. Race-baiting. You know, that thing they're always accusing conservatives of? Hypocrites.
Thank you for smacking them down, Mr. Carney.
Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.
